Walking is the perfect way of moving if you want to see into the life of things. It is the one way of freedom. If you go to a place on anything but your own feet you are taken there too fast, and miss a thousand delicate joys that were waiting for you by the wayside. Elizabeth von Arnim

A walk, some bottles and Suzy

Looked out the window when I got up and it looked wet outside but it didn't look like it was raining so I just put on my regular walking clothes.  Went out through the garage because my umbrella was down there and picked that up on the way out. When I stepped outside I realized it was misting.  So I walked around to the front and went back in the house and put on my rain pants and slicker and left the umbrella at home.  It misted most of the time, but I did walk through a couple of downpours.  Glad I went back for the rain clothes.  I stayed walking on the sidewalks and walked down Gray Rock and back home.  I only saw one runner.  A couple of kids were actually standing on the corner in the rain waiting for the bus.  Most were waiting in cars!!
Didn't see much in the way of wildlife though I did hear the birds.
It would have been nice to walk in the sun but then again it was nice to listen to the rain on my hood.  It is such a calming sound.  I enjoyed my walk in the rain.
The temperature was 47 and I walked 6.4 miles.

I live in a three level townhouse and in each of the stairways there is a window.  This window is in the stairway off the kitchen going down the stairs to the basement and the garage.  I have a couple of cactus plants and some bottles on the window sill.
Today I dusted the sill, washed the window and added these silk flowers to the bottles.
I've done these before with bottles over the sink in the kitchen.

Suzy
Cookie had been gone a couple of years and then when I was 12, my second childhood dog Suzy came into my life.  She was a German shepherd.  My childhood friends (who I've kept in touch with), Janie and Patty lived next door to me.  Their dad was a state trooper and  people would bring lost or stray dogs to the barracks where he worked once in a while.  One day he came home from  work with a three month old German shepherd puppy.  At first Janie and Patty were going to keep her and named her Princess.  Things didn't work out there and they ended up giving her to us.  My dad and I fell in love with her right away and I changed her name to Suzy.  Janie and Patty didn't like that I changed her name so I said her name would be Princess Suzanne and we would call her Suzy for short.  My mom didn't want her at first and Suzy had to stay in the basement for the first few days, but soon my mom came around and Suzy become part of our family.  She was friendly and gentle around the family but she DID NOT like men.  We had six and half happy years with her.
My mom and dad got divorced when I was 18 and when he left Suzy moped around the house and acted sick.  We thought she was just missing my dad and would get over it.  Finally my mom took her to the vet, but not the vet we usually go to.  He too said she was just missing my dad.  That didn't seem right though because she was not getting any better.  Then very early one morning I woke up and heard Suzy making some awful sounds and having trouble breathing.  I called my mom at work,  she worked at the post office and went in really early like at 3:00, and she came home.  My future step-dad came  with her too and they both took Suzy back to the vet, this time to our regular one.  Turns out that she really was sick with pneumonia.  Poor Suzy died at the vets and never did get to come home again.  It was so sad, but she had a good happy life and was loved.  She was 6 1/2 years old.  I'm thinking Suzy and Cookie met up with each other.

The weather is supposed to clear up but so far it just isn't happening.  Another good day for being at home.  I'll get a little house work done and then I'm headed up to the loft to make some weave-it squares for the afghan I'm making.

Hope all is well in you part of the world.
A smile from me to you.

I like the addition of flowers to your blue bottles. It looks so cheerful.
Princess Suzanne seems like a very nice compromise on the dog's name. It sure was sad to read about what happened to her.

You sure were a diplomat...Princess Suzanne and all... And you have the saddest pet stories, but I guess that we all do when we get to the final goodbyes.

It's rainy and about 47F here today, too. I didn't go walking in the rain this morning, but I did take pictures in the mist.

I love your windowsill with the cheery blue bottles and bright blossoms. It looks beautifully springy.

Such a pretty little Spring touch, at the window. I should get some silk flowers and do something like this. Because we never can have real flowers in the house, with our allergies. -moan- But I could have silk ones!

Your neighbor friends father was a State Trooper. And they named the dog 'Princess.' :-) My father was a State Trooper and he came home with the runt of a litter of Dohberman Pinchers [spelling???], and named her 'Princess.' She was totally his dog, but was fine with my mother and I also.

Love the flowers in the bottles! How kind of you to compromise with the Princess Suzanne :)
Sounds like you had some wonderful years with her :)

I love how you seem to be able to rise above the things that finally did me in last month. Living in my childhood home in Indiana, I just couldn't take another gloomy day, in the same house that most people would cherish. In 12 hours, I'd driven 800 miles and bought a house in Florida.

Our thoughts can make a mansion out of a cardboard box, and a cardboard box out of a mansion.

I'm glad I found your site.

I love bottles and I love the flowers you added to yours. So sorry about Suzy. She was a very pretty dog. Childhood pets come to my mind sometimes. I to still miss them. I hope the weather clears . We are going to get bad weather Thurs. evening . We do need the rain but not the bad weather that comes with it sometimes. And Thank you Again for being such a great friend.

When I saw it raining this morning, I hoped you wouldn't be out in it. You must have built up an immunity to colds. Thanks for the introduction to Suzy, what a pretty dog. I'm sure her and Cookie are running through the clouds in Heaven having a good ol time. We always had dogs growing up. I haven't had a dog in about 15 years and miss having one. Initially, John didn't want one, he is alergic. When I talked about considering a breed that doesn't shed, he says he still doesn't want the responsibility or cost. His collie died when he was in high school. He told me that he never wants another dog. It's a subject I don't mention anymore, I remain petless :( I'm glad you mentioned the flowers were silk, tis the pickin season (for flowers), they fit perfectly on your ledge. We have some sun coming tomorrow and back to the rain on Saturday with sun back Sunday....one of these days we'll get on a sunny roll.

Hi Happy One, Sounds like you did the right thing by wearing your rain gear on that walk...

Love your little flowers on the stair landing leading to the basement... The flowers add alot to that location.

Both Suzy and Cookie must have been awesome pets... And--as you said, they probably met up with each other in Doggie Heaven.
Hugs,
Betsy

Good to be back and to catch up with things. My sister had a beautiful German Shepherd which she had to let go at the Vet's last week. She'd had him for about 15 years, so I understand the sadness there. We've had our share of dogs too but have none at the moment because of our travels. Blessings to you today!
