Each morning when I open my eyes I say to myself;
I, not events, have the power to make me happy or unhappy today.
I can choose which it shall be. Yesterday is dead, tomorrow hasn’t arrived yet.
I have just one day, today, and I’m going to be happy in it.

A couple of cold mornings

A bit chilly outside yesterday morning and again today - only 17 degrees.  Both days there was no wind and the sun came out so it didn't feel as cold as that, beside as you know i wear lots of layers to keep me warm.
Yesterday i walked around the lake.  As it was the annual gathering of the Centennial Sunrise Walkers, i stopped by the pavilion to say hi to the other walkers there.  From 7:30 til 9:00 you could get coffee, juice, water and donuts.  One of the walkers and his wife organize this every year. I just had a chocolate donut hole.  I stayed for about 10 minutes and then continued on my way.

This morning i walked around the neighborhoods along the sidewalks and some paths too.  No special route.  I didn't see anyone else out along the paths.  The only people i said good morning to were people scraping the ice off their windshields.
Along one of the paths was a sign saying that it will be closed tomorrow to take care of the over population of deer.  That must explain why i didn't see any deer today, they have all gone into hiding!
Took a picture of this C3 Corvette parked in front of a townhouse i walked past.  If i didn't have my Corvette this is the generation style i would want.  I'd like a red one but i like this blue too.
I walked 6.1 miles this morning.

I drove over to the mall and got a few Christmas presents for Ken.  Lots of people there already on a Monday morning.  I wasn't there long.  Just got what i needed and headed back home.  I wore my pedometer walking around the mall and walked another two miles there.

I'm sending out very few Christmas cards this year!!  Mostly just to family and close friends who i won't see to wish them a Merry Christmas in person.  I guess i'll start doing that later on this afternoon or this evening.  Do you still send out cards?

I finished reading The Help and thought is was a very good book.  You can already get the movie through NETFLIX though it says a 'long wait.'  I have it first in my queue.  I'm sure i'll like the book better than the movie but i'd still like to see it.

Well off i go to read blogs and then get started on those cards.
Have a great Monday.
A smile from me to you.
 Happyone : )

  2. Yes I do send out a few cards but not as many as in the past. I must get busy this week!! Love your gift suggestions - such wonderful gifts and all in my budget!

  3. I send out a few cards mostly to the older generation who are shut in or would truly feel left out by not receiving one. It's such a simple thing. I've got them mostly done.

Oh you're going to miss seeing all the deer. I know that these thinning of the herds are a necessary evil, still...

That's a lot of walking at the mall. I've managed to avoid the mall thus far, but perhaps I'll be there first thing in the morning myself.

  4. Oh yes, we still send out cards! I love writing them and receiving them, too.

Yes, the past few mornings have been cold, haven't they? The frost has been heavy, too.

  5. For years, I didn't enjoy the Christmas Card doing. Then, a long time ago actually, I stopped. It has been such a relief, ever since.

Why do what is always dreaded?

But many people love, love, love doing it, so for them... It's wonderful.

It has been so cold!!! That Full Cold Moon really zapped us down into seasonal temps. :-)

Went out to take some frost pics this morning, but didn't do well. ,-) I was probably too cold. I am such a wimp, compared to you. :-)

But then, I have a lot-more-miles-on-my-person-*pedometer*, than you do. -gigggles-

  6. Hi Karen, Sounds like you had a nice walk --and fellowship with the Sunrise Hikers today...

Pretty corvette... I love that blue---but I'd be happy with ANY color... ha ha

I send our cards every year. BUT--my list and the list of cards I receive is getting smaller and smaller. I still like the tradition --but don't know how much longer it will be around... Sad to me!

The Help is great --both book and movie...
    Hugs,
    Betsy

  7. My card list gets smaller each year. I still like to send cards to my relatives and a few close friends and I include a little news letter with photos for those who don't follow the blog. Last year I made my own using a snowy home photo but usually I buy some extra nice cards in the January sales. At work we don't send each other cards but put the money we would have spent into a pot and send it to Oxfam to pay for something specific like education or healthcare. Of course we send cards to our class so this year I sent 60 as I teach 2 classes on a regular basis.

  8. I always send a christmas newsletter with my cards, but last year and this, I just sent the newsletter. And the list of folks shrinks every year. That is OK. I am feeling pretty untraditional so who knows, maybe we will drop the habit of sending anything.

But this year... a newsletter and it will probably get sent after christmas.
