Walking is the perfect way of moving if you want to see into the life of things. It is the one way of freedom. If you go to a place on anything but your own feet you are taken there too fast, and miss a thousand delicate joys that were waiting for you by the wayside. Elizabeth von Arnim

No Walk

I am thankful for libraries.
What a great feeling to walk in the library and know you can
walk out with an armful of books and you don't have to pay for them.

Well, I wimped out this morning and didn't walk.  It was 13 degrees, and the snow was blowing sideways and I was sure the there was ice somewhere underneath the snow.

Ken and one of the fish he caught last week.
I went outside after lunch to clear off the truck and to get the mail.  It was still cold and very windy.  I had to wear my ice grippers walking down the driveway.  Thought briefly of going for a walk but didn't want to take a chance of falling on the ice so early in the season. : )
The main roads are just wet but parking lots and sidewalks not so great.

There is Veterans memorial in town and they are selling bricks to honor veterans.  You get three lines of 15 characters to write name, rank and branch of military and dates served.  I bought one for Ken, and we are getting three more for my Dad, Ken's Dad and my step-Dad.  I went through my Dad's stuff this afternoon looking for his military record so I would know what to write on his brick.  After I found what I was looking for I spent some time reading through some of his things.   Nice to be able to read some of things he wrote down about his life.  An interesting bit is when he was in the Army, for a while the actor Jimmy Stewart was his commanding officer and my dad was his driver.

Planning on going to church this evening to see Don Williams do a chalk drawing.  Hopefully we'll actually get to go this time.

Hope your day has been a happy one and that you are nice and warm.

I really like the quote at the end. I read somewhere that God put our eyes in the front of our heads so we could look forward and not back.I am off to church tonight for a ladies Christmas event, with a guest speaker who I know has much to share.

Hi There, We've had a couple of days of those horribly frigid temperatures and some flurries... We did get a little accumulations during the night last night---but not very much...The cold temps are what we hate....It was 12 degrees this morning and even though the sun came out, it stayed in the 20's all day long... brrrrrrr...

You are smart not to try to walk when there is ice under the snow... Be careful....

Great photo of Ken and his 'catch'.
Hugs,
Betsy

Hi Happyone, Wow, Ken caught a great one, Congrats to him! That is neat you have the old papers about your Dad. And, what a nice honor about the bricks. Thanks for answering my question. Hope you have a good dad and are able to get out for your walk today. John

I didn't get much of a walk in yesterday either - just too windy and snowy! We got about a foot by the end of it.

I think you were wise not to walk in such bad weather, although I guess the recent cold didn't stop Ken from catching some nice fish. The connection between your Dad and Jimmy Stewart was interesting.

I would have stayed in, too! That is a good looking fish that Ken caught! I've no relatives with service histories. It is neat that Jimmy Stewart and your father served together!

Ken's fish looks very impressive. What kind is it?
What a nice way to honor your family member's service to our country. The connection between your dad and Jimmy Stewart is really neat. I once sat in the same pew with Jimmy Stewart at a church in California.
I hope you were able to see the chalk drawings.

That's a good-looking fish Ken has there, but oh, the weather looks soooo cold!
I like the memorial brick idea for the veterans. How very interesting to find out your dad was a driver for Jimmy Stewart during WW II. :)

That's really nice with the bricks honoring the veterans. That is quite a nice rockfish Ken has. Looks like a cold day on the water, though. I have not fished in so many years, but even when I did, I never caught a fish like that!
