Walking is the perfect way of moving if you want to see into the life of things. It is the one way of freedom. If you go to a place on anything but your own feet you are taken there too fast, and miss a thousand delicate joys that were waiting for you by the wayside. Elizabeth von Arnim

Thankful challenge and a nice hunk of change x 2.

Quite chilly out there this morning with some patches of light frost around on my walk but there was no wind and it was bright (when the sun finally rose) and crisp.  I stayed warm in layers.  Not so many people out around the lake today, but saw the regulars who are always out.  There are people I see all the time and have seen them since I started walking here.  Others I see for a few months, then don't see for months and then they are back out again.  Still others I see for a while, and then never see them again.
The only wildlife I saw today were the geese, one deer and a couple of cardinals.   Maybe the others were waiting for it to warm up a bit.
This is a little trail off the lake path that goes up and down a little hill and comes out a little way farther along the path.  It's only about 1/4 of a mile but a nice little diversion and it's nice to walk in the leaves.
Work continues on the new pier here.
I took a picture of the lake with a mist over it and the sun coming up and posted it on my photo blog.  Click HERE if you care to see it.
I left about 15 minutes later than usual because I just didn't feel like getting out of bed this morning which is so not like me.  I think my body has adjusted to the time change a week early. :-)
Once I was up and walking all was as it should be.

It is time to retire my current pair of walking shoes as they are pretty much shot now.  Ken even had patched the inside of them up with duct tape!  I usually buy two pair at a time so I have another nice new pair in the closet.  Tomorrow will be their first day of walking.
My walk this morning was almost 7 miles at 6.9.
A pretty good month for finding coins - 1 quarter, 5 dimes, 5 nickels, and 19 pennies for a grand total of $1.19.

Ken had another day at the train show yesterday and did quite well selling his things.  He got home around 6 and we decided to walk over to the Chinese restaurant across the street in the little shopping center.  Other times we've just had take away and ate it at home, but this time decided to eat there.  (I ate lunch there last week with Cheryl and it was nice.) Things just didn't seem to go our way right from the start.  The seats had crumbs all over them that we had to wipe off.  Usually you get ice water in a glass and they replenish it as needed.  Our water came in plastic glasses with no ice.  We didn't get any tea.  I ordered sweet and sour chicken and the chicken just didn't taste right and I couldn't eat it. (Ken tasted it and he agreed.) When the server came by I told him the chicken tasted funny and I couldn't eat it.  Those of you who know me, know that I hardly ever complain about anything. He asked if I wanted to order anything else and I said no I would just have some of Ken's Chicken Hunan Style.  We always bring home leftovers so we both did have enough to eat.  Anyway the whole experience was not so pleasant. The topper was that no one ever apologized and we had to pay for the chicken that tasted bad.  I don't think we will be going there again any time soon!  And that's my rant!

Today I turned on the heat.  Just couldn't wait any longer.  Every year I always try to see how long I can go before turning it on.  I don't know why I do that but reading other blogs I see that a lot of us do that. Anyway, it nice to be warm. :-)

After doing some things around the house I realized that I was hungry and hadn't had breakfast and it was 10:20 already.  So I took a break and made my self some French toast on homemade bread.  Yummy!  It was worth waiting for.

I walked over to the Giant this afternoon to buy some of the ingredients for a cheese cake that I will be making tomorrow. The amount came to $7.06 and I handed her a $10 bill and a dime.  Wasn't I surprised to see that my change was $1003.04.  You can see from the picture what she did.  We had a good laugh over it.

Giving Thanks
I have joined the Giving Thanks challenge over at South Breeze Farm.
Each day of November I will write something that I am thankful for.
I will write it in my post and also keep
a running list on the top left of the sidebar.
If you would like to participate, click on the photo on top of sidebar.

November 1 - Today I am thankful that I can just turn on the heat with a flick of a switch and can make my home nice and warm.

Wow! Who have thought $10 could be such a wonderful investment!

I'm thankful for my friends and every day I get to open my eyes!

Guess a new pier is good, but that pic is scary. Whenever I see a bulldozer, by beautiful nature, I get worried.

-chuckle- You had to turn the heat on. I used to do that wait-as-long-as-possible too. But ya' know, we're just gettin' too old, to stick it out, as long as we used to. :-) But I do turn it down, as soon as the sun warms the side of the house we "live" in. :-) So I'm going to feel that I'm still a wee bit careful, by doing that. ,-)))

Yes, isn't it funny/cute, the little "games" we play, in our housekeeping. :-)

Gentle hugs...

I smiled a lot through this post. I like to play the wait to turn the heat on game too :). I also play it with the A/C in the spring.
The cashier's error was cause for another smile and your quote about the cow drinking milk was smile worthy too. So, thank you HappyOne, for putting a smile on my face this evening.
I wouldn't have been smiling at the Chinese restaurant as that didn't sound like a pleasant experience. :(

A lovely leaf strewn trail for your morning walk. I agree with the thing you're thankful for!

Yes, heat is always good. One dollar and nineteen cents a month adds up over a year... Ugh about the chicken with no apology and you had to pay for it. I'd be certain to tell everyone about that experience. Very bad form on their part. Hope that your new shoes break in easily. Thanks for joining Leah on the Giving Thanks Challenge. I hope lots of us will.

That's a beautiful picture of the leaves. They are not quite falling like that here, but it won't be long.

Enjoy the fall. I love this time of year.

Oh, I found you through Cheryl.
