Each morning when I open my eyes I say to myself;
I, not events, have the power to make me happy or unhappy today.
I can choose which it shall be. Yesterday is dead, tomorrow hasn’t arrived yet.
I have just one day, today, and I’m going to be happy in it.

Adventures at Happy Trails

Picture of the Day
Farm Road
❤     ❤     ❤     ❤
This morning it was 60 degrees with some low hanging clouds around, but as I walked I saw the sun come out in a pretty blue sky with puffy white clouds.

I walked the Farm Loop then passed up my house and walked down the main road through town for a mile, then turned around and headed back home.

It was a very quiet morning and didn't see anyone else out.  An uneventful but nice walk.

I walked 6.2 miles.

Before church last night we stopped by to see Bettye (she spells her name with the e at the end) and drop off the meal I made for her.  She is doing very well and looks great. : )  She says she has no pain and is just tired. I told her that many of my blogging friends prayed for her and she thanks you all.  : )

This morning I said to Ken, "How are you today?"  I loved his answer, "Tip Top!"

Today after breakfast we headed up to Happy Trails.  Ken has really been busy up there the last few times he went there on his own.  He has cleared more area along side the tractor barn and has started building a stone wall.
Has also started clearing a road up this way. We have decided this is where we will build our little cabin in the woods.  He still has a few more trees to get out of the way.  It's really hard to see in the picture but up ahead are some little pink flags where the cabin will be.  Maybe we can start it next spring.
We took the ATV for a ride around HT.  I started off driving but Ken was making me drive places I did not find fun.  I went over a big log, through a gully that I thought surely I'd tip us over, so I got out and let him drive.  I told him it must be a guy thing driving the ATV around in the woods.   I would rather walk around HT.  : ) I prefer to drive the ATV on the roads we have already made, not forging new ones.

The pond has here at HT is just a big puddle now at this time of year.  I was so surprised to see this big turtle come out of the mud under the water.  It was huge.  I took his picture before he decided to hide himself in the mud again.
So nice to spend some time up at Happy Trails.

Hope your day is a happy one too.

  1. Wow, I just love the view down the farm lane in your picture of the day!

Glad to hear the good report on Bettye. No doubt she enjoyed the meal you made for her.
I'm with you - I would not have enjoyed driving the ATV in the woods over all those obstacles, either - better job for the guys!

Glad you liked the results of baking the bread in the oven opposed to the bread maker. That's the only way I'm doing it now (unless in a pinch for time) but it makes the crust so much nicer, in my opinion, baking in the oven.

Love the quote you shared today.

  2. I meant to say more, but something "froze," and I couldn't do anything except hit "publish.":-)

I would be nervous riding on the ATV. I've never been very adventuresome.:-)

I would love that 60-degree morning temperature here!

It's good to hear that Bettye is improving.

  3. Really great to hear that Bettye is doing so well. You are so sweet to take a meal to her as she recovers.
I wonder if Ken feels "tip top" because he keeps busy and seems to have a zest for life. I think that's a great way to be, especially in retirement.
That turtle picture is so cool. Wow, he/she is huge. What a fun surprise.

  4. You're making good, steady progress at Happy Trails. I think I would be more comfortable with your ATV style than I would with Ken's style. I really like your second photo with the low-lying fog.

What fun to plan your cabin in your woods. I can't wait to see that happen. What a cool turtle! Art

  7. That is so neat that you were able to get a picture of Mr. Turtle before he hid himself in the mud. What a fun surprise to find him. I also love the wall hanging of the Beattitudes you found yesterday ~ the perfect thing to hang above your church pew! Sounds like you had a fun day at HT! See you again soon!
