Each morning when I open my eyes I say to myself;
I, not events, have the power to make me happy or unhappy today.
I can choose which it shall be. Yesterday is dead, tomorrow hasn’t arrived yet.
I have just one day, today, and I’m going to be happy in it.

A busy day

Another warm walking morning with a temperature of 64 degrees and this time it was foggy too.
I walked the farm loop going in the opposite direction that I usually walk.  Then walked around one of the little cemeteries, up to the main road and down it for a bit, then turned around and headed home.

On the long stretch of road in the picture a woman in a maroon car passes me each morning (usually the only car) and at first she waved.  Now she no longer waves because most times she is talking on the phone.  I always walk facing traffic and this morning I saw her coming towards me but she stayed right on the edge of the road.  I thought she doesn't see me and I hopped into the field as she passed by.  Sure enough she was on the phone and I'm sure she didn't even see me.  I'm sure glad I was paying attention!!

I took another picture of the chickens as I walked passed their farm.
I walked 6 miles - 11,850 steps.

We drove to Cumberland which is about 30 miles or so from home.  Ken wanted to check out a hobby store there.  We found the store and then walked around town a bit. He was hoping they would have some scale modeling train supplies but the selection was poor.  I'm not really crazy about the old part of town and I find it a bit depressing.  We soon left and stopped at a few stores in LaVale.  One of which was Kohls and I got some things - long sleeve T shirts, a white blouse, a pink sweatshirt type jacket for those cool morning walks, and some work gloves.  It was Karen Day! : )
The honey in the picture above I got at the produce/candy store.  It's a strange store.  One side is healthy fruits and vegetables and the other side has lots of different kinds of candy all in bins that you buy by the pound.  I should have taken a picture.  I will next time we are in there.  I did take a picture of this huge candy bar though.  Now that is what I call a candy bar!!
We stopped in a couple of other stores too, had lunch out and got home about 3:00.

Then it was outside on the riding mower cutting the lawn for me.  I am quite a sight as I drive around the yard.  I wear my ball cap, big red ear protection things and sunglasses to keep the flying grass out of my eyes.  I've also learned not to sing while I mow because even though I can't hear others can hear me!! : )

My next event was walking to the library for the Book Club.  There 10 people there including me.  Only one person didn't read the book and I liked that we actually did discuss the book which was King Peggy by Peggielene Bartels and Eleanor Herman.  We all liked the book.  It wasn't a page turner for me but I did like it.
Next months book is The Art of Hearing Heartbeats by Jan-Philipp Sendker.  I put the book on the reserve list at the library and I'm number two.

Soon I'll be having my snack and watching a little television.  No ice cream for me today.  I'm having cottage cheese, with fresh strawberries, a banana, and a handful of raisins.

A happy day to you.

when all is safe and assured,
it may never arrive.

  3. Do you have something reflective on your clothing, Karen? That woman is not behaving in a very responsible way. Quite scary! Perhaps having a small flashlight that you can turn on whenever a maroon car shows up. Kohl's has some nice sales right now and coupons.

  4. So glad you were alert when that distracted driver wasn't paying attention. You got some fun things at Kohls. I am going to look up that book and maybe I will read it to, if I can get it from our library. Our local library here hasn't been very good since the recession and budget cuts. It takes months to get anything reserved. Oh well, I have plenty to read, right here at home :-) Glad you had such a grand day! See you tomorrow!

  5. Looks like a fun day... Glad you watched for the car --where the woman was on the phone... Yipes!!!! Be careful ---especially if it's foggy.

We stayed in Cumberland at the Hol. Inn Express once... I don't remember much about the town --and can't remember where we ate dinner that night...

Glad you are enjoying your book club.
    Hugs,
    Betsy

  6. I'm glad you're liking the book club. I may join one of those someday. That woman needs to stop talking on the phone while she's driving!

  9. Sounds like a great day for you. Good thing one of you was paying attention. Good thing you walk facing traffic (some people don't). Too many people drive as if they are the only one on the road, just focused on where they have to get to and whoever they are talking to. And too many pedestrians and cyclists seem totally unaware of their surroundings. So good for you! Art
