Walking is the perfect way of moving if you want to see into the life of things. It is the one way of freedom. If you go to a place on anything but your own feet you are taken there too fast, and miss a thousand delicate joys that were waiting for you by the wayside. Elizabeth von Arnim

A couple of recipes

🍄     🍄     🍄

19 degrees this morning when I left on my walk but there was no wind.  The sun came out too and boy was it nice and warm to feel it on my face.  😊I ended up having to take one of my hoods down because I got warm.

Headed over to the post office first to mail a letter and then continued walking on around the ball park loop which is where I took the picture of the little stream in the woods back there.  Then around both cemeteries, down by the Drane house and all around town.

Quiet around town, didn't see anyone else out.
Walked 6 miles
Found a penny and two dimes

Yesterday I got a sad email from my friend Sara-Jane who I have known
since we worked together when we were just 19.
Her beloved husband Tony of 31 years is now at home in Heaven.
We talked a good while on the phone this morning.
She is doing okay but I ask you to please keep my friend in your prayers.
Thank You.

The recipe for the Honey Bread from yesterday.
  • Cream 3/4 cup of butter and 2 cups sugar
  • Beat in 4 eggs
  • Add 3/4 cup honey
Sift together
  • 4 cups Rye flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ginger
Add to mixture alternating with 1 cup buttermilk.
No buttermilk? A substitute is 1 tablespoon lemon juice in cup filled rest of the way with milk.
Pour into 2 greased loaf pans.
Bake one hour at 350 degrees.
I had to leave it in the oven for an additional 15 minutes.

This morning Ken went up to Happy Trails and I stayed home but
after lunch I went back up there with him.
We got a fire barrel started and burned lots of scrap wood
that we had in piles here and there.

Forgot my camera so don't have any pictures.
Time to go get some supper made and then I have to
bake a pumpkin pie for tomorrow.
 A happy day to you.

Had a horrible pumpkin bread fiasco this week...tested done, but was not done. Today, I had another baking disaster. Maybe, I should just give up and buy pies. I am sorry for your dear friend's loss. Not easy to say goodbye after all those years of marriage.

A Happy Thanksgiving to you and Ken!

Thank you for sharing your recipes, Karen. Now I know what honey bread is and it sounds yummy. I have a lot of pumpkin on hand right now so will most likely try the pumpkin bread over the weekend.
I am sorry to hear about your friend's loss. Never easy, but I think it is especially hard around the holidays.
I wish you and Ken a Happy and blessed Thanksgiving day.
