Each morning when I open my eyes I say to myself;
I, not events, have the power to make me happy or unhappy today.
I can choose which it shall be. Yesterday is dead, tomorrow hasn’t arrived yet.
I have just one day, today, and I’m going to be happy in it.
~Groucho Marx

This is the day which the Lord hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.
Psalm 118:24

Road work, afghans and grandkids

Yesterday and today workers have been getting the road ready for repaving along the side of my house. They've been scraping, digging and filling and it has been very noisy between all the equipment and trucks, and I am getting sick of hearing that back up truck noise. Beep Beep Beep!!!! I do like watching them work though and have spent some time looking out of the window. I took these pictures out of the windows in my kitchen. It will be great when we have a nice new road.
I have started another ripple afghan. I usually knit them using acrylic yarn but this time I am using cotton yarn. I will knit all the two row stripes with an off white color and all the 12 row stripes with a multicolor blue and off white color. I buy the cotton yarn in these cone shapes which are yarn for knitting machines. The cones of yarn are a lot cheaper. I think I'll keep this one for myself because I want to see how it turns out since this is the first time with this yarn. I'll post another picture when I have more done so you can see the stripes of the colors better.

I made some more weave-it squares too.
It's a great way to use up left over yarn from other projects. I'm making this weave-it afghan for a friend. I won't mention who because she reads this blog. :-) Yesterday I said that there are 303 squares that go into an afghan - my mistake there are actually 404 (19 x 16).
The 303 number is how many stitches that I cast on for the ripple afghan pictured above.

We took our two oldest grandkids, Antonio (17) and Taryn (15) out tonight for pizza at Sazzios. After that we all went on to Rita's for ice cream. They are super kids and we always enjoy time spent with them. :-)

I baked some chocolate chip cookies this afternoon to give to my grandkids. I did keep a dozen or so here for me too - and I only ate ONE while baking them. I just can't resist one warm cookie right out of the oven!

The only work I got done today was ironing Ken's work shirts.

I didn't do any reading during the day so I think I'll do that now until bedtime.

Hope you had a fun Wednesday too.
Happyone :-)

  1. Your Afghan looks so pretty. I like those colors, always liked off white/ivory...Can't wait to see it when it's finished...

    Have a good weekend!

  2. That afghan has wonderful colors! I'll be eager to know what you think of it done in the cotton. Sounds good for spring and summer nights.

  3. I'm amazed at all the projects you work on and actually complete. And you still have time to bake chocolate chip cookies!

  4. The afghan is beautiful! I notice you use connected needles. I've never thought of doing that. Your date with the grand kids sounds like it was super.

  5. Hey Ms. Creative. I like your little changes to your template. I love how you do so many different things with your time. I'm sure I'd be watching the road being paved. Is this the final pave? They waited till all our building was done before they did that.

    Pizza and Rita's. Yum!

  6. MmMmmm... I adore chocolate chip cookies... it's been sometime since I have eaten freshly baked ones!

  7. I really like the colors in your new afghan. I look forward to seeing it when it is finished.

Sounds like you had a great time with your grandkids. I admire your willpower at just eating one warm cookie.

Hope you enjoyed your reading time. I'm off to do some of that now myself.

  8. I have been stumbling around in blog land tonight, and came across your lovely afghan.I must see the finished project.
