Walking is the perfect way of moving if you want to see into the life of things. It is the one way of freedom. If you go to a place on anything but your own feet you are taken there too fast, and miss a thousand delicate joys that were waiting for you by the wayside. Elizabeth von Arnim

A full weekend

A beautiful morning again.  Lots of sunshine, low humidity and 64 degrees.  I made my way to the lake and walked around it.  This morning too, there were lots of people about enjoying the lake early in the morning - a bit too many people for me.  I think I'll be taking more walks along the pathways through the woods where there are less people and walk the lake when I start to miss it.
There are paddle boats to rent on the lake and this one appears to have broken away from the pier across the lake.  Here it sits among the lily pads.
I saw the heron flying low over the lake.  I never get tired of seeing how graceful they look in flight like that.
Two people stopped this morning to let me walk across the street and I wasn't even in a cross walk!
I walked 6.2 miles.

A few of you were interested in how I liked the Kenny Chesney concert we went to on Saturday evening.  Let me put it this way - I'm still not a fan of country music.
The evening was still quite an experience though and one I won't soon forget.  First of all Ken's friend was supposed to pick us up at a commuter lot so we could all go in one car - save on the parking fee.  We were there on time, but the others couldn't seem to get things together and almost TWO hours later we were on our way.  During our wait, Ken read and I walked the parking lot a while looking for coins - no luck.  We drove to a Burger King about a mile away so I could make a pit stop.
Once we got to FedEx Field we had to park about a mile away.  No big deal to walk, but we were all shocked to find out that parking cost $50!!!
Found our seats - pretty good ones actually and then walked around and got something to eat and a drink.
The warm up singers came and went and by the time Kenny Chesney came on, I would say that about 75% of the people there were drunk and out of control.  Two men down a couple of rows were about to get into a fight and already more and more people were starting to get involved.  As luck would have it a security guard came by and managed to get things under control.
Drunk people were walking around bumping into others and weren't even aware where they were walking.   I lost count of how many times I heard the F word, and when I went to the ladies room two women were being sick.  I have never before seen so many people out of control drunk.  It was sad, depressing and a bit scary to see.
I really did try to enjoy the music, but it was so LOUD that I could hardly understand any of the words.
I mostly watched people and just couldn't believe what I was seeing.  One part I really did enjoy was watching the different women who stood there signing the words of the songs.  I was fascinated watching them sign and wishing I could understand what they were signing.
It wasn't too bad leaving since we had parked so far away we didn't have as much traffic to get through.
I was glad to be safely home and don't think I'll being doing that again.
I  much prefer the smaller venue when we go to Rams Head Live.  We are going there in a few months to see Blood, Sweat, and Tears.  Now that I look forward too. : )

Yesterday, Sunday was such a nice day.  I never took my morning walk and I played hooky and didn't go to church either.  We slept in a little bit and then after breakfast we got in the FJ and headed out to Harpers Ferry, West Virginia for the day.  It is only about an hour away.  What a lovely time we had walking around town.

We also walked on some paths down by the water.

Stopped by the train station and watched a freight train pass by.
We had lunch on a deck of a restaurant.
Our table was at the railings edge,
under the fourth umbrella from the right.
It was just a great day and we enjoyed the time together.
The day wasn't over yet though.
For supper we decided to go to a Mexican restaurant that we like because they have the best chili there and we each got a bowl.  We chose to eat outside on the patio and there we were entertained by a trio of singers with guitars. (Mike, Bobby and Deb.) We liked them so much we stayed there on the patio until they were finished singing.  I went up to tell them how much we enjoyed their singing and got their website address.  We plan to go hear them again when they play in other places around here.  What a pleasant surprise.  We enjoyed that so better than seeing Kenny Chesley the night before.  Funny thing their daughter was at the concert the night before too.

This weekend had a lot packed into it and a few times Ken mentioned that it felt like we were on vacation.  We now refer to this weekend as the vacation weekend.

So now here it is Monday and back to the every day routine.  Got some cleaning done and then dropped in at the library again.  I had a book waiting there for me to pick up called Major Pettigrew's Last Stand by Helen Simonson recommended to me by Cheryl.  Another book caught my eye and I picked that up too.

The book I got last week, Code to Zero by Ken Follett, I've read only 12 pages of it and like it already.  Told Ken that I thought he would like it and he is now reading it.  I'll read the rest of it when he gets done.  He's already more than have finished.

Its just after lunch now and I have a bit more to do around the house. Then hopefully I'll have some time to sit down and read.  Also would like to make a few more weave-it squares.

Hope you are enjoying your Monday.
Have a happy day.

I love the place;
the magnificent books;
I require books as I require air.

$50 to park and you still had to walk a mile?!?
That's awful. That whole evening sounded pretty awful. I'd much rather attend the concert at the Mexican restaurant. Sounds much more my speed.
Glad you still managed to have a nice weekend despite the concert.

You did have a busy weekend! I enjoyed all the photos you posted. Too bad about the drunken ruckus at the concert - not my kind of venue either.

I haven't been to many concerts in my life. Even though we have a concert venue, near by. (Sadly, it began as a summer home for the NYC Ballet and Philadelphia Orchestra, but those things just don't bring in enough money... And the *concerts* have nearly taken over.)

Anyway, I fully believe you, about the drunk and disorderly stuff. -sigh- As you probably know, I'm a fan of "Band Of Horses." In following a fan blog of theirs, I've seen videos of way too much drunkenness, at their concerts. And the stupid behaviour which goes with it. :-(((((((

And it sickens me.

I'd love to have the opportunity to see "BoH" play live! LOVE TO. Never will. And to think that these young people, who can go see them, HAVE to get drunk and yucky, when they go. Well, it makes me more than mad. I haven't been to that blog, or seen videos of their tours, in quite a while. Bleahhh... I can listen to CD's and not have to see stupid people, look stupid, at live shows. :-(

Oooops, sorry for the rant. But you touched a nerve. :-)

My goodness, you really did have a busy weekend! Harpers Ferry was one of the places I used to take my mom when I moved back to Delaware. It was a little bit of a drive, but she loved it.

I stopped attending live concerts for big stars a while ago...I don't go for anything bigger than the little American Music Theater in Lancaster or the small venues in Wilmington. If it has to be held in Philly or Baltimore, it probably too big for my taste!

I guess concerts never change. I remember 30 years ago at the Capitol Centre in Largo, Maryland, same actions and sights as you described, minus the people signing the songs. I think if the venue were different, you might like some country music, which is more like pop music I think. Blood, Sweat & Tears will be amazing, I'm sure. Love Harper's Ferry!! Again, it's been many years since I've been there, I think it was 1991, goodness, 20 years ago? So beautiful and preserved, where WV, MD, & VA come together, lots of history too.

What a shame that the concert was such a let-down. I would find all that you described very depressing, too, including the $50 for parking. Glad that things were looking up on Sunday. What a beautiful-sounding day all the way around.

Your weekend sounded great, except for the concert. Wow! I'm so glad I didn't go. I only like small venues too. I've never been to Ram's Head Live, but I'd like to. You and Ken seem to have so much fun. I love how you just get up and Go!
