Walking is the perfect way of moving if you want to see into the life of things. It is the one way of freedom. If you go to a place on anything but your own feet you are taken there too fast, and miss a thousand delicate joys that were waiting for you by the wayside. Elizabeth von Arnim

Signs, Signs and Fudge

A good place to eat in town
First time for me linking up with Signs, Signs.  You can go there to post one of own or just see more signs.
❤     ❤     ❤     ❤
A cloudy morning and 60 degrees.  Walked about half the way to Happy Trails, turned around came back to town and finished my walk in town.

I love this red flower that grows along the little stream on the road to HT.  I think it is called Bee Balm.
Look what I spotted in one of the trees already.
I don't think I'm quite ready for leaves to be changing yet.
I didn't encounter anyone else out this morning.
After 5 miles a light drizzle started but not enough to get me wet.  The road even stayed dried under the trees.

I didn't find any coins but did find a small black rubber bungee strap in the road and brought it home for Ken.
When I got home and walked around back there was a Goldfinch at the feeder.
I walked 6.6 miles.

I was asked if I would make a chocolate bite sized something for the teen girls at church for an event they are having next month.  I thought bite sized pieces of fudge would be nice.  I found a real simple recipe on line and I made some today to see how it would turn out.
Easy Chocolate Fudge
Ingredients:
  • 1 can (14 oz) sweetened condensed milk
  • 2 cups semisweet chocolate chips
  • 1 cup milk chocolate chips
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 cup chopped pecans or walnuts, optional  ( I didn't put in nuts)
Preparation:
Lightly grease a 9 inch square pan;
Line with a piece of plastic wrap, leaving ends out to cover the finished fudge.
The ends will also serve as 'handles' which will help you lift the fudge out of the pan.

Heat milk, chips, butter, and vanilla in a double boiler over simmering water. Stir until the chocolate  is melted and mixture is smooth.
Stir in nuts, if using.
Pour into the prepared pan.
Spread gently, then cover lightly with the ends of the plastic wrap.
Chill until firm.
Lift out of pan and cut into small squares.

I made it even easier by doing away with the double boiler and just melting it in the microwave.  Stopped every 30 seconds to stir.  When it was all melted
I poured it into a 7 x 11 (didn't have a 9 ")glass dish.
Here is the fudge a few hours later ready to eat.
The fudge turned out yummy and believe me it will be hard not to eat too many pieces.

It's been raining on and off all day long.  The work on the water feature continues.

I've been reading and finished The Purchase by Linda Spalding for my book club tonight.  I finished it just in time.  It was okay.

I will walk to the library right after we eat supper (book club meets at 5:30) and Ken is going to pick me up at 6:30 and we will just be able to make it church on time.  The book club usually starts to break up about that time anyway.

Hope your day was one when you smiled often.

I remember that picture of you in the big chair too.
I am impressed at how nicely your fudge is cut. It looks perfect and, no doubt, will be a big hit with the teenage girls.
I imagine you are just about to arrive at book club right about now.

Oh, yes! It would certainly be very difficult to stop at just one piece of that delectable fudge!

Great walking this morning! Have you ever eaten at that restaurant mentioned on the sign?

What a beautiful little finch.
Lots of pretty sights on your walk today .

I've made that fudge recipe before, and it is a good one.
We've made a rocky road version of the recipe before, stirring in chopped nuts and mini marshmallows too.

Enjoy your evening..

Those appealing, colourful features round the sign give it loads of character.

YUM---Fudge!!!! You know how much I love fudge --although my favorite flavor is Peanut Butter. I can't 'make' it here --or else I would eat WAY too much.. ha

Glad you are getting some birdies at your bird feeder. Once they find you, they will return. I'll do a Bird Blog post on Monday.

I just posted a picture on Facebook this morning showing some trees turning colors here... We have had such a cool spring/summer and a dry one... The poor trees don't know what is happening I'm sure.... ha

Hugs,
Betsy

That fudge looks deliciously creamy. Good thing you're getting it out of the house, too! Such things are way too tempting.

I think that your leaves have turned more quickly than ours. I've not seen any that have changed yet, unless you call azalea leaves that turn colors all summer long, changed.
