Each morning when I open my eyes I say to myself;
I, not events, have the power to make me happy or unhappy today.
I can choose which it shall be. Yesterday is dead, tomorrow hasn’t arrived yet.
I have just one day, today, and I’m going to be happy in it.

Day Fourteen of Thanks

Giving Thanks Post Day Fourteen
Police Officers and Fire Fighters

Today is national Thank a Police Officer Day.
I am thankful for all the Police Officers who try to do
their best to keep us safe.
It must be very hard to be an Officer these days.
Seems whatever they do is the wrong thing.
I for one want to thank them for putting their lives on the line
each day they go to work.
I pray they are safe and that God watches over them
and their families.

I also am thankful for all the Fire Fighters who also
put their lives on the line when they go to work.
When the fire house siren goes off, they hop on the fire truck
and don't know what they will be facing.
I pray for them and their families too.

My dad was a volunteer fireman when I was a kid.
We lived down the road from the fire station
and when the siren went off
he would run down to the fire station.
One day several firemen ran down to the fire station
responding to the siren but none of them were the drivers.
So my dad said to hop on the truck and he would drive them to the fire.
He got reprimanded for doing that
but I was proud of him for doing what needed to be done.

My you have a happy and thankful day.

  2. I too am so thankful for our police officers, and firefighters, and know several personally! I also enjoyed your story about your Dad, I f that had been my home I would have been very grateful to him!
I read several more of yourthankful post this morning trying to catch up, and was so blessed by them, especially the one of living in a small town, we live in a small community and it is very close knit! Please excuse in written errors, as I had intricate eye surgery this week, and my vision is not the best, I am suppose to be resting~smile~ But sitting or lying around is not what I do best.
    Have a blessed day.
    Hugs from me,
    Sue

  3. Thanks for taking the time to write this blog reminding us to be grateful. All the things you've mentioned this month are important. I'm particularly thankful for policemen and firemen who saved my son's life many years ago. MJ

  6. Many times these workers are forgotten and not appreciated. Then a time comes in our lives when we need a policeman or a fireman and then we wonder how we ever overlooked their service to our communities. I'm definitely thankful for them. I enjoyed hearing about your dad being a fireman. If it had been my house he was driving the others to I would have definitely been so grateful that he didn't abide by that rule that day.
