Each morning when I open my eyes I say to myself;
I, not events, have the power to make me happy or unhappy today.
I can choose which it shall be. Yesterday is dead, tomorrow hasn’t arrived yet.
I have just one day, today, and I’m going to be happy in it.
~Groucho Marx

This is the day which the Lord hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.
Psalm 118:24

When I got back

from my walk this morning Ken had already left to spend the day with friends. I made myself some French toast for breakfast and was eating when my phone rang. It was Ken and he told me to look out the back window and I saw the FJ coming up the street. His day out was canceled so he was stuck with me for the day. :-)

Today is our grandson Antonio's birthday - 18 years old - and we stopped by the house to say Happy Birthday and to give him his present.

We made our usual Saturday stop at the library to drop off books, DVD's, CD's and magazines and picked up a new supply. I had a book on hold that I picked up and a couple more books, a magazine and a DVD. I always feel so good coming out of the library with my library bag filled with good things. We are so lucky to have such wonderful libraries in the county where I live. One of the first things we do when we move is to check out the nearest library.
I've always loved libraries. I remember when I was a little girl walking up town to the library for my books. Back then you had to write your name on a card and then have the librarian stamp a card with the due date on it and would then slip the card in the pocket of the book. I remember picking out books in the kids section and if I wandered out from there the librarian, who knew my name, would remind me that I could only get books out of the children's section. I was never without a book and would always be reading at least one! And I'm still that way to this day. :-) I LOVE having a whole lot of books lined up!!

We made a few more stops, had a sandwich for lunch at PotBelly's and didn't get home till late afternoon. Looked over and read some of those new library items and then Ken made us nachos for supper.

We got a new series (new for us) from Netlix called Cadfael. Its about Brother Cadfael, an English monk in the 12th century who is an amateur sleuth. This first one was called The Leper of St. Giles. I thought it was pretty good but Ken wasn't that crazy about. I had ice cream again for my snack and did a little knitting.

Hope all is well in your part of the world and your day was sunny.
Happyone :-)

  1. He was not STUCK with you!! Or he would have not called to announce his return!
Happy Birthday to your grand son!
I love Cadfael -- enjoyed watching it on TV. (Wasn't that Derek Jacobi? (or the man who played the Chorus in Henry V?))
Went to PA to see my mom today -- had a lovely time.

  2. Happy Birthday to Antonio. It sounds like even though Ken had a change of plans the two of you had an enjoyable day.

    Happy Mother's Day to you.

  3. Your days and time spent with Ken always sound delightful. Happy Birthday to Antonio!
