Each morning when I open my eyes I say to myself;
I, not events, have the power to make me happy or unhappy today.
I can choose which it shall be. Yesterday is dead, tomorrow hasn’t arrived yet.
I have just one day, today, and I’m going to be happy in it.

My new shoes : (

The morning started out warm with a temperature of 62 degrees. At the start of my walk there was some fog around but it burned off quickly and my walk was nice and sunny.
I got a new pair of walking shoes on Saturday.  I have been wearing New Balance walking shoes for years, but just couldn't find a pair that felt good this time.  I tried on a pair of Nike and they felt great - very light with good padding inside.
So this morning I was all excited to be wearing my brand new pair of shoes.  I walked about a mile and knew these were not good walking shoes for me.  I could feel my left heal rubbing, and another half mile I could feel a hot spot which meant I was going to get a blister.  I was walking around the lake and was about a quarter of the way around and took the path to the main road and came back home.  Just coming up to the main road a couple of trees lay across the path here, being blown down from last nights storm.
By the time I got home, sure enough I had a blister on the back of my left heal.  I had only walked a little over three miles.  I put one of these band-aids on for blisters on my heal,
put on my old walking shoes and was out the door again.  My walk continued as I walked along a couple of paths through the neighborhood.  A lot of people were out this morning by the lake and on the second part of my walk.  I saw lots of birds and a few rabbits.
When I walked passed a neighborhood of townhouses I found a nickel between two parked cars waiting for me to pick it up.
I was home after walking a little over three miles this time too, so walked a total of 6.6 miles.  My heal was just fine for the rest of the way with the band-aid and my old shoes.

I never did walk yesterday morning but I got a good amount of exercise doing yard work at the old house.  We left early morning and I spent four hours doing heavy yard work with a bit of help from Ken.  He is getting things ready for a yard sale he hopes to have some week in the near future at the house.  When we lived there I had the front yard looking really nice with lots of gardens, with rock paths and stone walls.  It was a lot to keep up but I enjoyed it and would work in the yard most days.  Now that we don't live there I just can't keep up with it.  So I am in the process of taking the gardens out, moving the rock and stone to the back of the yard and just making it easier in the long run to take care of.  I just want to be able to go over there and mow and trim and be done with it quickly.  We have let the yard go and it looks really bad.  Four hours have just put a dent in the work.  But with the nice weather coming up it, I should be able to get it all done. We have no plans to sell the house yet.  Ken loves the huge garage we have there and he has a work shop out back too.  We will sell the house one day when the prices decide to go back up.

I finally got outside today and washed my very dirty car and now she's looking good again.  No car washes for my car - I like to wash it myself. : )

Such a pretty sunny day out so far.  I ate lunch out on the deck and now I have to get some work done in the house.  I'll be out on the deck again later though.

A happy day to you on this fine Monday.
Happyone : )
Rest is not idleness,
and to lie sometimes on the grass under trees
on a summer's day,
listening to the murmur of the water,
or watching the clouds float across the sky,
is by no means a waste of time.

  1. I've had such good luck with my NB sneakers...same ones I was wearing when we met...I don't wear mine out as quickly as you must. Do you have a NB outlet in your corner? We have one here a few miles away. Too bad I couldn't pick you up a pair, but that's something you really have to test out for yourself. Good to know that there is such a thing as bandaids for blisters. I read somewhere that if there's any question that one could get a blister because of new shoes, to slather some vaseline on your heels in advance. Never have tried it, though.

    Car's looking great!

  2. It seems like you can never really tell how comfortable a pair of shoes is until you walk around in them for awhile.
I remember your gardens at the old house. When I first discovered your blog, you were still living there and your flowers were beautiful. It doesn't take long for things to become overgrown. It's neverending it seems. Hopefully the housing market will get back on track before too long.
Enjoy the rest of your Monday.

  3. I'm sorry about the new shoes. That rots. :-(

Wow, glad no one was under those trees when they came down! Well, naturally, no one would be walking on a path, in the middle of a storm! -chuckle-

No wonder you are in no great hurry to sell the house. Bet he misses that work shop. My husband has to have some sort of a work shop. That's one of the reasons we've never moved. Well, there are lots of reasons but... That is certainly one of them. It's hard to get a place for a work shop, in many living arrangements.

Sounds like your weather is nicer than ours today. Enjoy.

  4. Sorry about your new shoes. Nothing beats comfy old shoes. What do you think about those new shoes that are surpose to make your bottom shape up? I don't think I would like them. Good luck with the yard work . It is pouring here for the 3 or 4th day in a roll. Bring on the sun!!!!

  5. Holy Cow, Happy One... I had no idea that both you and hubby have a Corvette... WOW--I'm impressed.

It's hard to find good shoes to walk in... Sometimes, even the same shoe and same brand doesn't feel the same as the old pair.... Hope you find some which feel good on your feet since you do so much walking.

Sounds like you did lots of work at the old house this weekend. I certainly count my yardwork as exercise....

    Hugs,
    Betsy

  6. I'm like you, stick with what you like and what likes you. I got a pair of $100 tennis shoes (I didn't buy them, I won them, another story), they're Nike. I haven't tried them out yet. I may take Vee's advice with the vaseline and yours with the Bandaids with me when I try them out. Hope you are able to return yours sneakers. I presume you have renters in your old house. They must love having the landlord clean up the yard. It just got too hot for me today. We're suppose to cool off after Wednesday. Summer can't be here already.

  7. I have a hard enough time keeping up with the yard where we live, so I can imagine how much harder it is to do when you don't live in the house any more.
Sorry to hear about your new shoes causing a blister. Once I find a pair of comfortable shoes I tend to keep them until they fall apart.

  8. I have been wearing NB for a long time and have had good luck, I tried Nike, but had the same problem you did.
I am glad it's getting warmer there for you.
    Just adore your red Corvette.

  9. Maybe you should break them in gradually??? Nothing is worse than hurting feet!
Having two houses to maintain is a lot of work! But you seem to enjoy it.

  10. Do you have luck with your yard sales? We have so much to sell of my parents. Let me know, ok?
