Walking is the perfect way of moving if you want to see into the life of things. It is the one way of freedom. If you go to a place on anything but your own feet you are taken there too fast, and miss a thousand delicate joys that were waiting for you by the wayside. Elizabeth von Arnim

Icing

 ☃     ☃     ☃     ☃
Left the house at 6:35 this morning and went for my walk.  It was 29 degrees, windy and snow was coming down.  I was bundled up good and was nice and warm.  Wore my hiking boots too which kept my feet dry.  When I got home the temperature had dropped to 24.

I walked mostly up and down the roads in town. Just me and the snow plows out and one dog who ran the other way when he saw me.
It was nice being out in the falling snow.  At times it almost stopped and then would start up again.

Once the side roads were plowed they actually were more slippery because the packed snow turned icy so I walked in the snow.  Had a few 'whoa' moments but didn't fall.

Walked around both of the cemeteries too and before I knew it I had walked 6 miles.

After my morning routine I made the royal icing recipe I got from Karen, but I only made half.  I tried to do the fancy cookies like Karen but I need a lot of practice yet.  Mine sure didn't look like hers.  I ended up just icing the the cookies and putting sprinkles on them.   I'm sure the kids will like them.  I'll have to practice with the icing when I don't have to make 60 cookies.  I have quite a bit of icing left over in the refrigerator and will try again another time.  I'm really tired of these heart cookies now!!  : )
Anyway here's a picture of the icing and then the cookies with the icing on them.
It's been snowing all day and the temperature has been dropping.  As I write this it is down to 12 degrees and I'm sure it will go lower during the night.

I've done some more knitting and I'm almost done with the second slipper.  I'll probably get it done tonight.  I've also started yet another puzzle.  Not enough of it yet for a picture.

Hope your day has been a happy one.

How sweet of you to make 60 cookies! They came out fantastic and look so yummy! Please be careful out there while you're walking. Your road and snow scenes look exactly like ours. We are also dipping down to single digits tonight. The snow fell very light today but it probably added up to 2 inches, we've got more coming but nothing like Boston. Today's snow fall fell lightly, it was very bright out, the sun peeked through a few times but did not take the chill away. Overall, it was beautiful looking out the window as the snow fell. You are so brave to go walking so far everyday, more brave for waking up so early!! Have a good evening! :) -Bev

I love the quote about "spreading light!" I think the cookies look just marvelous! I know they will be enjoyed and appreciated! Icing the cookies is not my favorite part of baking.:-) The snow looks like icing all around! Our temps have dropped today, and we are to have colder weather for the week-end.

The temperatures are dropping...and are to be dangerously low over the weekend. Stay warm!

Your cookies are so pretty, my friend. I'm afraid after I'd iced the second dozen they would have started getting sloppy....yours are all so neat. Have a great weekend!

Your cookies look great! That's a lot of cookies to have to frost - I would be tired after a dozen or two!
I really like that quote! I'll be saving that one.
Have a Happy Valentine's Day!

Your cookies look delicious. I am sure the kids will love them. I tried to walk outside yesterday on the trail but it was mostly ice covered. It is supposed to be super cold this weekend, stay warm and safe..Have a happy Friday!

Your cookies turned out great. So festive looking and pretty.
That is a lot of work to frost 60 of them. I can see why you are now tired of them :).
Happy Valentine's Day.
