Each morning when I open my eyes I say to myself;
I, not events, have the power to make me happy or unhappy today.
I can choose which it shall be. Yesterday is dead, tomorrow hasn’t arrived yet.
I have just one day, today, and I’m going to be happy in it.

Rita's and My friend Gertie

Delicious dinner last night at Red Lobster.  I had the meal where you get to pick two of your favorites.  I picked Garlic Shrimp Scampi and Stuffed Flounder.  A salad and baked potato went with it.  I also had one of the biscuits.  I didn't finish everything but made a good try.
Sorry Vee, no pictures.

I must have needed some extra sleep last night because I didn't wake up until 7:30 (a hour and half later than usual).  By the time I left on my walk the sun was already up and shining brightly.  It was cooler than yesterday and there was quite a breeze but the weather was still gorgeous.  I walked along the streets and paths and made my way over to Rita's which I now know is 3.4 miles from my house.
Too bad it was too early for it to be open.  I didn't have any money anyway so it really didn't matter.  I did find two quarters in the parking lot though.

Gertie (89), who I met walking around her neighborhood and walks a couple miles every day and I've mentioned before, lives about a mile before I got to Rita's.  I don't walk this way very often but I hadn't seen Gertie in months and was getting worried about her.  I didn't know her last name or telephone number so I couldn't call her either.  I knew which house was hers and did stop by one afternoon but she wasn't home.  Lately I've seen a strange car in her driveway and was thinking maybe something happened to her and someone else was living there now.  I usually pass by too early to stop at the house but today I was late and on the way home stopped and rang the bell.  I am so glad I did because it was Gertie who answered the door.  She was so happy to see me and asked me to come in.  I told her I just stopped by to see if she was okay.  She insisted on me coming in so I did and stayed about 15 minutes.  I am happy and relieved that everything is just fine with her.  She as been walking a little latter than usual and we just haven't run into each other.  We had such a nice chat and she gave me a big hug and told me how nice it was that I checked in on her.  We exchanged last names and telephone numbers so I will be able call to check on her now. I told her to call me if I can ever do anything for her.  She really is a special lady and I'm so glad we met and are friends.  :-)
I continued my walk and headed back home the with a happy heart.
Lots of daffodils blooming now all over the place.  I saw some forsythia in bloom as well.  It was nice to see a group of kids out with garbage bags picking up the litter down by the water over by the school.
Didn't see any wild life except for birds and squirrels.
I walked 7 miles.
Sunrise 7:13
Sunset 7:18

Ken is out this morning but we will meet up later after lunch.  Don't know what the rest of the day has in store for me, so I will just have to see what turns up.
Make your Saturday a good one.
Happyone :-)

  1. How good to know that Gertie is doing well and still able to take her walks. I enjoyed reading about how happy she was to see you and that you now have her phone # and can keep tabs on her. It sure is heartwarming to know that there are people like you out there, Karen.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend.

  4. What a sweetheart you are to check on Gertie. She received you just like an angel, which I am sure is how she thinks of you. How wonderful that you now have names and numbers. Don't worry, the description was almost as good as the pics might have been. ;>

  5. Sleeping in makes one rested and energized, hope you felt that way today. You must stay in touch with good friends, they are your greatest treasure. Good to exchange numbers. Next time you're headed her way, just give a quick call, let her know you'll be around or set up a walk date. Hope the remainder of your Saturday was awesome.

  6. I had lunch at the Red Lobster last week and had the garlic shrimp scampi and bay scallops. I think it was one of the best meals I have had there. I'm not a big fan of chain restaurants. The food is usually to salty for me.

That was very sweet and thoughtful to check on Ms. Bertie. When I'm 89 I hope someone checks on me LOL!!! I don't expect to see that age though.

You have such a lovely place to walk. I am so envious!

Have a nice evening and a wonderful tomorrow. Don't forget to check out the moon tonight.

  7. So nice of you to check in on your new friend.
I am glad she is ok.
I love Red Lobster but I am allergic to garlic. Which means no biscuits or shimp scampi. Which I do dearly love. Have a great week!
