Walking is the perfect way of moving if you want to see into the life of things. It is the one way of freedom. If you go to a place on anything but your own feet you are taken there too fast, and miss a thousand delicate joys that were waiting for you by the wayside. Elizabeth von Arnim

A busy first day

Started out the new year with a walk OUTSIDE. : )  It was 20 degrees and still darkish when I left.  The wind died down so it didn't even feel cold out.  I had my ice grippers on my shoes.  There was still snow around and even though it was still icy in places it was a crunchy ice so it wasn't that slippery.
I walked up and down the three hills behind my house, around one of the cemeteries and then just around town.
The sun even came out and I can't tell you how great it felt to feel the sun on my face.
The house on the left in the picture is where Lone Chicken and friends live.  I just passed them when I took the picture.
It was VERY quite out this morning.  I didn't see any one at all and only a handful of cars the whole time I was out.  But I sure enjoyed being able to walk outside again.  I think tomorrow will be an outside day too.  : )
I walked 6.2 miles.
The month of December I found 19 cents.
I added up the coins I found for the year of 2013 and they totaled $6.64 cents.  It was a very low year.  Don't find very many coins in farm country. : )

My bulletin board got finished and hung up today.  Put some duct tape around the edges of the painted blue homasote, Ken screwed some plastic white things in the wall so it would hold and then screwed the board up.  I've put it right next to my desk.  I ended up cleaning out my desk drawer and threw away a lot of junk.  That left not much to actually put up on the board but I love it and I'm sure it will be filled in no time at all. : )  Sorry the picture didn't come out so good but it was hard with the bright window right next to it.

I took the Christmas tree down and all decorations down and put away.  Ken took down the outside ones.  Usually I can't wait to get it all down and back to normal but this time I felt a little sad that it was all over with.   Christmas seemed extra special this year. : )

After that was done I cleaned things up and moved all the boxes that were in the foyer to the library in front of the picture window. Again the picture isn't so good because of the window.
Since it is winter I left the sled and the snowman out and put them in the foyer on a  table.

I had a goal this past year of reading 52 books this year - one a week.  I fell short of that and only red 40.  That's okay though, I will just try again.  This year I'm going to list the books I read on the side bar.

This first day of the new year has been a good one.  It's been a busy day as well and it has gone by pretty fast.

Hope your enjoying your first day of the new year too.

Happy New Year's Day! I really does sound as though you have had a very busy one! I'm so glad you had a chance to walk outdoors this morning, but that is really cold!

You started off the year with a walk! Outdoors! Now that's just as it should be. It made me smile to read that this Christmas past was an extra special one. $6 plus is a lot better than I would have thought!

So nice that you could get back outside to walk on this first day of the year. The photos look so pretty.
That's a nifty bulletin board Ken made for you.
Cute little snowman display you left in your entry and very fitting with all the snow you are getting.
I envy you for having your Christmas decor put away. That huge job awaits me still.

That was a nice outdoor walk - looks like it was a beautiful day. 40 books is a lot. I only got 33 - and that is a record for me. I am a copy cat and put my bulletin board up in about the same place by my computer. It does help with organization since now I have a place to put the random papers that I need to keep track of for a while. My bulletin board is quite a bit smaller than yours and not so pretty and colorful. Glad you will be listing your books - I am always looking for good reading suggestions. Enjoy the rest of the week!

Wow---do I love your weather up there. I need to live there since I love snow so much! ha

Reading even 40 books is awesome. You can shoot for 52 --but 40 is GOOD…

Have a great day.
Hugs,
Betsy
