Walking is the perfect way of moving if you want to see into the life of things. It is the one way of freedom. If you go to a place on anything but your own feet you are taken there too fast, and miss a thousand delicate joys that were waiting for you by the wayside. Elizabeth von Arnim

Scones

Winter continues here in Garret County, Maryland and this morning we woke up to freezing rain and a coating of ice over everything.  Even with ice grippers it didn't seem like a good idea for walking outside so back down in the basement for my walk today.  I finished up the audio book The Inn at Rose Harbor.  I enjoyed the book and though the ending was predictable, I like how it ended.
I walked just under 6 miles.

I spent the morning running around the house like a whirlwind getting my cleaning for the day done.  When I'm in the cleaning mood I can get so much done but when I'm not I drag it out.

It warmed up as the day continued and all the ice started melting.  Then it got windy and started snowing again and the temperature is heading down again.  Though I've enjoyed all the snow and the winter here,  spring will be welcomed when it gets here.

I mentioned the other day that I had won the Tea Time magazine.  Well another part of what I won was a little recipe booklet and one of the recipes was for scones.  I've been meaning to make them since I got the booklet and this afternoon  I finally got around to making them.  Yummy!  They turned out great and both Ken and I really like them.  We split one when they were still warm.  They will be perfect with a cup of tea.
Raisin Scones
2 cups flour
3 tablespoons sugar
2 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
4 tablespoons butter
1/2 cup milk
egg
1/2 cup raisins

1.  Preheat oven to 400 degrees
2.  Sift together flour, sugar, baking power, and salt.  Cut in the butter until mixture is crumbly.
3.Mix milk and egg together.

4.  Add milk and egg and raisins, blend well. The dough should be sticky.

5.  Flour a flat workspace and knead the dough for about half a minute.  Roll it out to about a 1/2 inch thickness and cut into whatever shape you like.

6. Bake for 15 minutes
Makes about 12 scones, depending on size.

I used a round cookie cutter (one of my collection) and it made 12.

When it snows,
you have two choices:
shovel
or make snow angels.

SusieCraft - No Wegman's around here.  Columbia is actually the closest one that I know of.  Hope you are happy and well.  Miss seeing you.

Nellie - No World Market around here either, but thanks.

Thinker - No, I haven't.  But I'll look for some and try it and let you know how I like it.

RK - You are so kind to say that.  I miss all my knitter friends too.  I'll have to make a trip back as you suggest.  Tell all I said hello.

Those scones are just perfect for tea! Glad you enjoyed them.

Ice is no fun! Are you going to have really cold temperatures for the next few days?

Take care, and stay warm!

I know we got some winter weather, but the snow and ice that you have had continues to amaze. Ohhhhh...those scones look some good. You split one? Do you freeze the other 11 or give them away?
