Walking is the perfect way of moving if you want to see into the life of things. It is the one way of freedom. If you go to a place on anything but your own feet you are taken there too fast, and miss a thousand delicate joys that were waiting for you by the wayside. Elizabeth von Arnim

Robins in Winter?

Good Morning. Today I walked along one of the neighborhood paths and then walked along the streets. No particular walk in mind, I just walked where ever the spirit moved me. I ended up walking 6.6 miles. A few people out walking but not very many. It seem so cold this morning and I was even a bit on the warm side. I stopped to watch a squirrel build her nest in the crook of this tree.

She would collect a bunch of leaves off the ground and then scurry up the tree and put the leaves in just so and then back for more leaves. I tried to get a picture of her but they just didn't come out. I'm not a big fan of squirrels around the yard but they are fun to watch in the woods.
I was so surprised to see a whole flock of Robins this morning. So strange for in the middle of winter around here. Robins usually mean that spring is near. This was just one tree where they were.
Picture isn't very good but if you enlarge
it you can see that they are Robins. I took a close up of one on the ground.
Again not a very good picture. Don't you think it strange to see Robins this time of year?

A young woman Casey, who is in my knitting group has learned how to spin yarn this past year. Here is some of the yarn that she has spun. She is knitting a pair of mittens with it. I think the yarn is beautiful and her spinning is perfect!!Thanks for all the comments on my hair. Ken was surprised and he does like it. :-) Though we both think it could be a bit darker. It's lighter than it looks in the picture. Today in the light it looks like a light redish brown.

It was a stay at home day for me. The house smelled good today. I baked dill bread to go along with the Smashed Potato Soup which I made in the slow cooker.
Here's supper.

I worked on a couple of crossword puzzles from the book I bought the other night. It says you should be able to do one in ten minutes. Not so for me.
I also did a little reading and hope to knit another pair of baby slippers for Bonnie's project later.

Hope your Thursday was a good one.
Happyone :-)
It’s not how much we have, but how much we enjoy that makes happiness.

I used to think robins migrated South for the winter. Evidently they do only when the ground is frozen, SUPPOSEDLY! I hope they're fast fly-ers! As I write it's snowing again.

Now that sounds good, smashed potato soup and dill bread.
I saw a robin the other day too! It is strange to see them in winter here also. Hummm. I went walking tonight with a friend that likes to walk a night also.. fun.

Over here in the UK we think of the Robin as a winter bird that we see in the snow and cold weather. I think our robins are a little different and smaller than your robins. We do see them all year round but especially in winter.
The soup looks tasty too.

It would be nice if the robins meant spring was here, but I'm afraid it's not so. We're still struggling to get temperatures into double digits! Smashed Potato soup would sure hit the spot today.
By the way, I like your hair as shown in the post below.

We have had a few robins and bluebirds around our area in winters past but I have not seen any robins thus far this winter.

Your soup and bread look mighty yummy; perfect fare for a cold night.

By the way, I like your new hair color. It is perfect with your skin tone. Without personally knowing you, it looks like it is your natural color. Very nice!
