Walking is the perfect way of moving if you want to see into the life of things. It is the one way of freedom. If you go to a place on anything but your own feet you are taken there too fast, and miss a thousand delicate joys that were waiting for you by the wayside. Elizabeth von Arnim

Wednesday

 ☃     ☃     ☃     ☃
I woke up at 7:30 this morning.  My internal clock has been off lately.  It was 35 degrees when I left on my walk and there was a fine rain/snow mix coming down.  I could feel it getting colder as I walked and a wind kicked up too.

Walked up and down the three hilly streets which are behind my house.  Flicka lives at the end of one of them with Patriot.  Don't know which one this is but they have a nice big pile of hay to eat.
Walked all over town including the two cemeteries and the loop behind the ball park.  Didn't see anyone else out.  Nothing unusual today.

So nice to be out walking around my town.
I walked 6.4 miles.

All the presents are wrapped and sitting under the tree waiting for Christmas morning.  Sometimes we open one on Christmas Eve.  : )

Some Gingerbread men sit around the tree too.  Can't eat these though, they are wooden.
Some house chores got done and I also had a little time for some knitting and reading too.  It's been a good day so far. : )
Hope your day is a good one too.

Fail not to call to mind,
in the course of the twenty-fifth of this month,
that the Divinest Heart that ever walked the earth
was born on that day;
and then smile and enjoy yourselves for the rest of it;
for mirth is also of Heaven's making.

Kerri - Thanks for the book recommendation.  I've made a note of it and will check it out.
John - I know what you mean, some days I have to make myself go home.  : )

Sounds like you are all ready for Christmas. I have simplified so much this year so almost ready!

I don't even have mine bought yet let alone wrapped but like the other Jeanne I have simplified since there are no little ones. I can put a gift card in and envelope and stick a bow on it... Done!!!

My wife's family kept the presents hidden until Christmas Eve, so my tradition changed when I got married. Your post reminds me of how it used to be. I liked the excitement and anticipation of the growing pile of gifts under the tree that we had when I was a kid.

I see some of your other friends are simplifying Christmas as I have. Dave volunteered to make an egg casserole and bring a fruit salad.I am so pleased about that. Mary Jo

That horse is happy with that huge pile of hay! We have a chance of some "wintery mix" overnight, but it is a very slim chance. You have been a very busy little elf!

It is nearly the longest night of the year; you could let yourself sleep in a little!

Hello There, I enjoyed your post today. George and I open one present each on Christmas Eve. We started that tradition when we got married.

Sorry I haven’t been around much lately. I do try to read blogs—but just haven’t commented very much lately like I usually try to do. Please don’t give up on me. Hopefully my life will be back to ‘normal’— whatever that is (ha), sometime in January.

I did get a cortisone shot in my knee —which has helped with the pain somewhat. In January, I will most likely have meniscus tear surgery…. BUT—in the meantime, I plan to have a fantastic Christmas —and hopefully get to see my kids/grands… God is Good.

Hugs,
Betsy

Hi Karen -
Well you and Ken are all ready for Christmas. We often open one gift on Christmas Eve as well. It is a tradition the children especially loved. I love your little wooden ginger bread men! We are having cool, wet weather here too and I am loving it. See you tomorrow!

Another good walk, I love how you vary it.
Our parcels are under the tree, well the ones I have bought. My youngest grandsons love to check that there is something there for them so I make sure theirs are among the first wrapped.
Everyone is coming to my house for Christmas dinner this year so it is going to be heaps of fun.

I get the sense that you have everything under control, Karen. Now you can relax and enjoy the days leading up to Christmas. I like your wooden gingerbread men.

Gingerbread men for termites? You are both so organized, I still have shopping to do, and wrapping. I remember as a kid we could each open one present Christmas Eve. And of course, Santa had not arrived yet so we got to pick from presents our parents had bought us. :^)
