Walking is the perfect way of moving if you want to see into the life of things. It is the one way of freedom. If you go to a place on anything but your own feet you are taken there too fast, and miss a thousand delicate joys that were waiting for you by the wayside. Elizabeth von Arnim

A clever idea

I came across this hanging on a porch this morning as I walked by.
Looks like a bicycle wheel with plates in the spokes.
Thought it was a clever idea.
It was 31 degrees this morning, cloudy and windy.
I took along a stick with me today but I am happy to say there
was no sign of yesterdays dog.

It is pretty dark again in the mornings when I start walking but
in just a few weeks the days will start to get longer.

Walked to the post office and mailed a letter and then walked all over town
including both cemeteries and the ball park loop.
Stopped for a little chat with Kathy.

Walked 6.1 miles
👟     👟     👟
Right after breakfast I went down to LaVale on my own and
went to the mall to do my Christmas shopping.
Ken and I just get a few things for each other,
just to have something to open on Christmas.
I found everything I wanted and the prices were fantastic.
So many sales!!!
So nice to be done shopping already.
There were hardly any people walking around the mall.
Down at the end is a Walmart and that was packed.  I didn't even walk in there.
I was back home by lunchtime.

Finished reading my book last night, Winter Garden by Kristin Hannah.
It was sad at times but the book was very good and I enjoyed it.
Great ending too.
I took a picture of the inside cover.
Going out in a little while to play Mexican Train with our friends.
I'm bringing a vegetable dish of Green Beans.
Got the recipe from Jan and you can find the recipe

A happy day to you.

Glad you didn't have another run in with that dog Karen.
I am looking forward to the longer days too. It is just 4:00 in the afternoon here now and it is starting to get dark.
I had to pay a quick visit to our Walmart this morning and it was busy. Glad you were able to get your Christmas shopping done.
Your book sounds very interesting. Must look for it.
Have a good time tonight!

You have know idea how much I admire you for walking each day. I love to walk, but not alone . . . I need someone to drag me out of the house, but once I'm walking I love it. Why is that? On the other day you walk in rain, heat, and freezing weather . . . you are an inspiration.
Happy weekend!
Connie :)

So glad there was no dog today!
Well done with your Christmas shopping, I still need to get a few presents.
I'm also hoping to start writing my cards this weekend!

Enjoy Mexican Train with your friends, and enjoy the Green Beans too.
Thanks for the link ...

Have a happy weekend

All the best Jan

Wow! I'm impressed that you are done with your shopping. Glad the dog wasn't a bother today. Dogs unleashed and running about me are a scary thing. Have fun with your friends and have a great weekend.

Hello, I have only just started thinking about Christmas shopping. Some maybe online shopping which is easy. I am one woman who really does not like to shop. I am glad the dog was not out during your walk. I hope your evening with your friends was fun. I am going to check out the recipe. Happy Saturday, enjoy your weekend!

The coloured glass plates in the wheel make it a pretty decoration.
So glad the dog was not about!
I'm intrigued by the book now I've read that part so a trip to the library for me!

Hi Happyone, Thanks for sharing your blog and your kind comments on mine. I was just looking over your last few posts and had to comment on the dog adventure. As I think I mentioned to you I am back on my daily walks and owe part of that to you since I am so impressed with you walking about 6 miles every day, taking pics as you go along, and sharing them with us. My walk is a city walk and not nearly as beautiful as your walk but in some ways there are similar things, like dogs. :-) Here in the big city, dogs are, by law, to be kept on leash. Of course, as with anything else, there are those who don't obey the rules and we just have to watch out for them. About a week ago I had a dog run at me, like your experience. I did a similar thing, just backing away, and managed to pass the house without getting bit. However, it did make me wonder if I should start carrying some kind of spray in case I encounter one that is a little too agressive. What do you think? Have a great weekend and thanks again for sharing!

The wheel and plates is a unique way to display old plates.

That is a unique decoration! I missed your post about the dog problem but I'm glad that you were able to bring something just in case. I get barked at when I walk but so far, that's about it. Have a great day.
