Each morning when I open my eyes I say to myself;
I, not events, have the power to make me happy or unhappy today.
I can choose which it shall be. Yesterday is dead, tomorrow hasn’t arrived yet.
I have just one day, today, and I’m going to be happy in it.
~Groucho Marx

Boxes in the foyer

It was even warmer this morning at 60! degrees when I walked.  It rained last night but by morning it was dry though it was cloudy.
I went directly to the post office and mailed a Netflix and by then it was starting to lighten up a bit so I headed down the main road and started the farm loop.
The morning moon was still in the sky.  It was pretty with a pinkish tint to the sky.
Farmer George told me that this is soy beans growing in this field.  They were mostly green just a few days ago.  I guess it's time for them to be harvested now.
I walked around the school yard and stopped for a quick swing on the swings and then headed on over to one of the cemeteries and walked around there.
Then walked up and down the Main Street and then home.
I saw a deer run across the street and a couple of rabbits run into the corn fields.

The only person I saw was a women off in the distance walking a dog.

I walked 6.3 miles but forgot to write down how many steps it was.
Ken was in the driveway when I got home from walking.  He had gone out for a bagel and coffee and while there read in the news paper that there was an auction just over in WV and was excited because they had 6 church pews that were to be auctioned.  I have been wanting to get a pew to put along the wall in the foyer.
So after I had a quick breakfast off we went to the auction.  It was disappointing though because there was really just a bunch of junk and the pews were not good at all.  I was hoping for a nice oak one and these I think were made out of plywood and poorly made.  Oh well it was a nice ride out there.  We didn't stay very long which was just as well because it started raining not long after we left.

On the way home we stopped at a little country store and was pleasantly surprised when we got inside.  I picked up a little white planter pitcher for my collection and it was only $3.
I saw all these boxes with little things in them and thought that it looked so nice.
And I got the idea to do something like that in the foyer at home instead of putting a church pew there which we probably would never sit on anyway.  I had some boxes at home and knew I had enough stuff sitting around to put in them.
So when I got home, I went around getting all my boxes together, collected some things around the house and came up with this.
The little white pitcher I bought is sitting there in the middle by the Raggedy dolls.

So that's what I've been doing today.
It was fun and think of all the money I saved!!

Hope your Saturday is a fun day.

  1. What a great idea and it looks charming. I especially like your word happy, which is how I always think of your choice and outlook on life.

  2. That's cute! Lots of possibilities for decorating from season to season, too.

  3. What a great idea! That is a perfect welcome to your house!

I haven't seen the "morning moon" here. Today we have had rain since during the evening, and cloud cover definitely interferes with the moonlight.:-)

    Have a good Sunday!

  4. I like what you did with your box collection. Beautiful!

  5. What a cute idea and you wasted no time in implementing it. How great that you already had the boxes and how fun to find things to put in them without spending any money!
    I like your "happy" sign.

  6. Oh wow..... what a great idea!!! It looks Awesome!!

  7. I love this! What a cute idea! You can also change the display for the holidays if you want. Awesome!

  8. Very creative - you saw something that gave you a good idea, and you acted on it right away. Good for you!

  9. Your arrangement looks much neater than the one at the country store. I like the idea and especially like the "Happy" sign.
Glad you two are still having fun. Mary Jo
