Each morning when I open my eyes I say to myself;
I, not events, have the power to make me happy or unhappy today.
I can choose which it shall be. Yesterday is dead, tomorrow hasn’t arrived yet.
I have just one day, today, and I’m going to be happy in it.
~Groucho Marx

This is the day which the Lord hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.

A walk in the park

I didn't go on my usual morning walk yesterday.  Ken took a vacation day and after a pancake breakfast we went to a park about 10 miles from home to take a hike around the park.
Here is the entrance to the park.
It was a perfect morning for a hike with with lots of sunshine and temperatures in the low 60's when we started out.  Since it was a weekday and early morning we had the park pretty much to ourselves.  We only saw a handful of people the whole time we were there.
We hiked along grassy trails.
And up dirt trails.  That's Ken up ahead of me.
 We walked along the river
 and up steps.
Sometimes the trail got a bit rocky and we walked across huge rocks.
 Came to some rapids
and this wide spot in the river which formed a pool.  You can see Ken on the right taking a picture.
This picture Ken took of me walking along sand.
I really enjoyed this hike around the park and it was especially nice because Ken came along with me.  We hiked for about two and half hours and went a little over 5 miles.  It was nice to be in nature, hearing the birds and the water babbling in the river as we hiked.  I am so glad we went here and look forward to going back again another time.  There are many parks where we live and I'd like to go exploring some more of them with Ken.

Ken did the cooking for supper last night and we had sausage, onions and peppers.  This is one of my favorite meals.  I know sausage isn't that good for you but once in a while you just have to eat something you really love even if it is bad for you!! : )
Here is the hot Italian sausage cooking,
and here's the onions and peppers.
I like to eat mine plain
But Ken likes to put his on a roll with some tomato sauce.
Anyway you eat it, it is delicious.

After supper we once again sat outside on the deck for a while reading.  Then we took a drive over to Rita's and ended the day with a Gelati.  We both had chocolate ice cream with cherry ice.  The perfect ending to one great day. : )

Hope your day was a great one too.
Happyone : )

  1. That supper looks delicious. I wouldn't worry about whether or not it is good to me -- I'm mainly interested in the way it would taste.
Thanks for taking us along with you on your hike in the park.

  2. Hi Happy One, Glad Blogger is BACK.... I lost some posts though --and had to republish them. Grrrrr...

Looks like you two had a fabulous breakfast and dinner --and an even better hike... How beautiful...

    Have a wonderful weekend.

  3. What a sweet day! That pool looks so inviting that I'd have been tempted to hop in. (I'm sure that I'd have been too hot after walking five miles.)

  4. Now that looks like a great day all around. The park has a lot of interesting features.
I often make the sausage dinner too, however I've switched to Italian turkey sausage to cut back on fat.
    Have a nice weekend.

  5. McKeldin is where we used to have our yearly faculty picnics. Isn't it lovely??

Yes, Italian sausage is scrumptious and somehow soy 'sausage' doesn't quite come close. :)

Hello my friend.
Thanks for stopping by.
I'm hoping you will leave a comment.
Thanks. : )
