Each morning when I open my eyes I say to myself;
I, not events, have the power to make me happy or unhappy today.
I can choose which it shall be. Yesterday is dead, tomorrow hasn’t arrived yet.
I have just one day, today, and I’m going to be happy in it.

One more try

The picture of the fox is one I took a couple of years ago
on one of my walks where I used to live.
One of my favorites.
☃     ☃     ☃     ☃
Another cold morning with snow coming down so once again I had to walk inside.  This time I walked 4 miles at one time right when I got up.  By late morning the snow stopped, the sun came out and it warmed up to the teens.   After lunch  I bundled up and went outside for a couple of  hours.  Got the driveway cleared of snow and then walked around the yard in the snow.  I figured I got enough exercise outside so didn't do any more walking in the house.

I wanted to knit these fingerless gloves last night but never I didn't get started.
I didn't realize that the pattern calls for double pointed needles.  I've tried using them before when I tried to make socks but couldn't seem to get the hang of it.  The socks were on very small needles and I thought maybe I could manage on a bigger size and be able to knit this.  Well, I tried and tried last night and spent an hour on it again today and just can't get manage to get the hang of knitting with 5 needles.  I found a good tutorial on YouTube but it just isn't working for me.  I'll give it another try another day in a day or two and then I just may have to give up.  It really bothers me that I can't do this.  Every one tells me it is so easy.  I was not happy and Ken had to give me a hug before I felt better. : )

Ken is going through some old VCR tapes and came across tapes that we made from old 8 mm home movies from when I was a little girl.  There was no sound back then and the picture quality is pretty bad but what fun to see them again.  We watched me when I was only 5, 6, 7, 11, and 15.  How nice to see my grandparents again, other family members, old friends, and my parents so young again.  I'm older now than my grandparents were in the pictures.  That is really strange.

This evening I'm going to make weave-it squares.  Now that I know how to do. : )

A happy day to you.

which when pursued
is always just beyond your grasp,

may alight upon you.

  1. I am sending you a hug, too, Karen. I am sorry you had problems with the needles and those fingerless gloves. I did some knitting some years ago, but never tried those needles. The weather is really working on plans for outdoor activity. We are not accustomed to such around here, and it seems the days ahead are going to give us more winter here. I hope your evening is stressfree!

  2. I used to do a lot of knitting and never really got good at working with so many needles.I don't think I was very persistent either. Hope you get this figured out.

  4. So cool to go back and look at the old video tapes. I'll bet closets all over the country have some of those stored. We should take some time and look at them again. So I say, thanks for the reminder. :-) Have a good day ... I'm wishing you some warmer weather. John

  5. I really should pick up knitting or crocheting but then I think, I don't have time when I'm too busy painting and drawing, so I'll stick to what I know what to do. We also continue to get snow every day, Hubby and I shoveled a few inches on Monday, a few more yesterday and by the looks of today, we will need to go at it again. It's a good workout with the hand shovel but thankfully we have a snow blower that has made it so much easier to do, especially with hubby being slow and having to take it easy. That picture of the Fox is GORGEOUS!! How in the world did you get so close without thinking you might become his lunch?? Have a blessed week :) -Bev

  6. It is fun to watch old home movies, but sometimes it makes you miss those who have gone on to heaven...I love the picture of the fox. Sounds like you've had a good day. See you tomorrow!

  7. Oh my, that sounds very complicated to me. I didn't even realize that it was possible to knit with more than 2 needles.
Those old home movies are treasures for sure. I remember we all did a lot of waving back then since there was no sound.

  8. What a lovely gift from the past to find the old movies again. Somewhere in this house, I have some similar video and I will be older than the grandparents I see, too.

That's a handsome sly fox! I couldn't knit those to save my soul. I needed some for working upstairs in the unheated sewing room so I cut the sleeves from a felted sweater. It worked perfectly!
