Walking is the perfect way of moving if you want to see into the life of things. It is the one way of freedom. If you go to a place on anything but your own feet you are taken there too fast, and miss a thousand delicate joys that were waiting for you by the wayside. Elizabeth von Arnim

The forgotten ingredient

 Sunrise 6:36
Sunset 7:38
A nice cool morning again for walking though it did heat up once again later in the day.  I walked my connect the path route and went just a bit over 6 miles.  It was nice walking along the paths where it is so quiet and listening to the birds.  Makes quite a contrast from walking the sidewalks with all the cars and school buses.  But I don't really care  where I walk as long as I can walk! :-)

I have started wearing my pedometer all day!  Today I start a competition on Walker Tracker which lasts a week.  There are I think 21 people participating in it.  My goal is to be number one but I'll be happy if I'm in the top 5. :-)

I went to the commissary today.  On the way there I realized that it was the first of the month and thought that it would be crowded.  Happy to say it wasn't and it didn't take long to get all my groceries.  A couple of places there was road work being done.  It is a pain sometimes driving where the work is being done, but where I live in Maryland they keep the roads in very good condition.  I snapped a picture in the parking lot of the commissary.  I talk about it a lot so thought I'd show it to you. I took the picture near my car.  I park away from the other cars so I don't my doors dinged.

This afternoon I bake an Apple Cobbler with those apples I bought on Saturday.  This handy dandy apple corer and peeler that I have made easy work of the 6 apples I needed to use.
I was going to have some for my snack tonight but Ken called at 5:30 to say he had to work late so I ate a piece then.  That is when I realized that I forgot to add the cornstarch to the filling to thicken it up so it did not turn out so good so I didn't even finish it.  I'm not cooking dinner because I don't know when he'll be getting home.  I'll just wait till he gets home (if it isn't too late) and we can run out and pick up a quick bite.

I think I'll go and read for a while now.  Haven't had time for that yet today.  Every so often I'll get up and walk around the house to get more steps. :-) Right now I'm at 18,636.

A happy Wednesday to you!
Happyone :-)

Ain't that the truth?! What's with the log? High winds in your area from Hurricane Earl? Oh, you'll be number 1 all right! Those poor participants don't have a chance!

Over 18000 steps! Great! (And here I sit with a paltry 8087.
but, Scarlet, tomorrow is another day!)

I was feeling pretty good about my almost 6,000 steps until I read your whopping 18000! But, being a beginner I am happy with what I have accomplished. It's better than nothing!

Wow, that's a lot of steps. I wouldn't be a bit surprised to hear that you came in first.
Apple cobbler sounds so good right now. Actually just about anything with apples in sounds good.

The commissary. Also called the PX?

When my husband got called up in the Berlin Crisis, I got groceries in a commissary. Memories. But not good ones, for me. Had to go live back in my childhood home with a small child and it wasn't what I wanted to do, then.

But life went on...

AuntA, the commissary is food, the PX or the Exchange as the Navy calls it, is like a department store. My husband spent 20 years in the Navy.
