Walking is the perfect way of moving if you want to see into the life of things. It is the one way of freedom. If you go to a place on anything but your own feet you are taken there too fast, and miss a thousand delicate joys that were waiting for you by the wayside. Elizabeth von Arnim

Farmer George

It was a cool 46 degrees this morning and cloudy for my walk.  I walked the farm loop cemetery route today.

It was an especially good walk.  I didn't see the farmer from yesterday but as I walked passed another farm a man was standing at the roads edge by his cornfield chopping some of the stalks down.  We both said good morning and then I stopped to talk.  I told him I walk past here almost every day and he said, "Yes, I know I see you."  He told me all the corn he grows are for the animals.   He was chopping down the stalks at the edge of the field so that he would be able to get his tractor into the field and for the next few weeks he will be harvesting the corn.

He liked talking about his farm and we had quite a nice conversation about farming.  He also grows soy beans and told me that just three little beans come out of one of the pods so it takes many plants to get a gross of beans out of them.   He raises beef too and I said the cows seem to be very curious animals and he said yes they were and were quite fun to watch.  He put it like this, "You just set yourself down by some young calves to watch and you'll get ta laughin and laughin at their antics.  Right entertaining."  I asked if they would mind being petted and he said they would like it, they are pretty friendly animals.

When I asked if I could take his picture for my blog he said, "Sure."  So here is a picture of Farmer George, my new friend. : )

We said good bye and I continued on my walk.

I saw Lisa again running around the cemetery and we stopped to talk for a bit too.  We've met once before.  Sometimes I see her in the distance and I've seen her run by my house too.

When I passed by the chicken that lives alone in town I was so surprised to see all the feathers around her.  When I asked her what on earth happened to all your feathers, she just clucked at me.
A little farther down the road I saw the big orange cat that usually just watches me walk by most days.  Today though she came sauntering over to me and when I reached down to pet her, I was rewarded with a loud purring.  She finally decided to be friends.

So that was my interesting walk today. : )
I walked 6.2 miles - 12,023.

Just hanging around home today.  Doing a few last minute things around the house.  Cheryl will be here late this afternoon.

Posting a bit early in the day for me.  Don't know if I'll have a chance later on.
Have a great weekend.

I see that you are becoming part of the community... When a farmer takes a moment to chat and a a cat makes friends, it's a good sign. Now I am wondering what happened to the hen!

You had quite an interesting walk today.
Most farmers are the greatest! A great pic of your new friend and his corn field.

Hmm...I wonder if the cat tried to become "acquainted" with the hen and that's what happened to her feathers!

Sounds like a nice guy. Farmers sure do an important job and work so hard. Maybe the chicken will tell you later what happened.
