Walking is the perfect way of moving if you want to see into the life of things. It is the one way of freedom. If you go to a place on anything but your own feet you are taken there too fast, and miss a thousand delicate joys that were waiting for you by the wayside. Elizabeth von Arnim

A peaceful walk

This morning it was 33 degrees and cloudy as I walked around the lake.  I saw five deer on the way there but none by the lake - only geese.
Just a few people out so I had the lake practically to myself.  Nice and peaceful and as always such a nice way to start my day.
All the foot bridges where a bit slippery with a very light coating of ice but fine everywhere else.
I took a little detour around some apartments looking for some coins in the parking lot. I didn't find any, but I did run into Denise, a walking friend from the lake who was changing the air filter in her car so I stopped for a while to talk to her.

I walked 6.6 miles.

Commissary day, so after breakfast, I went over my list, added a few things, gathered up my shopping bags and headed out the door.
So much traffic on the roads today but once inside the commissary there was hardly anyone there so no lines to wait on.  I just could not find egg beaters today.  I even asked someone but the egg beaters were nowhere to be found.  Well, at least I got some extra steps in for the day! : )

Ken took the day off and is over at the old house fixing the things that the inspector found wrong.  If he gets home before supper we plan on going out to the library and to pick up some more red bows for the Christmas tree.  If not we will go after supper.
Now, I'm going to have some lunch and then finish the library book I'm reading.

Hope you're having a sunshiny kind of day.

I sometimes think we expect too much of Christmas Day.
We try to crowd into it the long arrears of kindliness
and humanity of the whole year.
As for me, I like to take my Christmas a little at a time,
all through the year.
And thus I drift along into the holidays,
let them overtake me unexpectedly -
waking up some fine morning and suddenly saying to myself:
Why, this is Christmas Day!

Sounds like you had a beautiful morning walk! I think morning is the most beautiful time of day.

I read the most delightful thing about our desires for "perfect" holidays or "perfect" anything. If I remember where, I'll send you the link. Sometimes, usually during a snowstorm in March, the day will feel so much like Christmas, especially if I bake something. Feels a lot like Christmas today because I have that last loaf of bread baking...hmmm...

I know that you are careful about those skims of ice...we unthinkingly allowed Molly out the other morning without tending the stairs and she fell, poor baby. What bad parents we are.

We can't find the oatmeal we like anymore. It drives me nuts to have products just disappear this way.

I love your quote for the day today. Sounds like such a lovely walk and a good plan for the day!

Mmmmm, comes the 'black ice' again. -pout-

Sweet thought conveyed in that quote or saying. So many do think they can/must pack so much into Christmas. How can anything come up to such high expectations...

That is a very timely quote and good food for thought.
I'm curious to know how you use your Egg Beaters. I buy them from time to time and seem to forget to use them. Good intentions. Do you use them in baking? I'm just wondering if they work well for that.
Hope you were able to get your bows today.
