Walking is the perfect way of moving if you want to see into the life of things. It is the one way of freedom. If you go to a place on anything but your own feet you are taken there too fast, and miss a thousand delicate joys that were waiting for you by the wayside. Elizabeth von Arnim

Walking, weeding and supper out

✿     ✿     ✿     ✿
I wore long sleeves walking this morning because it was only 52 degrees.  It was sunny though and what a beautiful morning for walking.  I walked the Farm Loop.

Passing by the dairy farm I noticed that there were two goats standing on the front porch of the house and I zoomed in to get this picture.
Saw a bunch of rabbits, a groundhog, and a bluejay.  Didn't see it but smelled a skunk. I noticed a bird that was a very bright red and it had black wings.  Never saw one before and thought it might be a Scarlet tanager.  Sure enough I looked it up when I got home and that was it.  Wish I'd been able to get a picture.  What a beautiful bird.

Once I got back to town I took a loop around there and the ball park and then headed home.

Took another picture of the daisies down at the end of my driveway.  They are in full bloom now.
Walked 6.4  miles.

It warmed up and we had a beautiful sunny day in the high 70's.  Got three loads of laundry hung up on the line.

Then back to more weeding.  Been working on this garden in the front across from the daisies.  I went all around the sides with a shovel to give it an edge and then started the weeding.
Took a break and sat on my swing for a while and drank a bottle of water.  While sitting there I took a couple of pictures of the sky with big puffy white clouds.
Finished the weeding and though you can't see it from the picture I made a curvy path all through the garden.  My plan is to put crushed rocks (which I'll crush with our rock crusher) on the paths and to plant a few more plants.  Will post a picture when finished.
A new restaurant opened up in McHenry called the Green Turtle and we went there for supper tonight.  I had a delicious salad. Mixed greens, apple slices, dried cranberries, pecans, and pieces of blue cheese.  Used the blue cheese dressing very sparingly.
Now I look forward to some reading time and then some ice cream while watching a little television.
It's been a good day.

A happy day to you.

Now you have me wondering if you use the same method I do for salad dressing...I just dip the fork in the dressing before taking a bite. It never takes more than a 1/4 of the little container.

Your day sounds very like mine here...it was a corker wasn't it?! Your flower garden is going to be so nice.

The daisy plants look so beautiful. My daisy plants are just about finished blooming. I wish they would bloom all summer. Would you e-mail me your mother's address. I would like to send her a birthday card. Thanks Karen.

Hi Karen, we are having cooler mornings for walking but by lunchtime we are quite hot.
Love the goats up on the porch! Your gardens look lovely. Great idea to put a crushed stone pathway through it. You have been having lovely skies your way too! Your salad looks delicious. Hope you enjoyed your ice cream!

Those daisies are gorgeous....and I can't wait to see what you do with the garden path. It looks great already. Will you mulch the rest of it? We've got plans for a few spots in our yard this fall and I love to get ideas from others. LOVE all your pictures. The puffy clouds are so pretty.

Thank you. The white clouds seem to make the sky looked a brighter blue.

Cool mornings are great for walking. : ) The goats made me smile standing up there. I'm hoping for an English garden look. I certainly did enjoy my ice cream.

Once in a while a car will stop and look at the daisies. I'm thankful that the former owners planted them. : )

I'm not crazy about mulch and would rather just keep the soil loose. Every time I use mulch I get mushrooms growing in it. I like that the daisies bloom all summer.

We ate at Green Turtle a couple times when visiting family in northern VA. There's one in the mall not too far from us, but we've not been there yet. Goats are most unusual! Now I know why I was never allowed to have one "for a pet." Beautiful sky and landscape.

It is pretty bad and there is no mistaking that it is a skunk!!
