Walking is the perfect way of moving if you want to see into the life of things. It is the one way of freedom. If you go to a place on anything but your own feet you are taken there too fast, and miss a thousand delicate joys that were waiting for you by the wayside. Elizabeth von Arnim

Baking Day

A sunny but chilly morning as I made my way around the lake.  Instead of posting a still photo from my walk this morning, for something different I took a short video while walking along the path around the lake.

I was surprised to see as many people as I did out today, but then again maybe a lot of them are trying to use up some of those extra calories that will be eaten tomorrow!
I saw the heron again walking at the edge of the water looking for breakfast.  I spotted five deer among the trees off the upper path.  One was big with a huge rack.  He looked
majestic.
Walking past the Giant for the second day in a row I smelled of all things tomato soup.  Strange I know, but that is what I smelled. :-)
I walked 6.6 miles.

Giving Thanks Day Number 24
I am thankful for my good health.
For the physical ability that allows me to
walk for miles every day.
For eyes to see and appreciate all things around me.
For ears to hear all the beautiful sounds
and to hear someone say
I love you.
I am blessed with good health. (So far anyway!!)

Ken and I will be having a quiet Thanksgiving with just the two of us but I am cooking a turkey with all the trimmings.
Today I've spent the morning in the kitchen baking and it smells delicious in here.  I made pumpkin bread and a pumpkin pie, including the crust from scratch.  Making the crust I thought of the first time I tried to make crust when I was about 16 or so.  I followed the recipe, rolled it all out and thought I was doing quite well.  Then came the time to take it off the counter and put it in the pie plate.  It would not come up off the counter.  I had not used enough flour and hadn't picked it up and turned it while rolling it out.  I was so frustrated that I scraped it off the counter and threw the whole mess at the wall.  Then I had to spend time cleaning it up before my mother came home and saw it.  I never did make a pie that day.  My gramma finally was the one who showed and told me how to make a good, flaky crust.  I am happy to say that my crust came out very good today and didn't end up on the wall!!
While in the kitchen I listened to the start of a video book, The Colorado Kid by Stephen King.  It's a pretty short one with only 4 discs and I've listened to half of it.

A nice sunny, but chilly and breezy day and I decided to get some laundry done and hung up outside.  My fingers were freezing.  I did three loads and used up all the line space.

The pumpkin pie is about to come out of the oven and then I'm going to have some lunch. I have some cleaning to finish, computer work to do, a clean up around my computer,  and then like most afternoons I'm hoping to spend time reading or knitting.

A smile from me to you.
Happyone :-)
Give thanks to the Lord,
for He is good;
His love endures forever.

Thanks for the good Thanksgiving wishes! I wish the same for you and Ken. Hmmmm, I know that if your home smells as good as mine with the pumpkin pie fresh from the oven...it smells wonderful indeed. I laughed about your pie crust adventure. Thank goodness we had a hungry collie when I was learning to bake. He got a lot of mistakes. Sometimes he wouldn't eat them, though. Imagine that! You sure keep a brisk pace...

I enjoyed your walk...Thanks for stopping by my blog. You'll love the pumpkin muffins!!! I'm baking a plum cake tonight that actually has 2 jars of baby food plums in it. It's wonderful! I'm also making a spiced pumpkin cheesecake with a ginger snap cookie crust. Happy Thanksgiving to you!!!

I loved your movie of the walk. I will have to try that too. I have a movie option on my camera but never experimented with it. What a great idea.

All your food sounds great.

A wonderful thanksgiving to you, Happy One.

Thankful that we are friends.

I've never made a rolled crust. Maybe you could teach me? I'd like to know, but have been too afraid to try. I make pies, but ones with pressed crusts.

Wish I could have spent the day baking instead of working. It's been a hard work week, but it's over.

Enjoy your day tomorrow. I hope it's special.

I enjoyed your video. Gee, I wish I could walk like that. I just gimp around but I'm proud to be able to do that.

Pie crust isn't the easiest thing to make from scratch. It takes a while but when you finally learn it's simple. I know your pie is wonderful.

I hope you and Ken have a wonderful day. Harry and I will spend our day being thankful and holding hands.

Sounds like a wonderful relaxing day! I'll be making my pie crust in the morning--somehow it always ends up too tough and thick--maybe I need a new recipe! lol
Have a wonderful, blessed Thanksgiving!
P.S. No shopping for me on Black Friday! I'm not braving those crowds either!

I'm laughing at the story of your first attempt at pie crust making. It sounds like you have come a long way and you have lots of yummy treats waiting for you and Ken tomorrow.
I wish you both a very Happy Thanksgiving.
By the way, I enjoyed your walking video.
