Each morning when I open my eyes I say to myself;
I, not events, have the power to make me happy or unhappy today.
I can choose which it shall be. Yesterday is dead, tomorrow hasn’t arrived yet.
I have just one day, today, and I’m going to be happy in it.

Ski mask and a fun supper

The temperature was 0 this morning and the wind was still blowing so another basement walk.  This time I listened to Collective Soul and walked another 5 miles.  Since I've been spending a lot of time down there lately, while walking I decided to change a few things around in the guest room, drying room and the laundry room.  So when I got done walking that's what I did.

By mid morning the temperature was 12 and we decided to get out of the house for a while.  It ended up getting all the way to 18 degrees and the sun came out.  I think the arctic blast is gone now and tomorrow it will just be a normal winter day.  I am planning on walking outside. : )

We went all over the place today.  The library, Walmart, Lowe's, The Tractor Supply, Ace Hardware, The Dollar General, and the Shop and Save.  All the stores are on the same main road spread out for 20 miles.

I got a ski mask today which should keep my face nice and warm when I walk tomorrow.  The only thing that shows is my eyes.  Ken told me not to walk into any banks. : )
We stopped along the way to take a picture of Deep Creek lake which is frozen over.
While at the Shop and Save we picked up some of these pasta mini wheels and are going to have them for supper with sauce and a salad.  I have never seen this kind of pasta before.  What a fun supper.  : )
My book club this evening has been cancelled because most of the people didn't get a chance to read the book.  So we will discuss the two books next month.  I had next months book on hold and picked it up today at the library.  It is Songs of Willow Frost by Jamie Ford.  I'll start it once I finish W is for Wasted, which I'm liking.

It was nice to get out of the house for a while today. : )
Hope your day was a happy one and that the blast of frigid temperatures has moved on for you too.

  1. It sounds like your day was fun! I've never had that pasta, either, but I'd say our grandchildren would really think it is neat!

  3. The ski mask is a great idea when you are walking in those frigid temps… I worry so about frost bite ---so be careful.

The thermometer on our deck yesterday morning said a MINUS 10 degrees. Gads!!! Luckily, we finally went above freezing today!!!! BUT--schools are still closed again tomorrow since there's still so much snow and ice around these mountains and backroads.

    Hugs,
    Betsy

  6. Glad it is warming up, although I agree with Thinker that it is a little crazy the way it is reported, as if it were a catastrophe of some kind. Layer up, put on a ski mask, stay our of banks, and get on with life. My daugter-in-law in Michigan was out of work for 2 days when the college she works at closed from the cold. IN MICHIGAN! Hello, it is supposed to be cold there! Art

  7. What a cool ski mask! I need one of those!!
and I bought a pair of the "grippers" for my shoes - but haven't had any snow or ice to amount to anything - so haven't been able to use them yet :)
