Walking is the perfect way of moving if you want to see into the life of things. It is the one way of freedom. If you go to a place on anything but your own feet you are taken there too fast, and miss a thousand delicate joys that were waiting for you by the wayside. Elizabeth von Arnim

A change of plans

It was a surprise this morning when I looked at the thermometer out the kitchen window and saw that it said 32 degrees.  The sun came out though and there was not a breeze to be felt.  It was a beautiful bright crisp morning and great to be outside walking and I walked the Farm Loop.

Saw Dave, from church driving his big rig and he tooted the horn and waved as I walked down the main street in town toward the Farm Loop.  Stopped to talk to Farmer Bill as I passed by his farm.  He was in the front yard playing with the dogs, Buster and Oscar.

Stopped to take this picture of phlox starting to bloom farther on down the road.
Got back to the main road and walked toward home.  Passed my house and walked down the middle of town and went to the one cemetery, then the loop behind the ball park and home.  By then it had gone up to 38 degrees.

Walked 6.3 miles.
I found a penny.

I was planning on getting a good start on my house cleaning for the week done today. I did my usual morning routine then got the sheets off the bed, washed and hung up outside and started on the kitchen.  By then it was already lunchtime.  Then Ken asked if I wanted to go up to Happy Trails.  I should have stayed home to clean but I didn't and we both went up to HT for a few hours.  We worked on getting branches and sticks out of our little brook and Ken cut down some of the little spindly trees along the brook.  It was a cloudy afternoon but the temperature went up in the mid 50's so it was nice working weather.

Planned on making a new chili recipe made with sweet potatoes and beans for supper but that too got changed and we decided to go to Ledo's for supper instead.  So the new recipe will be for tomorrow.

Hope your Monday has been a good one and that you smiled often.

Love the flexibility you have to change plans on a dime, I think that's the best thing about retirement. Gosh! What a cold morning. Hope it didn't last long or there won't be a flower left.

I love the sound of that chili!

It sounds like it was a lovely day for doing things outside. Cleaning can always wait.:)

Hi Karen, sounds like a nice day to spend at Happy Trials instead of cleaning. The cleaning can always wait - I have found that dust and dirt do not go away on their own - even though we wish they would ;-) I have never heard of sweet potatoes in chili so you will have to tell us how that turns out. Dinner out is always a nice surprise. Have a great day tomorrow. I have been super busy for a few days and sure missed stopping by for a visit...

Love the Lincoln quote! Sounds like a good morning even though it was chillier than usual. Speaking of chilly - I would love to try that chili recipe lol. Was the penny heads-up or tails-up?

I always enjoy my visits here, your walks remind me of times that Rockwell painted! Your happy lists I enjoy too!
I also love it when my dh asks me to stop and go with him, those spare of the moments always brighten my day. Thanks for sharing.
Blessings,
Sue

The phlox are pretty colors and your walk sounds like fun, seeing your neighbors out and about, as they drive a truck or play with dogs.

I'd pick Happy Trails over cleaning in a heartbeat!
