Each morning when I open my eyes I say to myself;
I, not events, have the power to make me happy or unhappy today.
I can choose which it shall be. Yesterday is dead, tomorrow hasn’t arrived yet.
I have just one day, today, and I’m going to be happy in it.

Buying the Tree

✼     ✼     ✼     ✼
A chilly 26 degrees, cloudy and windy this morning when I walked.

Dropped some mail down the slot at the post office and walked all over town up and down all the streets.  A couple of people were out walking dogs.

I walked up the road to the little park in town and took this picture at the edge of the woods.
Laying across one of the streets in town was one of those cable counters.  I'd be curious to know the car count there too.

A truck with a cattle trailer was stopped at a stop street with four cattle when I walked by so of course I said hi to the cattle.  Then after they pulled away and I remembered that it was Monday and they were off to the cattle auction.  : ( Well they had a nice life out in the open and I do eat meat so...... that's what happens.

A few icy spots around but they were far and few between.  I enjoyed my walk as usual and it was nice to come home to a nice warm cozy house.  : )

I walked 6.2 miles.

Today I got out some more Christmas decorations and decorated the front window and put some lights around the house.

Ken got the tree stand down and put it on the round table in front of the window where the tree will go.  We checked the tree lights and had to throw some stands out and then after lunch we went to Walmart and bought some more lights.  Just putting red ones on the tree this year.

Next stop was to pick out the Christmas Tree.  We stopped at a tree farm we pass on the way to church.  They have cut trees but you can also cut down your own tree.  We thought we'd just buy one that was already cut but all the cut ones were way too big for us.  When we asked if there were any smaller ones he told us to go out back and pick one and he would cut it down for us.  So that is what we did.  We found the perfect tree for us.  This is the barn where we bought it.  I love the building.  Inside were the cut trees all hanging from the ceiling.  There were also lots of wreaths, bows and other Christmas decorations.  Some antiques for sale too.  It was a charming store and I just loved it.  The front part of the barn wasn't heated but you went through a door and in back it was toasty warm heated by a fire place and he offered us hot cider.  What a nice tree buying experience.
Ken put the tree in the stand and later tonight we will put the lights on
and I'll decorate it tomorrow.
Now we just need some snow and I think we might just get some tonight.

Hope your day has been a happy one.

  3. That is a great place for your tree - right in front of the window. Sounds like you had fun buying it. We have never had a real tree - but I sure love the way they smell. See you tomorrow!

  4. Your tree looks right at home in front of the window. The Christmas tree buying experience sounds picture perfect and the building looks like fun.
As I was reading this post I began to wonder what special ornament Ken will create this year. Hmmm...

I am anxious to see your all red lights.. my husbands aunt used to use all red lights on her tree, years ago.
