Each morning when I open my eyes I say to myself;
I, not events, have the power to make me happy or unhappy today.
I can choose which it shall be. Yesterday is dead, tomorrow hasn’t arrived yet.
I have just one day, today, and I’m going to be happy in it.
~Groucho Marx

This is the day which the Lord hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.

A cold crisp morning

I am thankful for cold crisp sunny mornings.
The kind with bright blue skies that make you happy to be alive and out walking. : )

Only 27 degrees this morning but oh what a crisp clear one it was.  Love mornings like these for walking.  The sun was shining and nary a breeze was blowing.  So out I went with my old pedometer making sure it was clipped on to my pants just right and that it was snapped closed.  Otherwise it won't record.  The Striiv is nice because you can just put it in your pocket and not worry about it.  I sure am glad to have my old one as back up though.
Walked all over town and around the two cemeteries.  The cemetery up on the left is one of two that I walk pass but they are too small to have a path through them.

Came upon a man this morning walking down the center of town who asked if there was a shelter near here.  He was from Texas and hitchhiking to Iowa.  Told him no but if he wanted to warm up for a bit, that just up the road was a laundromat that was nice and warm.  Don't know if he went there for a while but didn't see him again.

Saw a few of these ice puddles around which I think are kind of neat looking.
Saw some more geese flying in their V formations and a lot of crows all over town.

My pedometer showed I walked 6 miles.  I think it is off by a tenth every mile so I could have walked as much as 6.6 miles.

Ken went up to Happy Trails today and I decided to stay home.  While cleaning I baked some bread, made macaroni salad, and baked some chocolate chip cookies.

I finished reading Southern Storm, the second book in the Cape Refuge series by Terri Blackstock.  I thought it was very good and later today I'll start the third book, The River's Edge.

Hope your day has been filled with sunshine and some happiness scattered about.

  1. Hi Happyone, Sorry to hear about the Striiv dying, but glad to hear you have a new one on the way. I may take a look at Amazon and see about ordering one of those to encourage myself to get into a regular walk. I sure like that first picture in today's post. I don't know why more folks don't take and share those kind of photos. The tree and sky ... it just seems like art to me. Hope you are having a good weekend. Are you over the cold? Thanks for stopping by my blog and leaving me the kind comments, and replying to my questions. John

  2. LOVE your tree branches and sky shot .....and I LOVE ice puddles too (but not too found of the temps that bring them about)
    Have a GREAT Day!!

  3. The ice puddle looks like a work of art. Glad you had a sunny day, we had a little sun but lots of rain too.
