A snowy walk

Left an hour later this morning than usual.  It was 28 degrees and just starting to snow as I left the house with my 'ice walkers' on my shoes. Didn't really need them at first but soon the snow was coming down harder and covering up the icy spots, so I'm glad I had them on again.

I walked around town for the most part but also walked up Barn Sale Rd.

Up on the left some cows gather around the hay for breakfast.  They don't seem to mind the snow.

Walking back on the main road to town a snow plow goes by.

Now I'm coming into town again.

I turned left at the church which takes me to the couple of cemeteries and then down to the Drane house where my horse friends live at the farm down that way.  This one was on his way to the barn and when he saw me he turned around and came to say hi.  I talked to him and petted him for a bit.

I met one of the school bus drivers.  Walking up the road to the cemetery, I saw a woman up on top of the hood of the bus doing something to the windshield.  I called, "Good morning" to her and laughingly said, "I guess you have to get up there to clean the window somehow."  She climbed down and told me she was fixing the windshield wiper.  Her name is Janet and she is one of the bus drivers that waves to me.  We talked for a bit and then off she went off in her bus. 

I don't know why I ever thought I didn't like snow, but I sure like it now.  It's fun to walk in it.  Very peaceful and everything is so pretty.

I walked 6.1 miles - 12,311 steps.

Stayed around home today.  Looked out of the window a lot watching the snow come down.  It's been snowing all day but only another few inches.

I've been reading trying to get my book done for tomorrows book club.  I'll have no trouble finishing it.  It is an easy read and very good.  Hope it ends good too.

Now, I feel like doing a little cross stitch so off I go to do that before it's time to think about supper.

Walking on ice and our Christmas Tree

It was 30 degrees, icy, snowy and slushy outside with a mist falling.  I started out walking to the library and dropped a book in the book drop.   Then I had a random walk around town.
I saw Dave and his dog Saber out and she ran over to say hi to me.
Didn't see anyone else out.

I didn't see any animals but I did see rabbit, deer and bird prints so they were out there, I just couldn't see them.

 Normally it would be a day that I wouldn't walk.  BUT,  I now can walk in icy weather too.  : )
Ken bought me these spring like things that fit over the bottom of your shoes.  I tried them out today.  I had planned on just walking a mile or two to check them out, but they worked GREAT and I ended up walking my regular 6 miles.  These things are fantastic!!  I walked on lots of icy places and no slippage at all.  I am so excited to have these.  I should have tried them years ago. 
Now I just have to buy some kind of boots that are good walking ones so my feet will stay dry in the snow.

I walked 6.1 miles - 12,222 steps.

Stayed around home in the morning and then after lunch we went out and got our Christmas tree.  We went to a place where you could cut your own tree but they had some that were already cut.  We planned on cutting our own but then I saw the perfect tree already cut yesterday so we picked that one.  The ones in the picture are bigger than the ours.  We got a 5 foot one.

Here it is in the back of the truck ready to go home.

When we got home we put it in the stand and then just put the angel on top and strung blue and red lights.  And here it sits on the round table in front of the picture window.

I like to set up the tree slowly.  Tomorrow will be the ornaments and then the next day the tinsel.  It is so much more enjoyable for me doing it slow.

I've made lasagna for supper (meatless) and it is just about done so off I go to set the table. 

That's my day so far.

Glad to have gotten my walk in before the snow and ice came.  

It was a snowy ride to church.

The church bus picks up kids and brings them to and from church.  Today the bus picked them up but then it was decided that the roads were getting worse and it was safer to bring the kids home in 4 wheel drive vehicles.  So we dropped three kids off home on our way home.

We had lunch at Brenda's.  No pizza.  I had a salad and Ken a sandwich.

On the way home we saw a Camaro having trouble driving in the snow.  So Ken pulled over to help.  Someone else stopped too and here they are trying to get the car going up the hill.  Oh yeah and they were almost out of gas.

They got it going for a while but got stuck again a little farther along.  We ended up towing them a couple miles up the road to a gas station.  They were some kids trying to get back home to Washington, DC.   

It's nice to be home safe and sound now in a nice warm house.

Cookie Day

I didn't get to walk this morning.  It got cold and all the rain from yesterday froze and then we got a dusting of snow.  As you know I don't walk in ice.  Here's a picture I took on my front porch.  I zoomed in on the mountain.

It was cookie sale day at the Drane house.

Lots of delicious looking cookies and yes we did buy some.

My Welsh Cookies were just about gone when we got there. Bought some of the competition Chocolate Chip cookies and Ken says they don't compare to mine.

There was a fire going inside the house which kept things nice and cozy.

There was also hot cider and some free cookies to eat too. 

Left there and went up to Happy Trails to pick up the Christmas tree stand and a few other things to bring back to the house.  While there I walked around a little bit to get some steps in for the day.  Didn't get our tree yet because the weather isn't so nice for cutting it down. 

Back at home, a few times I put on my walking shoes and went down in the basement and walked around the loop down there.  My goal is to get at least 13,000 steps a day in and I made it by walking a mile at a time down in the basement.  It is pretty boring but it's better than walking on a treadmill.  

For my snack tonight I'm going to pick out a few cookies from the sale and eat them with a glass of milk.  Which I'm going to do right now.

Friday

It was a rainy walk for me this morning.  44 degrees, some wind with the temperature  on the way down and when I got home it was 35.  I wore Ken's rain pants again and had my umbrella too.
We are supposed to get some snow over night and here are the towns three big snow plows ready to go. 

I had a random walk around town.  Didn't see any people out but I did saw a couple of rabbits.

Remember when I saw the start of what I thought was going to be a garage in a yard I walked by?  Well, it is a 2 car garage and it's already been framed out.  Workers were getting there today as I walked by.  I guess a little rain isn't going to stand in their way.  I was glad I was on my way home to a warm and dry house.

When I first started walking I thought I'd cut my walk short because I was getting wet feet early on but my walk seemed to go fast and before I knew it I had walked 4 miles.  Then I thought only 2 more to go I might as well keep going.

I walked 6.1 miles - 11,902 steps.

We left mid morning to go to Walmart to do a little shopping.  We did food shopping and also picked up a few more Christmas decorations. 

After lunch I worked on my counted cross stitch and before I knew it the afternoon was gone and I didn't get all that much done on it.

I'll get a little reading done this evening on my book club book.
