Each morning when I open my eyes I say to myself;
I, not events, have the power to make me happy or unhappy today.
I can choose which it shall be. Yesterday is dead, tomorrow hasn’t arrived yet.
I have just one day, today, and I’m going to be happy in it.
~Groucho Marx

This is the day which the Lord hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.

A rainy day walk and a new haircut

I got to listen to raindrops on my umbrella throughout my entire walk.  It was a very rainy morning but the temperature was warm once again at 59 degrees.  At times the rain came down pretty heavy.  I wore my rain pants but not my rain slicker.  I would have been too warm so i just took the umbrella.  I walked around the lake.  Very few people out, in fact i only saw two people around the whole lake.  One was a runner and didn't even say good morning back to me.  The other woman i saw up by the parking lot at the main entrance.  By this time i walked three quarters around the lake.  I watched her get out of the car, walk a bit turn around for a few steps and then turn around again and started walking my way.   When she got to me she said, "I almost got back in the car but then decided to walk when i saw you walking.  I used to walk a few years ago and got out of the habit and decided to start again today."  We talked a bit longer and she asked me all the typical walking questions.  When we went our separate ways, she thanked me for stopping to talk and for the encouragement.  I really think i'll see her again!

I spotted the heron down by the waters edge among all the geese.  A couple of ducks were there too.  There is only one white duck and i always see her with her friend the  mallard duck.

It was nice walking and having the lake to myself.  A rainy morning makes a fine day for a walk.  At least once in a while. : )
I walked 6.2 miles.
Once home, i did a quick few things, ate breakfast and left the house at 9:30.  I had a hair appointment to get my hair dyed and this time i had Cheryl cut a few inches off.  There is not enough hair now to put on a ball cap and have a pony tail.  She cut it in a bob type layered look which goes to the end of my chin.  She did a great job and i like it a lot!!! : )

Late yesterday afternoon i just sat down in the chair near the Christmas tree and was going to read when half of the lights on the tree went out.  It was hard trying to find the ends and figuring which strands weren't working with all the ornaments and tinsel on it, but i finally managed to figure it all out.  I really didn't feel like taking the ornaments and tinsel off to replace the lights and was thinking that maybe the tree just wouldn't have all the lights on this year.  Just then Ken came home and saved the day.  He said it was probably the fuses.  We had some extra fuses that came with the lights, so he replaced them and the lights are once again shining brightly. : )

I have some things to do around the house yet for today, but then I'm hoping to get some reading in.
We are planning to go out this evening to do some errands when Ken comes home.  One will be to get some more ice cream.  We've run out of it once again.  I'm hoping for some chocolate chip mint this time!

Hope your day has been a good one so far and you found lots of reasons to smile.
Happyone : )
The quote today is for you Cheryl. : )
Life is an endless struggle
full of frustrations and challenges,
but eventually you find a hair stylist you like.

  1. Sigh. I wish the quote were for me. Ha! Now wait just a minute...you have your hair done...a bob...you like...you don't show us?! Shocked. I am simply shocked.

  2. I'm with Vee, I would love to see a picture of your new do!

Last year that happened to my tree. It was a very frustrating event. I finally gave up, took a few ornaments off and added another string of light on top of the dead ones. I thought it looked funny but no one else seemed to notice....or if they did, they did not mention it!

  3. I wish we could bet Ken over to our house to work his magic on the lights of our tree. Trying to find burned out lights is a bigger pain than walking in the rain.

  4. I see you agree that rain walks can be fun. You might like my post today since you sound like a spread the sunshine kind of gal and that's what I posted about.

  5. You should really have posted a picture of your New Do since you mentioned it. I'm surprised Cheryl didn't take a picture and post it. I thought about you walking when I saw how hard it was raining here this morning. I think the warm weather has left us for awhile. Hope the snow stays away too.

  6. We have one of those magic guns to fix light strands, but husband is too impatient to use it. He throws them out and just buys new ones.

Cheryl said you were coming by today. Glad you love the haircut!

  7. I'm so glad you love your hair. It was fun cutting a new style and seeing the smile on your face.

I went to the store and bought one of those guns that figure out the problem with your lights. Then I read the instructions. Way, way too complicated. I fooled around with the bulbs and got one strand to work. I turned the tree around to hide the part I couldn't fix. You'd never know it's out! I decorated the tree and now I'm done. Yay!

Did you wind up running errands tonight? We're having quite a storm now, huh?

  8. Oh--I'm sure I'd love your haircut... Show us a picture please. I love shorter hair on women, especiallly old ones like ME... ha

We have lights out on our tree --and I'll bet it's a fuse... Thanks for the idea.

  9. She tells us she gets a new hair cut... And doesn't show us a picture! Of all the nerve!!!!!!! -gigggles- How dare, dare, dare you! Come on Girl.... We need pictures. :-)

I'm sure it's great and I want to SEE it! :-)

The tree is ready, the candles alight:
Rejoice and be glad, all children tonight!"

  10. And I'm so happy that gal talked to you. And you, to her. Hope you do see her again. And say how happy you are, to see her. But of course, I don't have to remind you to do that.

The tree is ready, the candles alight:
Rejoice and be glad, all children tonight!"

  11. You are truly an inspiration to others. I bet seeing you walking was all the lady needed to start walking again.

I'm so happy Ken was able to get your Christmas lights working again. :)

I'd love to see a photo of your new hair-do.

Enjoy your yummy chocolate chip mint ice cream, my friend and have a great day!
