Each morning when I open my eyes I say to myself;
I, not events, have the power to make me happy or unhappy today.
I can choose which it shall be. Yesterday is dead, tomorrow hasn’t arrived yet.
I have just one day, today, and I’m going to be happy in it.
~Groucho Marx

This is the day which the Lord hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.

A cool but sunny

morning as I walked my usual 6 miles around the lake. All the usual wildlife was about.

It was a Meals on Wheels day and I only had 6 people today. At Mrs P's apartment building for the past few months there has been some difficulty with us visitors getting in the building. The box where you punch the code in to get in the building hasn't been working right. I usually end up just calling her and then she would unlock the outside door so I could get in the building to get to her door. Well today, there was a new door, a new lock and a new code box and everything worked!! :-) I brought her some chocolate chip cookies today that I baked because she says that she doesn't get enough sweets with her MOW meals. The meals are all low sugar. It was so nice to see her smile and eyes light up when I gave her the cookies. :-)
One of my other ladies Mrs M who I have been delivering meals to for years has decided not to get MOW delivered anymore because her niece is taking care of her so today was her last day. She hugged me and said she would miss me as I was her favorite. It was enough to bring tears to my eyes. I told her I would be back to visit her once in a while even if she doesn't get Meals anymore.

Once I got back home, I had some lunch, was on the computer for a bit, did my exercise DVD, ironed, baked bread and then did a little knitting. I knitted a white square for the sample afghan I've been working on for a couple of years now. Since there is a lot of counting to do, I have to concentrate on it so can't watch television while I'm knitting.

I knitted on the ripple afghan while watching another episode of The House of Eliott in the evening. That has an easy pattern to follow so it's a good thing to work on while watching television.

Not much left of this Monday and I think I'll go and read until it's bedtime.
I hope this day was a happy one for you.
Happyone :-)
May is God's apology for January!

  1. Awww, that's sweet to know that relationships are built even in those few minutes of delivering a meal. So many older people are isolated and feel as if there's no one out there for them. And knowing you, you'll keep that promise. Won't she be surprised?

  2. Love that adage about May!!

  3. That is such wonderful work you are doing with MOW. I imagine it is a bright spot in the day of many people especially when you come with homemade cookies.

  4. I think it's wonderful that you help with Meals on Wheels and that you have such a good relationship with the people you serve.

Hello my friend.
