Each morning when I open my eyes I say to myself;
I, not events, have the power to make me happy or unhappy today.
I can choose which it shall be. Yesterday is dead, tomorrow hasn’t arrived yet.
I have just one day, today, and I’m going to be happy in it.
~Groucho Marx

This is the day which the Lord hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.

A day at Happy Trails

I must have needed some extra sleep because I didn't wake up until 7:10 this morning.  I had planned on only going for a short walk this morning anyway because we wanted to get an early start heading up to Happy Trails.  So I just skipped my morning walk.  We left for HT at 8:00 - I did leave a little early and walked part of the way and Ken picked me up along the way when he left.

There was only a temporary roof with a tarp on one side of the roof on the upper shed because we never had time to finish the roof before we had to bring our stuff up there.  Well today we finished the whole roof.  Ken worked up on the roof while I handed up the metal roof sheets when needed.  The roof was finished by lunch time and we had a little picnic.
I made macaroni salad last night and we made a fire to cook hot dogs.
Getting the scraps of wood to make the fire we came across this big fat toad.
After we ate we burned some scrap wood and got a pretty nice fire going.  Then noticed that some of the flames were GREEN.  Can you see it there on the left?  That is exactly the color - I didn't do a thing to the picture.  Have you ever heard of a green flame before!?
After playing with the fire it was too late to start another big project and Ken was just puttering around so I decided it was time for me to head home.  It was so nice to be able to just walk back to the house.  So I had a nice little just about 3 mile walk. : )

I'm going outside to sit on the porch in a little while and stay out there until Ken comes home and we have some supper which will be BLT's.  The eggplant got pushed up another day until tomorrow.

Friday got here awfully fast this week. : )
Hope your day is bright and sunny.

  1. I really like today's quote.
Nope, never saw green fire before.
You sound like 2 kids gathering sticks, cooking hotdogs over open fire and "playing with a toad". MJ

  2. Green flame is new to me, too. How good to have the roof finished.

  3. Sounds like a very pleasant day. I didn't get to read any blogs yesterday but played catch-up today. So glad you like your book club. Have a happy weekend.

  4. I love hot dogs by the fire! Very tasty. And that toad looks like he enjoys him a feast or two on occasion lol.

  5. It sounds like you have had a productive day! Supper sounds tasty, too!

  6. You two are really enjoying your new home and retreat. I have seen green flames before.

Hello my friend.
