Walking is the perfect way of moving if you want to see into the life of things. It is the one way of freedom. If you go to a place on anything but your own feet you are taken there too fast, and miss a thousand delicate joys that were waiting for you by the wayside. Elizabeth von Arnim

A cold walk

☀     ☀     ☀     ☀

I left the house this morning at 7:15 and I thought it was pretty cold at 10 degrees.  We just got about 3 inches of snow yesterday but this morning there was some ice around so I wore my ice grippers over my hiking boots.  I first walked to the post office to mail off a Netflix and a card.  It seemed colder than 10 and my feet were starting to get cold and my legs felt cold too.

I had walked up the main road and around both cemeteries and was headed to the ball park loop when I saw Ken drive up in the car.  He asked me didn't I think it was too cold to be out walking and wasn't I cold.  I told him yes I was a bit cold and that is when he told me it wasn't 10 degrees, but 1 degree BELOW zero.  I was near home so told him I'd walk straight home.  It was nice getting home to a nice warm house.  I stood by the pellet stove for a bit. : )

Walk was cut a bit short today at 2.9 miles.

Every year since we've been married Ken paints a red Christmas ball with an event or happening from the year.  Here's an old picture of some of them.
This years ball will remind us how warm it was this year.
We now have 43 balls!
We spend another Tuesday afternoon at the bowling lanes. : )  There were 7 of us today.
My scores this time were: 136, 148, and 110.

Stopped on the way home for a new supply of ice cream which was on sale again.
Figured I'd get this posted and then go have some supper.  A simple supper tonight of baked potatoes and a salad.

Hope your day is a happy one.

Wow! The train land is amazing! The painted balls are a great idea. I'm glad you didn't stay too long out in the cold, K.

I am so impressed by you walking at that early hour in those frigid temps. You are a real trooper.
I do remember the red balls from years past and am glad you shared this year's model with us. I think the warms temps will be memorable for many of us. I'm curious to know how Ken came up with the idea for making the red ball ornaments. Seems to be a very nice way to capture all of the memories from your years together.

That is very cold to be walking outside! That is a really nice tradition of the red Christmas balls!

Well, those pictures do look cold, and -1 is pretty chilly! Not quite as cold as here, but pretty brisk for walking!

So glad you finally got some snow! It isn't winter without snow - except in Arizona! I love that tradition of the red Christmas balls. I think that is so neat! Ken's train layouts are truly amazing! He is so talented. My husband also likes to build and paint miniature models, but he does soldiers, and sci-fi monsters and machines instead of trains. Stay warm. Below 0 is pretty darn cold!

You have good, thoughtful husband.
What's the best bowling score?

I mean thoughtful because he was concerned for you out there in the cold

I love your first photo, very pretty.
We were about the same temperature as you yesterday. We were bundled right up for our walks.
Take care!

Thank Goodness that Ken is looking out for you and that you're listening. Oh thank you for sharing this year's Christmas ball...65° was definitely memorable! Only 60° here, but still memorable!

If you don't hit the ball too far, you won't lose a golf ball. ;) My golf score rivals your bowling score! LOL (not a good thing) I liked the quote, though. I'm glad Ken came to check on you. What a great tradition, the Christmas ornaments.

It was SUCH a warm Christmas. As I recall, it was about 84 degrees here. That's crazy. BTW -- I love your new background. It feels warm and snugly for winter.
