Walking is the perfect way of moving if you want to see into the life of things. It is the one way of freedom. If you go to a place on anything but your own feet you are taken there too fast, and miss a thousand delicate joys that were waiting for you by the wayside. Elizabeth von Arnim

No pictures today

It felt strange this morning to be out walking without my camera and wouldn't you know it, everywhere there were pictures to be taken. : )

It was 35 degrees and dark at 7:00 this morning.  I watched a beautiful sunrise.  It was one of those mornings when the sky was peppered with those white little clouds that look like cotton balls and the whole sky was a bright pink and blue.

I walked around town and the two cemeteries and the ball park loop.  No one else was up and about this early Saturday morning.

The town pond was as smooth as glass, the birds were all once again sitting on the cattails and I could see the reflection of the white church steeple on the water.

Walked 5.5 miles.
I thought I was going to have a very low coin month this September because as of this morning I had only found 4 pennies, but this evening I found a few more coins in a parking lot- a dime, a nickel, and a penny.  Then in another parking lot I found 2 one dollar bills.  I don't save the paper money in my banks so I don't count that.  So this months coins add up to 20 cents.  Still not a very good month but better than 4. : )
☀     ☀     ☀     ☁
Last evening was a good one for the Fingerprint ministry.  A great turn out of people working and we put together 5,000 books of Romans.  This time they were in Spanish and they will be going to Guatemala.  Ken and I worked on the staple machines along with 6 other people.  We worked from 5:00 - 9:00.  Even the kids were hard at work bringing the books over to the staplers as other people put the books together.

This morning right after breakfast we went to church again to continue the work from last night.  Not as many people as last night but still a good group.  Ken was again on the stapler machine but I mostly folded covers this time with three others.  We had a good time talking while working.  Work today was from 9:00 to 12:00 but Ken and I were just there from 10:00 - 12:00.  Another 3,000 copies were put together for a grand total of 8,000.  : )

Not a big fan of Halloween so we decided to go to Morgantown this evening for dinner at Outback.  The last two years we had over 200 kids come to the door.

My camera couldn't be fixed so after dinner while we were in Morgantown we went to Best Buy and Walmart to check out the cameras and I ended up getting one at Walmart where it was cheapest.  I got just another point and shoot one, a Samsun WB50F.  It is a tad smaller than my other one and will be easy to slip into my pocket or pocketbook.
It is getting charged now as I type this.
So that's been my day.
I'm off to enjoy my ice cream now. : )

Hope your day was a happy one.

Adam - Buckwheat cakes are a bit like pancakes, but they are made with buckwheat flour, yeast and brown sugar.  I ate them with syrup but others poured bacon gravy over them.
Nellie - My old camera ran on two double A rechargeable batteries and I had to change them about once a week.  My new camera has a little square battery which stays in the camera and is charged by plugging into an outlet.  I like how the new one works better. : )

The last picture

Picture is a bit blurry, but I liked seeing all the birds on the cattails.
Had to zoom in.
☁     ☁     ☁     ☁
Started walking at 6:50 and it was 38 degrees outside and it was a cloudy morning.  Walked all over town including both cemeteries and the ball park loop.

After a windy day sometimes the flowers or flags that people put out by the graves get blown down or tangled and like today I untangle the flags and put the flowers back as I walk around.

A woman was out pushing a stroller and stopped and asked me if the road we were walking on went through to the cemetery.  She said she sees me walking all over the place and knew I would know. : )  Hard to believe she didn't know, there are not that many streets in town!!

Looks like a snow fence loaded up on the trailer.  Someone's getting ready for the snow.
Walked 5.5 miles.
☁     ☁     ☁     ☁
Had a fun time last night and we were served breakfast for dinner.  : )  It was the first time I've ever had Buckwheat Cakes and I thought they were good.
Dessert was homemade apple pie with vanilla ice cream.

I wrapped up the Bible cover I bought for a friend and walked on over to the post office to mail it.  On the way back I stopped in at Sherry's and made an appointment to get my hair done.  She is going to layer it and put streaks in it to help me through the growing out phase of my gray hair.

I think my camera has taken its last picture. : (  I hit the button to turn it off which closes the lens. The lens went in but made a strange noise and now the camera won't turn on.  Maybe Ken can fix it.  If not, a new camera is in my future and I hope it is in the near future!

We are going to church later for the Fingerprint ministry.  It from 5:00 to whenever. Ken and I will be working on the staple machines again.

Hope your day has been a happy one.

Thursday

☂     ☂     ☁
Left on my walk this morning at 7:30.  It was 50 degrees and raining once again.  Still a bit windy but nothing like yesterday.  I walked around town, down passed the HT turnoff, then back to town and around town some more.  Took a loop around one of the cemeteries and the ball park loop.

Didn't see anyone else out.  Just waved to the usual people in cars, trucks, and buses.

It rained for about the first 2 miles, then it stopped and the clouds started to break up.  Amazing to watch the wind blow the clouds racing across the sky.  Then the sun appeared.  : )
Pretty much all the leaves have blown down off the trees now but the oak trees are still holding on to them.

Especially nice to be walking this morning after missing yesterday.
Walked 5.5 miles.
☀     ☀     ☀     ☀
In the morning I got some things done around the house.  Nothing big just a bunch of little things that needed doing.

Even found some time to just sit and read.  I finished the book for my book club next month, The Red Garden by Alice Hoffman.  It was good but I thought it was a bit disjointed and seemed more like a book of short stories.  It says this on the cover.  "Hoffman offers a transforming glimpse of small-town America, presenting us with some three hundred years of passion, dark secrets, loyalty and redemption in a web of tales where characters lives are intertwined by fate and by their own actions."

We are going out in a little while to a friends house where we will meet up with a couple more couples for another game night of Mexican Train.  We will have supper there and then play the game.  Should be another fun night. : )

Hope your day has been a happy one.

No Walk

This fall picture is from a few years ago.
I used to walk around this lake where I used to live.
☂     ☂     ☂     ☂
The reason I posted a picture from a few years ago is because I didn't take any today.  I woke up this morning at 6:30 and the wind was howling and it was raining hard and of course it was dark.  It doesn't happen often but I just did not feel like getting up, so I turned over and went back to sleep.  Never did walk this morning.

Since it was such a yucky day we decided to go to La Vale and do some shopping.  Went in a few stores and I got a few goodies.  New hiking boots, cookbook with lots of delicious recipes which I'm sure I'll be sharing, cupcake tins, and the Bible cover is for a friend.  Everything on sale too with some very good bargains.  : )
We also did some food shopping in Martins and walking in the parking lot I found 2 pennies.

It's time to think about supper and then it's off to church this evening.

Later I'll be having some chocolate chip ice cream which we picked up at Martins.

Hope your day has been a happy one and you smiled often.

Excellent Report

☁     ☁     ☁     ☁
Left the house this morning on my walk at 7:00 and sunrise wasn't until 7:40 and it was 40 degrees.  Didn't see the sun rise today, nothing but clouds in the sky.

Walked first to the post office and then walked down the main road past the HT turnoff and then back to town.  Walked all around town, one of the cemeteries and the ball park loop where once again I saw the runner.

I watched a little chick-a-dee fly from tree to tree just ahead of me for about a half a block.  They are such cute little birds.

Walked 5.3 miles.
☁     ☁     ☁     ☁
Ken requested French toast this morning for breakfast so I made some.  Ken, like most people I know put syrup on it but I like to sprinkle confectioners sugar on my French toast.

10:50 I walked on over to the dentist with the cookies I baked yesterday.  Ken and I both had appointments but I always go first to get it over with!!  My cleaning went GREAT.  No cavities, gums looking great and hardly any tarter buildup.  : )  I was in and out in 20 minutes.  All those brushings and daily flossings AND using the water pic are sure worth the little extra effort.  It is always such a great feeling walking OUT of the dentist office!  : )
Ken had a great report too. : )

Did a little cleaning this afternoon and then read.  Made some pizza dough and as usual Ken made the actual pizza which we had for supper.  We are a good team. : )  It was delicious as usual too.

I started the next scarf the other day and I'll do a little knitting on that this evening.  Looking forward to my ice cream.  : )

Hope your day has been a happy one and you smiled often.

Bowling Monday

☀     ☀     ☀     ☀
Left the house this morning on my walk at 7:10 and it was 31 degrees.  When the sun came over the mountain there were no clouds to block those nice warm rays.  : )

Walked around town this morning and a little way up Sale Barn road to see the cows but they weren't anywhere to be seen.  But I did see the horses down by the Drane house.  I've started calling one Star because of the white star on his head.  He came over by the fence so I could pet him.  The other horse there has a star too but also has a white foot.  The three other horses are now on the other side of the barn in a field.

Walked the two cemeteries and the loop by the ball park and the runner is still running his 5 loops around it.

Walked 5.4 miles.
Found a penny. : )
☀     ☀     ☀     ☀
Right after breakfast I baked another batch of chocolate chip cookies.  We have our 6 month dentist checkup tomorrow and wanted to have some cookies to take to everyone in the office.

Did a few other things around the house and then we left for our day of bowling.  These Monday's sure come around fast!!  There were eight of us and today my scores were not so bad and I even picked up a 6 7 split.  Nice to see that 6 pin go sliding across to get the 7.  : )
Scores today were 102, 117, and 127 in that order.
Afterwards we ate at Denny's and I had blueberry pancakes.

Now for a nice evening at home.
Hope your day has been a happy one.

therefore my heart greatly rejoiceth;
and with my song will I praise Him.

On my walk this morning I could not believe what I saw and just had to tell you.
Someone has already put up their Christmas decorations!!! A nativity scene on the porch, a star, and lights on a tree all lit up early this morning as I walked by.  Tried taking a picture but they all came out too blurry to post.

eight and nine

☀     ☀     ☀     ☀
Didn't walk out the door this morning until 7:20 and it was 42 degrees with a bit of a breeze.  Watched another beautiful sunrise but was still in town and couldn't get a place where I could get a good picture.
Dropped off a Netflix at the post office and then continued around the Farm Loop.  Very quite around there and didn't see any of the farmers.  The dairy cows were in the barn and I didn't even see any of the chickens.

Instead of turning right to get back to town, I made a left to another farm because I saw two horses out in the field and went to see them.  They just looked at me and didn't come any closer to the fence so I couldn't pet them.  I did get a picture though.
Left them and continued to town where I walked a loop around there before getting back home.
I walked 5.6 miles.

☀     ☁     ☁     ☂
Ken left soon after I got back from walking so he didn't get to eat any of the banana pancakes that I made for breakfast.  I sliced a banana and just added it to the batter.  Very Good!  I added a bit of syrup and what was left of the redi whip.  David liked that in his coffee so there was just a little left. : )

Didn't do very much today. Did some reading and finished another scarf for my scarf project - these two latest ones are numbers 8 and 9.  I like the one on the left best.
While I was washing out the spaghetti pot this evening after supper I realized just how old that pot is.  I got a set of pots before we were married, even before I knew Ken.  I bought them from a salesman who came to the door.  I was at a friends house and she bought a set and so did I.  My big pot is the only one that is left and it is 46 years old!!  The pots came with a set of silverware service for 8.  We still use that silverware to this day.  5 butter knives are the only ones missing and they got thrown away by accident wrapped up in newspaper after we used them for hammers picking crabs about 26 years ago.  That was a memory that came out of nowhere. : )

This evening I'll start another scarf, eat my ice cream and watch a little television - my normal relaxing evening.

Hope your day was a good one and you smiled often.

Door, railing and goodbye

☀     ☀     ☀     ☀
Left the house at 6:30 this morning and it was 41 degrees out and foggy but the sun chased away the fog and it was a sunny morning.

I walked through town and down towards HT and then around town including both cemeteries and the ball park.

Saw a couple of deer and a whole bunch of black birds sitting on the cat tails by the town pond.  It was hard to tell in the fog but I think they may have been red winged blacked birds.

No people about this morning.
A foggy cemetery.
I saw a doe and her fawn out in whats left of one of the corn fields.  They are in the picture but might be hard to spot.
Deer just off center to the left.
Walked 5.5 miles.
Found my first coin for this month - a penny.
☀     ☀     ☀     ☀
Our dinner at the Hen House was very good last night. Will certainly go back there again!

Got three loads of laundry done and hung up on the line.
I'm loving these beautiful sunny fall days and it's been great that we got to do outside activities with David here.  : )

This morning I baked chocolate chip cookies.  Didn't have any in the freezer and I just couldn't have David here and not have chocolate chip cookies. : )

The other day when David took off walking he walked 9 miles.  Late this morning he went on another walk and this time went 16 miles.  Like I said he walks circles around me!!

Ken and I went up to HT for just a little while in the afternoon.  I wanted to see the sliding glass doors that are now installed. The slider works perfectly.  This afternoon Ken drilled holes in the railing posts and we threaded some steel cable through the holes to make a railing.  We used that because we wanted something that wouldn't block our view.  The steel cable was a great auction buy!!
A closer look at the cable.
We will do something else with the two sides of the porch.

When we got back home David was back from his walk.  We had dinner and then at 6:30 he left for home which is about a 5 hour drive to NJ.  What a great visit we had with David.  It was so nice that he got to stay for more than just a day.  I shall miss him!!

Back to our regular evening, ice cream, knitting and a little television.  I will make a start at getting back to visiting you all.

Hope your day has been a happy one.

Kayaking with David

Not as pretty as yesterday's but still not bad.
☀     ☀     ☀     ☀
41 degrees and I watched the sun come up again and then it stayed out to give us another beautiful day.

Walked over to the laundromat and hung up a flyer on the bulletin board and then continued on to public works to drop off the water bill.  Next stop the post office where I mailed off a Netflix and put up a flyer there too.  Then just walked all over town and down towards HT.

Nothing out of the ordinary this morning, just a great morning walk.  : )
Walked 5.5 miles.
☀     ☀     ☀     ☀
Today was another day spent with David.  This time we borrowed a kayak from a friend for David and the three of us went out kayaking at Savage River Reservoir.  The weather was perfect and it was fun paddling around together.
Some pictures of our paddling.
Heading Out

Can you spot me?
This bees nest came floating by.
Time to turn around.
Water very low.  Another time we have paddled around those trees in the middle of the picture.
 ☀     ☀     ☀     ☀
We received a gift certificate to a restaurant called the Hen House that we have never been to before and thought this would be a good evening to check it out.  So the three of us will be leaving in just a few minutes.

Sorry I haven't been around blog visiting.  Will catch up with you all this weekend.

Hope your day has been a happy one.

Orange and Raspberry

Good Morning
☀     ☀     ☀     ☀
I thought I'd have a walking partner this morning but David was sound asleep when I left.  Tried to wake him but he didn't move.  Reminded me of trying to get him up for school. : )

It was 36 degrees and I watched a beautiful sunrise.  Walked around town, down the main road towards HT and then back to town, around the cemeteries and ball park.

When leaving the ball park the man who runs around it 5 times was just getting there in his car.

I walked 5.4 miles.
☀     ☀     ☀     ☀
Ken and David left for Lowe's to get the sliding glass doors for the cabin and then went right up to HT and installed it.  Sure was nice having David here to help because it was really heavy and I don't think I would have been much help.

While they were doing that I made a trip to the store to replenish our food supply which was getting mighty low.  David's favorite meal is Tuna Casserole so I had to get the ingredients to make that as well. : )

David is a walker too only he can walk circles around me!!  He is off on a walk right now, so thought I quick get a post out.

Well, I'm off to get some things done and make that casserole.
Hope you're have a super day.

A surprise visit

☀     ☀     ☀     ☀
Quite a bit warmer than yesterday morning with temperature of 42 degrees.  Didn't leave until 7:30 this morning so even though the sun wasn't over the mountain yet it wasn't dark.  Nice to walk in the light and eventually the sunshine.

I walked the Farm Loop.  The dairy cows were out again and the chickens were walking around the yard too.  At the farm pond were a whole mess of mallard ducks and they all took off when I stopped to take a picture, so didn't get a good picture.

Farmer Goerg was out and so was Farmer Bill who both waved as I walked by.

Once I got back to town I walked a quick loop around town and then home.
Walked 5.4 miles.
☀     ☀     ☀     ☀
While I was walking I talked to our son David on the phone when he told me he was an hour or so away and was on his way for a visit. :  )

We visited and got caught up with news in the morning and then after lunch we took him up to HT to see the work on the cabin.
Here sit Ken and David.
We walked around the HT trails  and then went on to the state forest land which our land backs up to walked on one of the trails there.  I didn't have my camera with me so couldn't take any pictures of the beautiful scenery we came across at the top of the mountain.  We walked a loop that was about 4 miles.

What a beautiful day for walking in the woods and it was so nice to have David here to enjoy it with us. : )

Had supper at Annie's here in town and now we are going to play a game of Mexican Train.

Probably won't have time to visit with you in the next couple of days but will try to get a post up and visit when I can.

Hope your day has been a happy one.

Frosty Rose

The end of my knock out roses for this year.
Frosty Rose
☀     ☀     ☀     ☀
This morning it was 26 degrees and frosty and when the sun finally rose it was nice and sunny.  Sun just reaching town when I was getting back home.  Made for an invigorating walk.  I had a few layers on and stayed nice and warm and had a great walk. : )

Tweaked my town walk route a bit and now it is just right.  Here are a couple of frosty pictures along my way.
The man who runs around the ball park loop was there today and the first time we passed I asked him how many times he runs around the loop.  He said 5.  The next time he passed me I asked him if he ever though about running up to the cemetery and back for a change.  He said he might just do that.  : )

The usual people waved to me from their cars, trucks and buses.
Walked 5.5 miles.
☀     ☀     ☀     ☀
Did a load of laundry and a couple things around the house before we left for our bowling.  My bowling scores this week were worse than usual.  : )  86 - 96 - 97
There were 8 of us this week and afterwards we went to Pizza Hut like last week.

We bought our own Mexican Train game and we got it in the mail a couple of days ago.  Tonight me and Ken are going to play it.

The frost last night killed the rest of the flowers growing in my yard.  The day warmed up in the 50's and was sunny.  A beautiful fall day.

That's it for today.
Hope your day was a happy one.

Gold

I Peter 1:7
That the trial of your faith,
being much more precious than of gold that perisheth,
though it be tried with fire,

When trying His servant and molding a man.
Give thanks to the Lord though your testing seems long;
In darkness He giveth a song.

I could not see through the shadows ahead;
So I looked at the cross of my Savior instead.
Ii bowed to the will of the Master that day;
Then peace came and tears fled away.

Now I can see testing comes from above;
God strengthens His children, and I trust in His care;
Through purging more fruit I will bear.

Snow falling

It's been a while since I've taken a picture of my favorite barn.
Passed by on my walk this morning.
☁     ☁     ☁     ☁
Started walking at 7:10 this morning and it was not so dark so I walked around the farm loop.  Again it was 40 degrees out but with a bit of a breeze kicking up and it stayed cloudy.

The cows were all out at the dairy farm but then were busy eating and barely gave me a glance.

Hunters must have been around this morning because I heard quite a lot of gun shots.  I'm glad I wear my bright day glow green sweatshirt.

George was driving by and stopped to say hi and a quick chat.  Farmer Bill was out in the field and gave a wave.  Back in town walking a loop around there I saw Connie from the library in the post office parking lot and stopped to have a chat with her too.

Walked 5.4 miles.
☁     ☁     ☁     ☁
Lots of leaves are falling and now I have to get out and rake some leaves.
Did a little cleaning around the house and then just sat in the chair and read some of my book.  A friend stopped over for about an hour and when she left I went back to reading.

Ken went to a friends house yesterday and then again today with the tractor to dig a long deep trench for some pipes.

A few times today I've watched some snow falling from the sky!!  It's melting on contact but still it seems early to be seeing snow.

Posting a bit early today because we are going to a friends 50th wedding anniversary celebration.

Hope your day is a happy one.

A good day

☀     ☀     ☀     ☀

A crisp fall morning just like yesterday, 40 degrees, dark and after sunrise it stayed sunny.

Walked around town again and down past the HT turn off and back to town.

Sad - a deer was hit by a car and was dead along the side of the road and I had to walk around her.

Haven't seen any of the women walkers and runners that I see once in a while for quite a while now.  Since I've been walking I've seen many people start walking and then peter out after a while.  Once in a while I'll see them back again making a new start.

Walked 5.8 miles.
☀     ☀     ☀     ☀
I made some Pumpkin Bars this morning for the Ladies Fall Fellowship this evening.  They are supposed to have a cream cheese icing but I just sprinkled some powdered sugar on top. They were good, just nothing special so I didn't post the recipe and I won't make them again.

Did this and that around the house this afternoon and left with my Pumpkin Bars and pumpkin (one of the ones that came up in my front yard) for the ladies fellowship.
I added my pumpkin to the ones on the tables.
Sandy, a woman from church gave the devotional, we ate and then we could either stay and decorate a pumpkin or go on a hay ride.  Guess what I did?  I went on the hayride which was great fun.  We sang some songs, looked up at the stars, laughed a lot and even saw a deer.

On the bottom of 4 dessert plates was the word winner.  If you had one you won a pumpkin candy dish filled with candy.  I was one of the winners.  : )
It's been a good day.
Hope yours was a good one too.

Baby Blankets

☀     ☀     ☀     ☀
Left the house this morning at 0 dark 30 with a temperature of 40 degrees.  A nice crisp fall morning.
Drane House

Walked up and down all the streets in town and down the main road out towards HT.  It has been so dark that I like to stay around town under the street lights.

A couple of rabbits were hopping around by the cemetery and a couple of people were out walking dogs.

Waved to all the usual people in their cars, trucks, and buses.

Always enjoy these nice crisp mornings.

Today was the first of a new project for the women of my church - making baby blankets for the newborns at the local hospital.  Only 8 of us showed up but we had a good time learning how to make simple baby blankets out of two layers of fleece.  The ends are cut into strips 3 inches long and then tied in square knots.  A couple of people had made them before but it was a new thing for most of us.  It is very easy though a little slow going for us beginners, but Charlotte has made many and she finished hers in the two hours we were there.  So we have our very first blanket done.

We found this jaw bone with some teeth in it at HT.  Pretty sure it's a deer.

We went out for supper tonight at Uno's.  With all the running around and cooking I've been doing lately, it was nice to sit down and be waited on. : )

That's it for today.  Hope yours was a happy one.

Happy Trails and the cream puffs

☁     ☁     ☁     ☁
Game night was great fun last night and all the food came out perfect.  As promised here's a picture of the cream puffs.  They were a big hit.
We really enjoyed playing Mexican Train and we did a LOT of laughing.  My cheeks hurt from laughing so much. : )  What a great group of people.  It was after 11 by the time they left and the time flew by.

I did all the dishes after they left (they offered to help) and don't even know what time it was when I got to bed, so as was expected I didn't get up at 6:15 and go walking.  Didn't get up till 8:00!!
We had breakfast and I decided I would just do my walking along the trails up at Happy Trails.

Ken walked with me for the first 2 miles and I walked the other 3 on my own.   A couple of the trails where I walked.

Ken installed 4 windows in the cabin when he was up alone last week.
I'm standing in the same spot to take this picture to the right.  You can see the door which has to be installed yet.  Ken picked it up at an auction for a good price.  It is the same kind of door that was our front door when we lived in the old house in Savage, Md.
Here's looking at the back of the cabin.
This is the area behind the tractor barn where Ken cut down three trees to widen the area there.  Our stone quarry is there off the to left.
And more work was done on the stone wall.
All too soon it was time to go back home where I made us some cauliflower and broccoli soup for supper.

I should be at my book club now but like I said yesterday I haven't finished the book which is The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah.  Now today I just got an email from the library saying the book for next months selection is waiting for me to pick it up.  Just can't find the time to read as much as I used to.

Well, it's Wednesday and time for church so I'd better finish up this post and get going.

Hope your day has been a happy one.
