Each morning when I open my eyes I say to myself;
I, not events, have the power to make me happy or unhappy today.
I can choose which it shall be. Yesterday is dead, tomorrow hasn’t arrived yet.
I have just one day, today, and I’m going to be happy in it.
~Groucho Marx

Barn Collective and the Tree

Linking up with Tom for the Barn Collective.
Didn't get a chance to get any more quilt barn pictures this week,
so here is a barn that is on one of my walking routes.
These picture are taken from the main road.
The picture HERE is the same barn but the picture is taken from the cemetery.
Hopefully next week I'll have another quilt square barn.

This morning the temperature was up again to 40 degrees.
I didn't get started till 7:00.
It started out cloudy.
But soon the sky looked like this.
And before long I saw blue sky and sun.
I walked on the roads behind my house first, then through town
and around one of the cemeteries, down toward Happy Trails
then back to town, around the second cemetery
and once again around town.

This building is just a block from my house.  Years ago it was a school.
Now there is a day care center in the building, a small gym for seniors,
(I've never checked it out but might this winter)
and a few apartments.
I found out that the attack dog lives in one of the apartments.
I saw the owner with him out there by the building.
I recognized the dog right away. She did have the dog on a leash
and I'm sure it was just a one time thing that the dog got out.
I almost went over to tell her about the other day,
but I didn't want to go by the dog.  It was already barking at me.

I was telling Kathy about it and she said she carries mace around with her
when she walks.  She showed me hers and I was surprised how small it was.
I never wanted to get it because I thought it would be a pain to carry it around but now I think I'm going to get myself some too.

Walked 6 miles.

Ken went out to do his Christmas shopping today.
While he was out I cleaned the front room and then put up
our Christmas tree.  It's is just a small one and I put it in the bay window.
Every year since we've been married Ken has painted a red Christmas ball
with the date and a little event about the year.
This year I just put them on the tree with lights.
Ken will paint ball number 44 this year.
I never know what he will put on the ball.
He always surprises me.

Finished puzzle number 3 yesterday afternoon.
There wasn't a box to look at the picture, just that little paper
with the picture of the puzzle.
There are 700 pieces.
I've started the next one already and it is real easy, just 300 pieces,
so it shouldn't take long to do.

Well that's it for today.
A happy day to you.

LD Diane - I've listed all the books I've read for this year so far on a Page that you can find right under my header, and you can see the books I've liked there.  My favorite book for the year though is The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry by Rachel Joyce.  I loved this book.

Eileen - I didn't wear my 'Snow Sneakers' the other day because they are for wet slushy snow and that day it was just icy.  If it is really icy I wear ice grippers on the bottom of my shoes called Yaktrax.  The other day there was still plenty of places to walk where there wasn't any ice so didn't wear them.  The are great though!!

Vee - I always wear bright colors to be seen any way but during hunting season I wear orange.  I do hear gun shots around in the woods.

John - As you just read, I've change my mind about carrying mace with me.

  1. Great barn down in the valley! You can't beat red. Our tree is cut and in the garage, I hope to get it in the stand tomorrow. We walked at the "Y" today, but not 6 miles. Thanks for stopping by, I hope to see you back again.

  2. That barn is a classic. Nicely photographed!

  3. I'll look at your book list and for the book you mentioned. I've read a lot more this year and I've enjoyed it. I'll have to figure out which book is my favorite. And the mace is a good idea to carry. I need to think about that too! Hugs, Diane

    1. I just checked online and was able to get this book as an ebook from my library! YAY! Thanks!

  4. Lovely images. That first shot of the barn is amazing!

  5. Your Christmas tree looks very pretty in the bay window. I have come to look forward to what Ken will come up with on the red ball. 44 years and still going strong is quite an accomplishment.
Sounds like the mace would be a good idea for you to carry with you.

  6. Quite a contrast in those barn shots! And a very nice little Christmas tree.

  7. That's a beautiful view down towards the farm!
I think that's so romantic of Ken to paint a Christmas ball and put a message on it! Your tree looks great at the window too!

  8. Lovely photos Karen! Your Christmas tree is just right. Looking forward to seeing what Ken puts on your Christmas Ball this year. What a wonderful thing to do.
    Enjoy your day.

  9. Great pictures. We haven't a tree in house but I love yours. The puzzel is also fine.

  10. Hello, love the barn scene. Your tree is beautiful! 44 years is awesome. I think carrying the mace is a good idea. Thanks for the answer to my question, I was trying to think of the name Yaktrac. Happy Tuesday, enjoy your day!

  11. I'm glad the attack dog was on a leash today. The jig saw puzzle is very pretty. I actually was looking at some the other day in the store. Not sure what size to get to get started. I think the 1000 piece might be a bit too intimidating at first. Have a good day.

  12. Your Christmas tree is beautiful! Can't wait to see what Ken puts on the red ball this year! Love you guys. MJ

  13. Your tree is beautiful. The handmade ornaments make it extra special.

  14. I do like your puzzle and your tree looks lovely.
What a nice idea with the red Christmas ball ...

    All the best Jan

  15. I saw mace in Dick's Sporting Goods the other day. I didn't know where to buy it. I see people walking with a large stick, too. What a nice setting you have for your tree. Looks like most of your leaves have already left.

  16. I always like seeing what Ken comes up with for the year. Are your shepherds and Wisemen traveling? Mine aren't. They're still in the styrofoam box. How's yours holding up? Mine is doing all right, but my sister's is a mess. Glad that you found out where the dog lives. I found out where the dog lives here, too. And I learned his name...Dasher. Funny about that, I mistook him for a deer the first time I saw him then I came to.

  17. I love your tree. Great idea with the red balls. 44 years! Mary and I are a year short of that later this month.
