Walking is the perfect way of moving if you want to see into the life of things. It is the one way of freedom. If you go to a place on anything but your own feet you are taken there too fast, and miss a thousand delicate joys that were waiting for you by the wayside. Elizabeth von Arnim

Day 7 of building

We forgot to buy nails at Lowe's yesterday so we started the day going there first and then stopped at a Subway and got sandwiches to take with us for lunch.
Then to our land to continue building The Barn.  The nail gun was giving us LOTS of trouble today and it wasn't the cold this time!  The weather was beautiful - sunny and in the low 60's.  Great working weather.  Any way we had to hand nail most all of the sheathing and my hand is a bit sore this evening.  The nail gun is brand new so we will bring it back where we bought it and see about getting it fixed or a replacement.

Here Ken is carrying a sheet of plywood with a pretty handy little helper tool.
These two chairs are where we sit to take a break or have lunch.  We didn't have to sit in the truck today because it was so nice and warm out.
Here I am on the second floor enjoying the sunshine and taking a break from hammering some nails.  The picture is deceiving in that it doesn't show that I'm high up.
I didn't take a picture at very end of the day but this is pretty much what it looks like now.  Where the step ladder is will be the pedestrian door and like I said before the barn will have garage doors at either end.  We have closed the ends up with plywood for now just because we will be leaving the building unfinished.
After supper tonight we DID NOT go to Lowe's for more building material.  Tomorrow we will just finish up with what we have and pack up to go back home.

So this is our last night at the rental house. It has been nice but I am looking forward to seeing my house and sleeping in my own bed.

Some of you may be wondering how Accident got it's name.  When we ate at Annie's Kitchen this was on the place mat.
Why Our Town is Called "Accident"
About the year 1751, a grant of land was given to Mr. George Deakins by King George II of England in payment of a debt.  According to the terms, Mr. Deakins was to receive 600 acres of land anywhere in western Maryland he chose.  Mr. Deakins sent out two corps of engineers, each without knowledge of the other group, to survey the best land in this section that contained 600 acres.
After the survey, the engineers returned with their maps of the plots they had surveyed.  To their surprise, they discovered that they had surveyed a tract of land starting at the same tall Oak tree and returned to the starting point.  Mr. Deakins chose this plot of ground and had it patented "The Accident Tract."
Hence, the name of the town.

Hope you had a nice sunny day.

You both must be beat. You certainly have accomplished a lot! Fun story about the name...that Oak Tree must have been an impressive one.

Hi Karen,
I'm back to blogging and trying to catch up now. You have been busy! How exciting to see your first building taking shape. I was surprised to see the snow!
So glad to hear that your leg is feeling better.

The building is looking great - what a busy week. It's always so good to climb into your own bed after a spell away. How interesting to hear how Accident got it's name.
