Walking is the perfect way of moving if you want to see into the life of things. It is the one way of freedom. If you go to a place on anything but your own feet you are taken there too fast, and miss a thousand delicate joys that were waiting for you by the wayside. Elizabeth von Arnim

A bit of icy rain

Another picture from last week.
✼     ✼     ✼     ✼
This morning it was 30 degrees with a bit of a wind.  Didn't even get down to the end of my driveway and some frozen rain started to fall.  I was just about to go back in and change again when it stopped just as quickly as it started so I continued on.
Walked through town and up Barn Sale Rd to check out the cows.  They were all around the hay feeder eating.  Gave me a quick look and then went back to eating.  I walked almost to the end of the road but stopped just short of a house where sometimes there are loose dogs, turned around and walked back passed the cows.

Every so often some freezing rain would fall for just a minute or two and then stop again.  The hood of my sweatshirt got wet and then froze.

Once I got back to the main road I headed down toward Happy Trails and turned around when I got just passed the road I would take up the mountain to get there.

Back in town I walked around the loop behind the ball park and the last mile of my walk the frozen rain started and continued until I got home.
Didn't see anyone else out walking but did see a few people scraping their car windshields.

Most of the roads were well treated so they were just wet but this brick sidewalk was a sheet of ice and I walked in the road.
Got home just in time.
I walked 6.2 miles.

We've had that icy rain on and off today so it was a good day to stay home.  I finished up changing a few things around around the house from yesterday and then spent some time reading.  I've started an Agatha Christi book that is one of my own, Murder in Mesopotamia.  It's a Hercule Poirot mystery.   I prefer Miss Marple mysteries but this is a good one.

Plan on being home the rest of the day.  Have no idea what supper will be tonight yet.

I'm on the lookout for some fast and simple appetizers to make that don't have to be kept warm.  Does anyone have one to share?  Thanks.

May your day be one of sunshine.

Ice is no fun! We've had rain off and on all day here, but the temperature is in the upper fifties, so ice is not a concern. Glad you had no mishaps with the ice while you were walking. Appetizers? That is always a challenge for me. I'll see what I can locate and let you know.

Glad you managed to get your walk in despite the freezing rain. Wonder what else you moved around in the house. Mary Jo

Hi Happyone, Another great walk today. That second picture is just awesome! You are really in some beautiful country there. You know what's funny ... After reading your blog for a couple of months I think of you as being in Maryland and usually I think of Maryland being a real highly populated area. You know, kind of like around Washington DC, etc. But your photos look like way out in the country, or, at least you don't have to walk too far to get out there. I am in the middle of the city here, but I love getting out in the country side where it is quiet and I can enjoy nature. I just want to say thanks for always answering my questions and for stopping by my little blog and leaving me the kind comments. John

This is one of my favorite appetizers. I use turkey instead of ham.

What an interesting 'screen door' (for lack of knowing what type of door it is or the purpose it served) in your first image.

Glad you got home before it became icier. The brick sidewalk looks treacherous.

Ah, yes. I do have an appetizer recipe for you and you will be amazed at how simple (and tasty) it is. :) Here is the link - foodnetwork.com/recipes/giada-de-laurentiis/parmesan-crisps-recipe.html They are preferred to be eaten when cooled.

I was a big fan of Agatha Christie after reading all the Nancy Drew Mysteries. Poirot's character grew on me after awhile.

Freezing rain is the "pits"...we've had it here for 2 days now and quite frankly that's two days too long.
I still admire that you get out and about even in not so stellar weather conditions.

I'm not a big fan of freezing rain, so good for you to get out there in it and not let it stop you!
