Walking is the perfect way of moving if you want to see into the life of things. It is the one way of freedom. If you go to a place on anything but your own feet you are taken there too fast, and miss a thousand delicate joys that were waiting for you by the wayside. Elizabeth von Arnim

Good Fences, Kayaking and Two Walks

Good Fences
We put up the fence in front of the cone flowers
to keep them from leaning over the sidewalk.

Good Fence #3
I'm linking up with Good Fences.

A few degrees cooler than yesterday morning it was 52 degrees this morning when I walked.  There was a mix of sun and clouds and no breeze today.

I walked the Farm Loop and then around town.  I don't know what is growing in this field next to the corn but I thought it looked pretty with the golden tops.
A little farther down the road I saw a deer standing on the side.  When he spotted me he ran off a ways, then stopped to look at me.  I then took a picture.  He was pretty far off so I zoomed in.  I see a round sore or something on his side which looks like a bullet hole.  It must not be though because he wouldn't be running around.
Back in town Sharon, who is in my book club and a neighbor three doors down was having a yard sale and I stopped to say hi.  I was surprised that so many people were there already buying stuff.  A man I have seen and talked to on my walks was there too and I learned that his name is Lee.  He asked me if I've seen any walnut trees on my 'morning journeys' as he calls my walks.  Had to tell him no, but I hadn't really looked for any either but would keep my eyes open for one.

I walked 6.3 miles.

After Cherry Hill this morning (took along some chocolate chip cookies this time) we had lunch and then headed out to Savage River Reservoir for a few hours of kayaking.  This time we explored the other side of the reservoir.  The weather was cool in the 60's and as you can see, a beautiful blue sky and puffy white clouds.
We went all the way to the end.  We stayed here for a little while watching a young deer run around playing while his mom ate.  Also saw geese, a couple of killdeer, and I think a kingfisher.
We are fascinated by the rocks along the shore line.
What a great afternoon we had.  I could do this every day.

Since I was sitting for those hours my step count was low for the day and I like to have 20,000 by the end of the day, so after supper I went for a little walk.  I first went to the Dollar General to pick up a couple of things.  Dropped them off at the house and then walked around town.

I walked around the little pond in town and stopped to take a picture of this robin sitting on the back of a bench.
These pretty yellow flowers caught my eye too.
It was just a little walk of about 2 miles or so.
When I got home there was Ken sitting on the porch.  He was reading over the book for his test tomorrow.

Sure hope all goes well tomorrow and he finally gets his bus license.   It's just been one thing after another.  He only has to take the driving part this time so all should go well, if the bus doesn't break down again!!  A little prayer would be most appreciated. Thanks! : )

Hope your day was a happy one and you smiled often.

Flowers don't worry about how they're going to bloom.
They just open up and turn toward the light
and that makes them beautiful.

Three Thankful Things Today
  1. A beautiful afternoon of kayaking
  2. Pretty Flowers
  3. The beautiful world that God has created for us
Comment Replies:
Eileen - No, we just had John for the day. We don't really need the extra help, just was helping the kids out with the auction.  I'll be back to being Ken's helper. : )

Karen and Kim - We are replacing the wooden deck with a stone patio.  The stones coming from Happy Trails.

Another wonderful day for you, Karen! How fortunate the weather was good enough for kayaking. Sending good wishes for Ken and that bus license test!

Sure! Happy to say a little prayer for that bus license and for the bus to behave itself! You need a pedometer for your arms. ha!

Good luck to Ken on his bus test. I hope he doesn't have to sit at the Motor Vehicles Department for six and a half hours like when I took Josh for his road test. I'm sure that Maryland has got to be more efficient than Arizona ;-) I love your quote for the day and your pictures from Kayaking. What a great day!

We will keep Ken and his test in our prayers. I'm sure he'll do very well. You definitely had a beautiful day and place for your kayaking. I'm glad you enjoyed your outing.

I'm sure you two loved your Kayaking.. It looks so peaceful.

Love those yellow lilies also. They look like our Golden Splendor ones... SO pretty.

Hugs,
Betsy

What a nice day you had! I smile thinking of you out enjoying a paddle in your pink kayak. Someday, I hope to own a boat again, and a kayak would be just fine. But townhouses are not conducive to that kind of thing. I am impressed with your step count. I shoot for averaging 14 a day, and that is hard enough. In cooler weather I walk at lunch at work, but this time of year, I would get back to my desk a sodden mess.

Good luck to Ken. Art

I love your fence and have suggested the same thing to my hubby, he doesn't agree. will have to show him your pic... it is a good and a beaautiful fence. walking is the best excercise ever and it seems you are getting a lot. that is a lot of steps...

Might I say, how much I enjoy reading of your daily life, There is such peace in your thoughts, and the photos are spectacular!
i lost all my cone flowers last winter due to the excessive cold, I miss having them in my garden. I have not been online to much lately, so I was wondering how your herbs are doing well. Thanks for sharing.
Blessings,
Sue

Congrats to your husband on getting his bus liscence!

How do you track your steps? Do you wear a Fitbit or something similar?

I'm so glad you're enjoying the canoeing. And very impressed that you aim for 20,000 steps per day!! I used to aim for 10,000 and use a pedometer, but have to take it slower and shorter these days.
