Walking is the perfect way of moving if you want to see into the life of things. It is the one way of freedom. If you go to a place on anything but your own feet you are taken there too fast, and miss a thousand delicate joys that were waiting for you by the wayside. Elizabeth von Arnim

Saturday

Plants that have popped up through the leaves all over Happy Trails
❇     ❇     ❇     ❇
First of all I just want to say that we had 205 trick-or-treaters come to the house last night.  That is a LOT of kids.  There are only a little over 300 people in our whole
town.
40 degrees this morning with a misty rain so I left in my rain pants and slicker.  Saw Lisa but didn't stop for a chat because she was running past on the opposite side of the road.  Also saw the man walking his two little dogs.

Walked around town and I liked walking through all the leaves even though they were wet.

I only walked 4.5 miles this morning because I have a killer sore throat and the damp air seemed to make it worse so I went home early.  I finished my other 1-1/2 mile walking down stairs in the basement.

I have started November off on a good start by finding my first coin and not just a penny.  A quarter. : )

The coins for the month of October were a dime, a nickel, and 4 pennies for a grand total of 19 cents.  I only save the coins that I find but I also found a dollar bill last month.

I had some nice hot cream of wheat for breakfast and it felt ever so good on my sore throat.

It has been a rainy first day of November and even though snow showers were expected I haven't seen any yet today.

I baked a cheese cake this morning so the house is smelling pretty good.  Just staying home today and relaxing.  I'm off now to do some reading.

Hope your first day of November is one of happiness.

Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life.
It turns what we have into enough, and more.
It turns denial into acceptance,
chaos to order,
confusion to clarity.
It can turn a meal into a feast,
a house into a home,
a stranger into a friend.

Betty - Thank you so much for your kind words.  I pray you find peace and comfort and that you feel better.
John - I have a Striiv that I use to track my steps and miles.  It also keeps track of the calories I have used up.  It is small and fits in my pocket and I have it with me all day.
Ruta - No, don't carry a torch, but I stay in town where the street lights are until it starts to get light.

Have any marshmallows? They feel good on a sore throat and a pin says that a warm jello drink soothes, too, though I've not tried that one. I have been touting echinacea for years and have not had a cold for four or five years. This year, a cold caught up with me and I've been purely miserable for two weeks. I learned the same thing you did at my grand's soccer game last week...cold, damp air feels awful on a sore throat. Now do lie low and feel better soon.

Hope your sore throat is better soon. I love the fall leaves. We still have our air conditioning on here. Sadly, my Striiv died. I can'd get it to hold a charge so I guess the battery in it is dead. I need to figure out if there is anything I can do about it. Hope the rest of your weekend goes well.

Wow! That IS a lot of children! We had only 20 here, and that is an increase from past years. Once or twice there weren't any to come by. Take care of that throat! I know how uncomfortable that can be.

Hope your throat is feeling better by now.
Great turnout with your trick or treaters. Our neighborhood has over 800 homes and the kids all trick or treat on the trail in our backyard. We had hundreds and hundreds come through. I didn't stand a chance of counting them. It was a fast and furious couple of hours, but also fun as most people go all out decorating the trail.
I'm off to read your previous posts as I'm behind once again.

Wow... That is a lot of kids!! There is nothing worse than a sore throat except maybe a toothache. I have been lucky too long but I am very careful not to touch my face. I hope you are feeling better soon.
Sunny here this morning but a heavy frost on everything.

Hi There, WOW--that is an amazing number of Tirck-or-Treaters. Did you have enough candy????? Holy Cow! Maybe some kids came over and over... OR--maybe bus-loads of kids came from other nearby areas....???? What have you been told? Is that normal for where you live?

SO--did you get snow? We did --and I'll blog about it tomorrow... Amazing for us this early in the season. And the low last night here was 25...

Sorry about your sore throat.. Hope you can get some medicine to prevent it from getting worse... God Bless.
Hugs,
Betsy

Oh, I am so sorry that you aren't feeling well. I hope at the time of posting this comment, that you are starting to feel a bit better now.
You did have a lot of trick or treaters. We did too...although not as many as you; still we had to make an emergency trip to the store to stock up on more candy.

Do you ever drink hot water with lemon and honey?? I have had really good results with that concoction for a sore throat.

Love the pictures!
Nice to have a brand new month.

Since I'm not seeing a newer post than this one, I'm guessing that sore throat has got you down in bed. Hope you're soon feeling well again.

That was A LOT of trick-or-treaters!

Hi Happyone, Thank you for answering my questions. I like that device that you use to track how far you walk. Your walks inspire me ... I need to get going on regular long walks. Thanks for sharing your blog. John

205 trick-or-treaters?! We had only 11. We were handing out big handfulls of candy, but it was cold outside, so hardly anybody was out that day.

The way I am reading your post, you have a looooooong stairway to your basement. Yes, I am being a wise guy. :-)
