Each morning when I open my eyes I say to myself;
I, not events, have the power to make me happy or unhappy today.
I can choose which it shall be. Yesterday is dead, tomorrow hasn’t arrived yet.
I have just one day, today, and I’m going to be happy in it.
~Groucho Marx

From rain to sun

It was a rainy morning and I didn't wake up till a little before 7:00 so got a late start walking.  It was warmer than yesterday at 42 degrees, but the rain made it feel colder and it was windy too.  The wind almost took my umbrella a couple of times.  I got pretty wet and ended up only walking 3.8 miles.  I have to buy another pair of rain pants.  After I wore mine the last time I threw them away.  The lining inside was coming apart in pieces.  The only thing that didn't get wet this morning was my head.  I am thankful for small things. : )

I walked around the cemeteries in town and the loop behind the ball park.  Didn't see any animals or people either.  Just cars.  It felt good walking in the house where it was dry and warm. : )

Sunrise: 7:35
Sunset: 6:28
We had planned on going to Happy Trails but the weather kept us from going.  The sun did come out to shine in a bright blue sky later in the afternoon but by then it was too late.  The temperature stayed at 42 all day.

I baked some chocolate chip cookies.  Ken is going to the train show down in Tomonium this weekend and Howard who owns the show is a friend of ours who loves my chocolate chip cookies so these will be for him.

When  my kitchen counter tops were made the part that they cut out for the sink was made into a cutting board.  I could have had one big one or two smaller ones but I chose the two smaller ones.  They just round the edges off and put little plastic feet on it.  They hadn't had time to do that last week and did it over the weekend.  We stopped by the shop today and picked them up.
There was a little stream along side the shop and these were swimming around there.  I think the white one is a duck but I think the others are some kind of geese.  Anyone know?
I started reading the next book for the book club.  This one is The House of Velvet and Glass by Katherine Howe.  Even though I just started it, so far I'm not that impressed but I'll give it some time.  Maybe it is just a slow starter for me.

Well that's my day so far. : )
Hope you're enjoying yours.
happyone : )

even the tiny, daily ones
in which we strive to be more like him.

  1. They all look like ducks to me. The photo is beautiful.

I think you have put me in the mood to make chocolate chip cookies.

  2. One of these days I have to try some of your chocolate chip cookies!

  3. Who doesn't love your chocolate chippers. They're the best.
I thought of you on my walk. Our different scenery. The inspiration I get from you.

  4. Everytime I read about you making them, I want to taste one of those chocolate chip cookies! I will bake some myself very soon!

Do you think the weather will be more of a factor with your walking this season since you have moved?

  5. You are the most singing in the rain kind of gal I know! Hope you get those new rain pants soon. Your weather sounds more like our weather than your former weather in the same state. Weird!

  6. Is there anything better than a morning walk?

  7. I am so glad you are finding your book club to be good. I did not find the group I attended to be to my liking. It is a good way to meet people however. Now all you need is a knitting group. :-)

  8. 3 miles isn't bad at all when walking in that heavy, windy, rain.
My vote is that all of these creatures are ducks. Some are just turning a little gray.Mary Jo

  9. I think you must be well known by many for your chocolate chip cookies. How sweet of you to think of others whenever you are baking them.
Neat idea for the spare counter pieces.
I hope the book picks up for you. I was in a book club several years ago and eventually dropped out because I didn't like having to read books I didn't really like. Although I also found several that I did like.

  10. So glad that you decided to carry on with your blog. The autumn colours in your area look beautiful.
Those look like farmyard geese to me.

  11. I think you are right about them being some kind of domestic goose, but I am not sure which ones. Nice of you to bake cookies for a friend (and nice of Ken to deliver them). Art
