Walking is the perfect way of moving if you want to see into the life of things. It is the one way of freedom. If you go to a place on anything but your own feet you are taken there too fast, and miss a thousand delicate joys that were waiting for you by the wayside. Elizabeth von Arnim

Five pennies and ice cream

I started off the week and the month of December by walking 6 miles under cloudy skies but with a mild temperature of 48 degrees. I picked up 5 lucky pennies that I found along the way too. A good start to the day. By the time I left for Meals on Wheels the sun was trying to come out and it did make it through the big billowy white and gray clouds some of the time while I was out. All of my eight people were fine and happy today. They all are so thankful to have these meals and a little visit. Some of these people really have a rough time of it and they all greet me with a smile. I feel lucky to know them and to be a small part of their lives. Once home I had the last of the left overs from Thanksgiving for lunch - thank goodness!! In the afternoon it got real dark, rained, hailed and then the sun and clouds came back.
I finished reading Sundays at Tiffany's by James Patterson.
Did you have an imaginary friend when you were a kid? Jane did - hers was Michael and when she was 9 he told her he had to move on to another child who needed him. But she never forgot him. As with all James Patterson's books there are some twists and turns in this different kind of love story. I thought it was good read and hard to put down. When Ken came home from work we went out and did a few errands and of course stopped at the townhouse and I took these pictures. I love how it looks with the brick up and can't wait to see it with the red shutters. I am so excited to think that we will be living here next month!!
The brick on the side is done.
The little copper roof over the living room windows is up.
Our row
I am looking forward to having some ice cream in a little while. I am having chocolate with a little twist to it. Ken bought some hard shell and we are going to make layers of ice cream and hard shell. As you most of you know by now chocolate chip is my favorite, though I wish I could find chocolate chocolate chip. I have never seen that flavor before and wonder if anyone has come across it? I can't believe that kind of ice cream doesn't exist. Anyway that is where the hard shell comes in - we are going to make our own flavor. I plan on knitting some on Nola's afghan, reading and maybe watching something from Netflix. We can now pick out some movies to watch right on the computer without having to have them mailed to us. Everything isn't available but it's good to have something to watch in between mailings. That's about it for today. So far it's been a good and happy Monday. Hope yours has been a Happy One too.

I've never heard of hard shell. YOu've got me wondering what it is.
My favorite ice cream is mint chocolate chip. It does look like there would be a chocolate chocolate chip. Sounds delicious!

A very full Monday! The red shutters should really make the house 'pop'.
I love ice cream. We make a chocolate-Mexican ice cream that has cinnamon in it. It's really good. Soft Stuff, up on Route 40, opens again in March or April. Their ice cream is the best.
I just finished reading A STRANGER'S HOUSE by Bret Lott; not his best work. Patterson's book sounds interesting -- not his usual genre. Am reading two Susan Miller books right now. Quite good.

I was looking at the pic of the townhouse and wondered if you might have enough pics to put together a slide show of it being built like one of those stop motion films - might be fun to put together.

Dot - hard shell is chocolate syrup that hardens when out of the bottle.

That's a great idea Brad. I'll do that when the house is finished on the outside.

Hey Dot that is my favorite too but I guess hard shell is also tasty, never heard of it. The doctor told me to take less sugar and he said 1 chocolate each week is Ok. One chocolate can you imagine that, I thought he said "LESS", my world has collapsed. But sometimes I take a small icecream.
The house is almost finished and it looks wonderful. When can you move?

Hard to believe it will be ready so soon. It always seemed like the inside stuff too forever. Have you gotten a peek inside lately?

I really like that hard shell stuff and was surprised to read the post after this where you said that you didn't care for it after all.

The townhouse looks great! Really, really great! What an ongoing source of excitement as you see progress at every turn.

Just because its raining and I don't want to start my house work I googled chocolate chocolate chip ice cream and apart from various recipes I see that Hagen Daz do that flavour.Myself I prefer vanilla or cornish icecream with maple or toffe sauce. Here in North Devon there is a small firm that makes real ice cream with cream that is simply delicious. You can only buy Hockins ice cream from their vans which are parked in local seaside resorts during the summer. It has been interesting watching your house being built. Here in the UK houses are built from the outside in, starting with solid block walls with the wooden joists and roof timbers being fitted into the block walls and then maybe an outer skin of brickwork or cement finish (rarely wood) and then the internal plaster boards wiring etc.

It sounds as if you had a wonderful Monday. My favorite ice cream is chocolate chip cookie dough. That would brighten any day!
