Walking is the perfect way of moving if you want to see into the life of things. It is the one way of freedom. If you go to a place on anything but your own feet you are taken there too fast, and miss a thousand delicate joys that were waiting for you by the wayside. Elizabeth von Arnim

The last few days

🌹     🌹     🌹
Early Monday morning we left in the truck and went up to New York
to see my mom in the nursing home.  It's a 10 hour drive so spent most of the
day getting there.  We met my step-brother Chris at Aunt Betty's house.
Aunt Betty was my step-dads sister and she died this past Oct and Chris
is getting the house ready to sell.  Anyway it was a good place for us to meet.
We then got back in the car and went up so see mom.
She can't walk now because of her broken hip but they have her on
pain medication and she has no pain.  She wasn't all doped up though and she knew
who we all were and we had a nice visit.
My moms heart is pretty bad and that is why they can't operate on her hip.
We were all surprised to see her doing as well as she is.

Back to Aunt Betty's house and we spent Monday night there.

This was the first day I didn't make my 15,017 step goal - only 3,067

Tuesday morning I went for a walk around the neighborhood at Aunt Betty's
house which is in Queensbury, NY.
Aunt Betty's House
It is a nice quiet place and I walked up and down many streets.
The weather was just like at home.  28 degrees and cloudy.
Happy to say I got in a 6.5 mile walk.
Mid morning we went back to see my mom and had another visit with her.
After a while she was ready for us to leave so we said our good-byes.

We went back to the house and stayed there for a while and then
went out to eat at the Olive Garden.
Spent Tuesday night there at the house.
🌹     🌹     🌹
Wednesday we got up and left to come back home.  So that was another day
spent in the truck getting home.
And that was day number two of not making my step goal.
Steps were 4,311

Today we are back home and I was looking forward to getting back to walking
around here but it was a very snowy, windy, cold morning so I had to get my
steps inside today.  This picture was taken out of the dining room window and the
top photo out of my office window.
In the afternoon for a little while the snow stopped.  Ken went out and
used the snow blower to clear the driveway and I went out and walked
around in the snow and shoveled places where the snow blower can't go.
Also filled up the bird feeder.
Then we went out to the store to get some food to make supper.
The roads were still mostly snow covered.
When we got back home the snow started again and it has been snowing
like crazy since.  I think it is supposed to stop sometime tonight but get
very cold.  I have a feeling I'll be getting my steps inside again tomorrow.

So that's been my last few days.
Hope to be around to visit you all but it may take me a few days
to get caught up.

A happy day to you.

How nice that you were able to visit with your mom and that she was in good spirits. Glad you made it there and back again safely. I'm hearing all kinds of weather warnings for the east today.

I'm glad that you and Ken were able to make the trip to NY to see your mom. I'm so glad that she was doing better than you expected her to be. That was a blessing!

Oh my...the snow! We have a good accumulation here today as well. I was talking with our mailman a bit this afternoon when he delivered a package for us. He said it wasn't a bad day, except for the times we'd have those white outs. We had several of those throughout the day. It looks like you did, too, from the picture.

Love your quote today!

Glad the Lord gave you guys a safe trip to and from and that you are back home now.

WoW! It's really coming down at your place.Makes for pretty pictures, but can also make driving a little tricky.

When I didn't see your blog, I thought you could be in New York. So glad you got in a good visit with your mom and your step-brother.
It's good to know that you're back home, safe and sound. MJ

It is hard to get steps when we are confined to a car or sitting with people. I am glad you are home safe!

Hi Karen, glad you are home safe and sound. Wonderful that you had two visits with your Mom and spent time with Chris.
We heard you were to get a snowstorm. Chuck's cousin Chaya in Connecticut ended up getting over a foot of snow. We are to have a bit of a storm tonight.
Have a good weekend!

Goodness you got it, too. Does that make everybody now? LOL

So glad that you were able to make the trip to see your mother. She sounds like quite a remarkable woman to be doing this well with a broken hip.

SO GLAD TO HEAR THAT YOU HAD A NICE VISIT WITH YOUR MOTHER AND THAT SHE WAS DOING BETTER THAN YOU HAD THOUGHT THAT SHE WOULD BE. I HOPE THAT SHE CONTINUES TO IMPROVE, ALTHOUGH A HIP FRACTURE WILL KEEP HER IN A WHEEL CHAIR. I HAVE SENT HER CARDS ON DIFFERENT OCCASIONS, I HOPE SHE ENJOYS THEM AS MUCH AS I DO SENDING THEM.
