Walking is the perfect way of moving if you want to see into the life of things. It is the one way of freedom. If you go to a place on anything but your own feet you are taken there too fast, and miss a thousand delicate joys that were waiting for you by the wayside. Elizabeth von Arnim

Coming Home

We ended up not spending the night at Punkin Chunkin after all.  It was cold and windy and the sun didn't come out until late afternoon but still we had a fun time being there.
My friend Cheryl has a neighbor who participates in firing a pumpkin out of a cannon like structure out of an old school bus and their team is called Y Ask Y.
This picture is of a Knight who has a contraption that he uses to chuck pumpkins and i just took a picture of him because i've seen him on television on years past.  This years event will be on the science channel Thanksgiving Day.
We enjoyed the launchers that were simple and people made and used people power to launch their pumpkins more than the cannon type.  The cannon type went so far and fast that you couldn't even see the pumpkins.  It was more exciting watching the simpler kind where you could actually watch the pumpkins being launched up and out.
There were many many launches.  From one end of the fence to the other was three quarters of a mile and launches were lined up all the way.

We attached a canvas tarp to the FJ and was going to use that as our tent.  We would have been able to sleep in the back of the FJ.  It was so windy and as you can see from this picture how the wind billowed it out.  Ken took this picture and we though it so funny the way i was just standing there looking at it, like i was waiting for something to happen.  It was secure and wouldn't have blown off but the wind sure was noisy.
I'm sure you can compete up with some captions of your own!! : )
We were sitting in chairs inside our puffed up tent listening to the wind blowing after spending the day walking around.  It was cold and we both looked at each other and then Ken said, "What are you thinking?"  I said, "I will stay the night if you want too, but i'd just as soon go home."  He smiled and said, "So would I."  So we packed everything up and came home last night.
It was so nice coming home to where it was warm and sleeping in a nice warm bed.
I wore my pedometer yesterday and we walked just over five miles.

It was pretty chilly outside this morning when i took my morning walk with a temperature of 33 degrees.  There was a bit of a breeze too so it was really nice when the sun rose and stayed out.  I just walked wherever i felt like it and didn't stick to any route.
Only saw a couple of people out and no wildlife except for a couple of robins.
I walked 6.6 miles.

This morning we unloaded the car and we're having a nice Saturday.  Out to do some errands and also hanging around the house.

Giving Thanks Day Number 5
After yesterday and last night.
Today I am thankful for a nice warm house
and a cozy warm bed. : )

Hope your Saturday has been a good one.
A smile from me to you.

Good for you. You enjoyed the fun, but came home to a warm bed.

Ahhhhh it's the Science Ch., which carries the 'Pumpkin Chuckin'! Couldn't remember which channel... And even tho it will be on Thanksgiving Day, it will be repeated. :-)

I LIKE that Knight!!! What's not to like, with that great gray mustache and beard?!? :-)

His chain mail<---(how do you spell this word, I wonder?) looks like what Gabe wore, for Halloween. :-)

Gentle hugs,

Great minds think alike! As for a caption..."You want me to sleep in that?!"

It does sound like a fun day. (I know how windy it was yesterday as John was on the ladder all day and I was worried about him.)

No one wants to miss Pumpkin Chuckin. I'm with you, who wants to freeze when there is a nice warm bed waiting.

Good to hear you enjoy seeing it. I'm sure I'll enjoy it too watching Thanksgiving Day on TV in a nice warm house. You're a better soul than I for even considering staying overnight....brrr.

As for a caption, "is this the outhouse?"

I'm always thankful for a warm home even in the summertime.

I thought about you with chilly weather, and how uncomfortable it would be to sleep in your 'tent'. I'm glad to hear you and Ken were like-minded and came home! There's no place like a warm home when it's cold outside.

We headed south yesterday but didn't make it all the way down to the punkin' chunkin' ... I thought about you as we were drinking coffee and eating pancakes at the restaurant where ended up re-considering our days plans! I'm sure you had a much more comfortable night at home!

Well, now I know what Punkin Chunkin is all about. It's amazing what I learn from blog reading :).
I was impressed that you would even consider camping out with those weather conditions.

At least you gave it a go and had the option of going home. We had many years of weekend camping with the Sealed Knot when the children were younger but now I am wondering if it was the right move to agree to a whole week's camping on the Scilly Isles (for the gig racing event)next May. The thing that concerns me the most is that you can't take cars on the ferry so we will be limited in how much we can take.
