Walking is the perfect way of moving if you want to see into the life of things. It is the one way of freedom. If you go to a place on anything but your own feet you are taken there too fast, and miss a thousand delicate joys that were waiting for you by the wayside. Elizabeth von Arnim

Home all day

☁     ☁     ☁     ☁
I was surprised when I woke up this morning to see a very light dusting of snow on the ground, like someone sprinkled confectioners sugar over the lawn.  It was 33 degrees and there were still a few lingering flurries.  There were a few icy patches along the road but most places it was just wet.

I walked around the Farm Loop.  It was a bit windy around there in the open spaces.
For a brief moment it looked like the sun was going to come up but the color soon went away and it stayed cloudy.
I saw a few ducks out one of the farm ponds but as soon as they saw me they took off flying so I couldn't get a picture.
Didn't see anyone else out walking or running.  Stopped to say hi to a woman who was scraping the snow and ice off her car who lives a few houses away from me.  Warned her about icy patches.

Walked 5.6 miles.

There were a couple of bananas sitting on the counter turning a dark brown so I turned them into Banana Bars.  I used to make banana bread with brown bananas but I like the bars a lot better.
Banana Bars
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup mashed ripe bananas (2 med)
  • 1/3 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon (I put in a heaping one)
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  1. Heat oven 350 degrees.  Grease 13 x 9 baking pan.
  2. In large bowl, mix sugar, bananas, oil and eggs with spoon.
  3. Stir in rest of ingredients.
  4. Bake 25 to 30 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. (I only had to bake it for 23 minutes.
  5. Cool completely
Cream Cheese Frosting
  • 1 pkg cream cheese, softened (3 oz)
  • 1/3 cup butter or margarine, softened
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  1. In medium bowl mix first three ingredients with electric mixer on med speed until blended.
  2. Gradually beat in powdered sugar until smooth and spreadable.
  3. Spread cooled bars with frosting.  Store covered in refrigerator.
As I was typing up the recipe I realized that I had used a 6 oz pkg of cream cheese instead of the 3 oz pkg that it calls for.  Still tasted good. : )

Some of you may know that I write to prisoners through my church.  Since this is December, this month I'm sending them all Christmas cards so I got started writing them out this afternoon.  I put a tract in them too.  I did this last year too and got a few cards from them as well. : )

Read some this afternoon - the latest book by Sue Grafton.  She is up to the letter X.  I guess she couldn't come up with a title starting with an X so she just named it X. I'm about half way through it.  So far it is good but nothing special, but I've read them all so far and will read the last two also. I liked the first few best.

Got some knitting time in too this afternoon.  I didn't do any of the housework I had planned on doing, but that's how it goes some days. : )

Hope your day has been a happy one.
happyone : )
Man is fond of counting his troubles,
but he does not count his joys.
If he counted them up as he ought to,
he would see that every lot has enough
happiness provided for it.

I think just about anything with cream cheese frosting is a winner. So glad you shared your recipe today. Although I do like banana bread, this looks like a delicious alternative.
Your day sounds nice and relaxing and the first dusting of snow is so pretty.

Great pictures as always. It's nice that you share your walk.
I am hungry for something sweet with frosting now. Wonder why?

Yum! I'd add more cinnamon, too! Also, the more cream cheese, the better.:-) Great project to send cards to prisoners.

You be safe out there when there's ice. Just one patch can get you into trouble! Those banana bars looks yummy. I just bought some bananas yesterday so if they get too brown, I'll have to try out your recipe :) Thanks for sharing! :)

Your banana bars sound so good! I have a banana cake that I make occasionally and it looks similar. I do have a banana on the counter needing some attention so maybe I'll make a half recipe of your bars! Have a blessed day.

The joys and troubles one is true. People often focus on the negative than the positive

Hi Karen, I love your snowy photos. Very pretty. Your banana bars sound delicious.
I've never read any of Sue Graftons books but my sister loves them.
Have a nice weekend.

Your new camera is doing a great job. Of course it's the eye behind the lens that really matters and you have an excellent eye.

Those Banana Bars look and sound delicious. I'd have to hide bananas to ever have any for baking. We have yet to have a dusting of snow. I'm fine with it! Christmas Eve is coming.
