Each morning when I open my eyes I say to myself;
I, not events, have the power to make me happy or unhappy today.
I can choose which it shall be. Yesterday is dead, tomorrow hasn’t arrived yet.
I have just one day, today, and I’m going to be happy in it.
~Groucho Marx

This is the day which the Lord hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.

The bird feeder

✿     ✿     ✿     ✿
A few very light sprinkles of rain but it was mostly just cloudy during my walk this morning.  It was 44 degrees with a slight breeze.  I woke up late so didn't get started walking until 7:30.  I really dislike the time change because now I'll be walking in the dark again.  Since I left late today though I didn't have to walk in the dark.

Dropped off a couple of bills, one at public works and one down the mail slot at the post office.  Then had a random walk all around town.

Looks like some birds have started building nests in this multiple dwelling.  I can see some hay sticking out of a couple of the holes.
Walking around the ball park loop I saw Peggy walking her dog.  It's been over a year since I saw her walking.  She was talking on the phone so didn't stop to chat.  Maybe I'll see her tomorrow.

Walked 6 miles.

We recycled a piece of the deck railing when we moved here and got rid of the deck out back.  I put it out in the yard and made a bird feeding area and it has been there for a couple of years now.  There are two feeders but I also set seeds out on top of the railing.  The seed was gone in no time with the squirrels and chipmunks and now deer.  The crows would come and scare the other birds away too.
Ken got some 1/4 inch wire mesh and nailed it down leaving a little space between the mesh and the board and bent up the sides.  The birds can get at the seed easily but it takes a little work for the chipmunks and squirrels.  The crows don't like the mesh and haven't been around much.  This has worked out great and there has been all kinds of birds here now.  It is like one long feeder.
It's been a nice day around the house.  Gave my bathroom a good deep cleaning and it's sparkling clean.

Walked around the yard on this cloudy day.  The rhubarb plants have started poking up through the ground as well as the daffodils.  I also noticed a lot of weeds making their appearance already.

Got some more reading done too and also listened to an audio book while I counted out tracts and put them in groups of 25 with a rubber band for church.  Next month is tract month and we will be handing them out.  People hand them out throughout the year too but everyone gets involved during tract month.

It's been a good day.
A happy day to you.

My Three Happy Times
  1.  Hearing and seeing birds at the feeder
  2. Rhubarb plants starting
  3. A sparkly bathroom

  1. Yes, I liked your three happy times ...

    All the best Jan

  2. I'm no fan of this time change, either! I prefer my daylight in the mornings! Great bird feeder idea! We tried to get some rhubarb to grow, but had no luck. Have a good night!

  3. I like it when the day doesn't end at 6pm

  4. Very ingenious bird feeder!
    Love the bird flats!
    Happy Tuesday :)

  5. Oh I LOVE the feeder!!! What a great idea!

  6. Hello, I am not happy with the time change either. The bird feeder is great and I love the shot of the barn. Your three happy things are great! Happy Tuesday, enjoy your day!

  7. Super sweet bird feeder and love the red barns in the first picture!
    Have a great day!

  8. What a great idea for feeding the birds!
We seem to be having the same weather as you.
Bring on the rhubarb! I love it.

  9. Since I've been retired I wake up to the sun and not a clock so this time change has me getting up a bit later. It's funny how an hour can make such a difference. I love your bird feeding idea and the wire mesh. Have a great day.

  10. Wow...that is some bird feeder...great idea! We had rhubarb when I was a kid growing up and my mom made pies and cobblers, sometimes adding strawberries. I loved pulling off a stalk and dipping it in the sugar bowl and eating it! Brings back such fond memories :)

  11. Yum, I LOVE rhubarb so much and I always forget to look for it at the store. My neighbor grew it long ago and I was the one who ate it, but now her rhubarb is gone forever (I forget why).
I love the bird house and I love bird feeders. I'm beginning to wonder if we live in a hawk's territory and he is scaring the little guys away. Drat.
Take care, K! Great walk today, you!
