Walking is the perfect way of moving if you want to see into the life of things. It is the one way of freedom. If you go to a place on anything but your own feet you are taken there too fast, and miss a thousand delicate joys that were waiting for you by the wayside. Elizabeth von Arnim

Fences, birds, hay and a recipe

Good Fences
This snowy fence picture was taken this past Sunday morning on my walk.
I'm linking up with Good Fences this week. Check out other fences HERE.

A cloudy morning today for my walk but it was a warm 55 degrees.  Hard to believe I took the snowy picture above just a few days ago.

My walk today took me down toward Happy Trials and then back to town, around the cemeteries and the ball park loop.  Not as many people about as yesterday.

Walking up to one of the cemeteries I met Farmer Marvin driving by with a rolled hay bale on his tractor bringing the hay to Star and the other horses.  I snapped a quick picture.  These things are HUGE when you are right  next to them!!
Walking around the little town pond I was finally able to get a picture of one of the red winged black birds.  Picture not very good because I had to zoom in quite a bit.  Times like these I wish I had a good camera.
Down around the ball park loop I got a picture of this Robin on the fence.
I've seen quite a few Robins so far this year
but this is the first one that was still long enough so I could get a picture.
As usual I enjoyed my walk and walked 6.2 miles.
Found a penny too. : )

Home in the morning and then after lunch we went up to Happy Trails.  Didn't work on the cabin though.  We have a little stream that is full of leaves and debris and I worked on clearing a small part of it out so we could see the water running.  Still have a long way to go.  Ken was on the tractor moving some huge rocks around and continuing working on the stone wall.  It was cloudy with just a few peeks of sun but a warm day and we enjoyed our time up there.

I cooked our supper tonight in a Reynolds plastic oven bag.  Has anyone used them before?
I've made this many times over the years but haven't in a long time.  It's called Unflappable Chicken.  Here's the recipe.

The recipe calls for a 14 x 20 bag but I didn't have that size so used the next bigger size.
2 Tablespoons flour
1/3 Cup water
1/2 Teaspoon EACH Basil, thyme, and salt
1 med onion
2 potatoes
4 carrots
1 red pepper
Chicken pieces - seasoned with paprika
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Shake flour in bag, place in baking pan.
Add water, basil, thyme and salt to bag.
Squeeze bag to blend ingredients.
Cut onion and potatoes into wedges.
Slice carrots and pepper into cubes.
Add vegetables to bag.  Turn to coat.
Arrange in even layer.
Place chicken in bag and close with tie.
Make 6, 1/2 slits in top of bag.
Bake 50 - 55 minutes.
Here it is on my plate and ready to eat.
Nothing fancy but it was good, easy to make, and a very easy clean up.  : )

Looking forward to starting the next Louise Penny book later.
I wish you a happy day.

My Three Happy Things Today
  1.  Getting the bird pictures
  2. Being up at Happy Trails
  3. A nice cold glass of milk

Comment Replies:
Kerri -  I hadn't planned on that idea with the window but it is a good one.  Thanks,  I'll have to get another window and try it.
Lisa -  You have another great idea for the window.Thanks.

Melanie - the color of my car is Torch Red.  The sun may have washed out the color a bit.  Someone once told me that they liked to watch me fold myself into the seat. : )  If you lived near me I'd take you for a ride.

Thanks for the recipe! I am going to make this tomorrow to take to a friend who just had surgery. Her family loves chicken and this will be perfect! Have a great day!

it's hard to get good shots of animals without one of those super-cameras. All mine usually are blurry

This is just a great post...I used to use those bags for hams or turkeys, and think I have used one for a pot roast. That chicken looks yummy!

Nice picture of the Redwing and the Robin. I heard both this morning, but haven't seen one yet.

Great to find your blog through Good Fences linkup! I enjoyed seeing the Robin on the fence as they are so different from ours in the UK.
Thanks for the chicken recipe too! That is my kind of cooking!
Glad to follow & hope to see you at

Good morning, love the reddwing and the robin on the fence. We have used the bag for turkeys and chickens. It is easy to clean up! Wonderful photos and thanks for sharing the recipe! Happy Friday, enjoy your weekend!

That is quite a contrast in your fences. While both pretty, I think the one with the robin on it looks more appealing at this time of year.
I have never cooked in one of those bags before. It does look like a great way to go to make clean up a breeze. I like the looks of that chicken dish. I imagine the chicken was nice and moist.
Have a wonderful weekend, Karen.

Yes, I use the baking bags. Love them. Flavors combine, meat is moist and clean-up is easy.

Your dinner looks delicious :)
I was a little worried that you had more snow for a moment!!
Your robins and blackbirds are very different to the ones we have here in the UK. It's lovely to see your photos.
Have a wonderful weekend :)

You just reminded me of the day I saw my first rolled hay bale on a road trip to Canada. :) I love the snow shot and the birds, very pretty!

Do you allow pinning? I really want to pin this recipe once I can access the iPad...it's being used just now. So much easier to pin from there with the app than on the laptop. So glad that I checked back further in your posts as I had missed this. I do happen to have some of those bags and these days especially I am eager for anything that is easy clean up.
